Benjamin Eye Institute, West Hollywood CA

The Benjamin Eye Institute is an in-network provider through my PPO, I verified it on UnitedHealthcare's website before scheduling my appointment in November.

When I walked into the appointment after sitting down at the retinal scanner I asked, is this extra? The medical assistant said no, I said great, please let me know if something is extra and she said of course.

The Dr.was in for only a few minutes and then told me that I should consider artificial tear ducts due to my eyes being dry and laser to clean up the old veins that had been created to get oxygen from too much contact lens wearing in my past.

He then referred someone into the room to discuss a laser option for $5,000 dollars to get rid of the old no longer used veins-of course not covered by insurance. I said not right now, but thank you.

Upon checking out at the appointment I ended up with $652 as the amount due. I literally couldn't afford the whole amount, so the receptionist allowed me to pay $152.91 of the balance and she said when can you pay the remainder.

My office co-pay is $60. How does an in-network provider cost a patient for a contact and eye exam to the amount of $592? There's no contact lenses, frames, or lenses in that amount.

On December 21, I went to LensCrafters with my VSP and walked out with an eye exam, AVP Progressive Lenses w/Transitions, and a 6-month supply of multi-focal for Astigmatism contact lenses for a total of $730.

I feel the Benjamin Eye Institute was just trying to sell me expenses services and see no value in the appointment I had.

Insurance information was not checked prior to appointment, causing a lot of issues because the front staff and billing manager did not understand the type of BCBS plan. The Billing Manager canceled our appointment in Dec because of it. Being that I am experienced in this field, I explained to all the ladies including the Billing Manager the type of plan and that it’s not an HMO plan. The next day I had a BCBS representative call the office to educate/verify what I explained. We left the office very upset and uncared for.
The doctor heard the incident and didn’t seem to care. We had to schedule another appointment three weeks later causing my daughter take off another day.
This practice makes you feel like another number. On a positive note, the scheduling coordinator was very caring and understanding.

Everyone is so nice and welcoming. All my questions are answered and information about my eyes are forthcoming.

Dr Benjamin and his staff, including Lana, were amazing! I went to them for an emergency and the 5.0 rating is right on the spot. I didn’t have to wait much and he explained everything very clearly. His office gives his confidence. Thank you much!

Dr. Benjamin is not only extremely compitent, but has an excellent bedside manner. I highly recommend him and his team! By the way, I am an airline pilot and as one would imagine, my eyes are an essential part of my job. I salute this clinic!

I had cataract surgery (multifocal lens in one eye) through Kaiser and although the surgery was successful, I was experiencing extreme visual imbalance that was negatively impacting my life. Kaiser asked me to wait it out (3 months!), but I was truly going out of my mind so, based on the great things I’d heard, I scheduled a consult with Dr. Benjamin. Never did I expect to leave his office with GREATLY improved vision, but that’s exactly what happened. Dr. Benjamin spent a generous amount of time with me, clearly explaining why I was experiencing the visual disparity. He assured me it could be corrected by treating the other eye, a surgery Kaiser wishes to postpone. In the meantime, he had a brilliant idea. He suggested that a non-prescription colored contact lens (!?) might improve the refractive imbalance so we gave it a try. It was a stroke of genius! My vision imbalance improved instantly. He suggested that I be fitted for a multifocal contact at my next optometry appointment with the hope that it might give me even greater relief until the next lens replacement surgery. Absolute home run. I could not have been happier with this consultation. I found Dr. Benjamin to be a wonderful, caring and an extremely good communicator. I will still need that second surgery, but at least I can function until then, thanks to Dr. Benjamin.

Dr. Benjamin and his staff are amazing! They were thorough with their explanations and very kind while talking with my son and I. Dr Benjamin has an excellent demeanor, and a great sense of humor which makes the whole atmosphere relaxed and enjoyable.

He helped me to educate and understand my eye condition better through videos that explain my eye condition. This was a great option for me as I am a visual learner.
Dr. Benjamin has a special kind and compassionate way to give you hope for your condition. He has a state of the art medical equipment that will allow to notice any change in your eye from time to time. He also has a great collaborative, knowledgeable, kind, and friendly team as well, they speak different languages A+.
The office environment is welcoming, nice, and clean. His whole staff is helpful, friendly, and available for questions.

Very nice office, very professional staff,
But you have to wait at least an hour, and also should pass all tests, even if its not necessarily for you, but for your insurance.

Dr. Benjamin is a great professional, he helped my mom to properly diagnose her course before her visit to him she was suffering from an "unknown eye disease" for several years.
