Nice hike or mountain bike climb and amazing ride back down the hill. If you are mountain biking you can park off Sunset Drive just off Via Rancho Parkway and there is a trail that goes under the 15 freeway. Steep and technical climb that works it’s way up the east and the north side of the hill. From the top depending on visibility you can see the ocean at Encinitas. If is really clear you may be able to see the Mexican Coronado islands.

Nice parking lot at the trailhead, but no restrooms. The trail starts as a paved sidewalk along and under the freeway and has the occasional shaded picnic table after you pass the bridge. If warm weather, get an early start. Beautiful view of Mt Woodson, Iron Mountain, Black Mountain and Lake Hodges. Look for the ammo boxes at the peak to sign the notebook.

Great hike, well marked and a slow ascent to the summit. Small trailhead parking lot, but plenty of options along the street or at the nearby park.

Highly recommended! Some steep parts. Some very rocky parts. Wear good, supportive shoes/boots.

Rocky trail. Summit has a nice view. Wear good shoes and watch your step when the climbing starts. Might not be suitable for the out of shape or younger children. The other trails around the lake are nice and flat for a stroll however.

Awesome hike in the middle of civilization. Breathtaking views of the Escondido area and the beautiful Lake Hodges.

In hot weather, the climb is moderately difficult due to lack of shade for most of the trail. I would recommend that people carry water with them. The trail is well maintained and less crowded.
