Excellent food! The unagi pizza looked & sounded great from all the reviews and this one didn't disappoint. It was super easy to split half a pizza & half a pasta dish (we had the cod roe pasta). I would definitely come back again for squid ink pasta & given soba is generally served cold - I am curious if the roe cold pasta one is inspired by soba. I thought the portions were good for what we got & the quality of the food.

I absolutely love Japanese comfort food. And Bistro Kaz does it right.

You need to get the corn soup. They make it from scratch. I’m not sure how they do it, but they are able to stuff corn aroma, essence, and punch into it.

The cold cod roe angel hair pasta is soothing with a touch of decadence with the roe and ikura.

Comfort food is meant to be heavy, but Bistro Kaz is able to thread the needle. You leave with a warm, full belly without feeling like you’ve eaten a ton of bricks.

One of our to go Japanese Italian fusion restaurant in town. They serve excellent Doria (Chicken, Curry and Seafood are available) It’s also excellent for the value of you visit for lunch, the lunch combo comes with a soup, salad and a drink. Though, they usually are closed on Tuesday.

My cousin and I were here last Friday. We weren't sure about having Italian- Japanese infused food but I got to say it was delicious. I'd never had a lobster pizza before and the beef Bolognese was better here than most straight Italian places. For dessert I had the Black Sesame Pie (?). Unique and very good. And the service the was good too. We will be back.

The waiter is very rude, she mentioned many times before we sit down, they are a small restaurant and we may not feel conformable eating here, which is ridiculous to hear. And she double checked that if we still want to eat here after all she said, and we decide to leave. No smile and I felt like I am not welcomed to eat here at all!

Part of me doesn't want to review this place because it's such a hidden gem and I want it to stay hidden, but it's too nice of a place to not tell everyone! It's my favorite place to get Japanese Italian food. I haven't had a pasta dish that disappointed me, and my brother loves the demi glace Hamburg steak. Everything just tastes so fresh and the staff is always so friendly.

New favorite in all of SD. We got the Uni spread (comes with 4 large pieces of bread), unagi pizza, fries, pumpkin soup, deep fried brie cheese balls. Best menu ever with actual new and innovative dishes and also some old authentic faves that never get old. Everything I got here was delicious and worth it. Going back to try more soon. Our server Meg was excellent and sweet. Kudos to the service and the chef!
Also, Google got their times wrong and apparently they can't change it, but they close at 9, not 10.

A unique dining place. Italian restaurant with a Japanese touch. I had the salmon roe pasta and it was great, corn soup is delicious too. They have lunch combo menu even on weekend which is nice. The combo includes a salad, a soup and a entree. Portion is generous. They also have a la carte menu.

An old and small restaurant, but they make good meal. I had crab meat scallop spaghetti, and it was really good and fresh. Only one thing needs to improve: the waiter may can have a small smiling while he serves non-Japanese customers.

I wanted to really love this place. I love when restaurants can pull off great fusions between cultures but they didn't quite make it for me here.

We got the Miso marinated salmon belly, tuna tomato mozzarella spicy penne arrabbiata, and the seafood doria. The seafood doria was great! The other two did not stand out to me. I love salmon belly when cooked right. This one has good flavor but a little too fatty and could have been crispier. The arrabbiata wasn't that good nor was spicy. The tuna tasted very salty like it came from a can and overpowered the dish.

I think they have potential, but maybe should reduce the menu and just list their best options so you don't end up selecting something that's just so-so.

FOOD & DRINKS
I have been here twice on two consecutive days. That should say everything, right? After the first visit I was so eager to try out more. The execution of the food was amazing, well seasoned and not skimping on fresh ingredients. The seafood doria was awesome. The lobster pizza though was a bit of a disappointment. Not that it didn’t taste good, you just either couldn’t taste the lobster because there was so much cheese on it or had a hard time to even find pieces of lobster. I would reimagine this dish to make the lobster shine more! The omelet too could get more of a Japanese treatment and be more silky and smooth. It would still go well with the Italian meat sauce.

SERVICE
Lovely service.

ATMOSPHERE
Has a bit of a small European bistro flair tucked between some bigger restaurants.

RATING
If I want to eat very good Italian food with a touch of Japanese finish, this is the place to come to. Highly recommended!

This place is a gem. They are not offering any flashy dishes but simply good quality food with great value!
The place has a great vibe! The decoration is tasteful, simple and classic. The moment you walk in, you will smell coffee aroma and the scent of sweet cream. I love it.

Not even worth one star. All Services are tarriable bad. Seated for 10 minutes and no one came over even call for waitress. All waitresses ingnor our table. Other tables are coming late but all got services. Those waitresses don't even care the business. We will never ever go to this restaurant and will let all our friends knows how torriabl service is.

Love the Japanese-Italian fusion kind of dish!
I especially like the Unagi (eel) pizza.
The pasta is not bad too!
