Blind Butcher reviews
17Visited from DC. 5 Stars! Entire staff was very nice and friendly. Would come again. MUFC 8)
Every time I dine here it feels like an episode of the twilight zone. Apparently it’s not necessary to be kind to your guests? The 4th time I (attempted to) dine here we walked in and were seated, waited 30 minutes for service (which never came). So after the server walked by our table for the 5th or 6th time, I stood up and told him we were leaving. His response? A snarky “great, I need the table. ” So I guess it’s acceptable to ignore a table until they leave here too. Why do I keep going back? Idk I guess I like salty steaks and salty waiters. Real talk, this was a wholly embarrassing experience for us. The rest of the (majority straight white) guests around us seemed to be getting great service, btw. I worked in the industry for 10+ years and I’m still shook by this. Skip this place, there are plenty of other amazing options in the Castro.
Very decent food, good service
Food alone was not phenomenal, but the ambiance and service was very good so we land at a 4.5/5
Maybe we caught them on an off night, but we had a subpar experience at Blind Butcher. (1) We had to wait for almost 10 mins to even get seated despite having a reservation. The waiters and bartenders knew we were there but no one made eye contact until I walked in and checked. (2) "sorry we don't have any bubbles tonight" - on a Friday night! It was a celebration and was a bummer they didn't have any bubbles, despite being listed on the menu, (3) ordered cocktails arrived way later than the appetizers, (4) ordered entrees and after 20 mins waiter came back and asked to remind him what the entrees were! Maybe he forgot to put it in, we had to wait for another 20 mins for our entree. They comped one round of wine for the delay but the experience was already ruined.
Food was great though! And the ambience was interesting, although the music was a little too loud for a dinner venue.
It felt like an off night for them. Waiters seemed confused or lost. It felt as if someone crucial in their staff had just quite or didn't show up and they were making it work. Regardless, not a good experience especially when paying close to $100 per head for a dinner.
The food was excellent, as was the service. I didn't catch our waiter's name, but he was awesome. We had really good drinks and he gave me tastes of wine before I actually ordered a glass. If you are looking for an excellent, ellegent meal in a laid-back atmosphere, you must go here. I highly recommend making a reservation.
Great vibes in this place, went in 30 min before closing but it was full of customers & they stayed open at least 30 min past closing. Customer service goes above & beyond. Food good.
Food was fantastic, every single thing was delicious. The biggest stand outs were the Lobster Mac and Cheese, the Tiramisu, and of course the Prime Rib (perfectly tender and flavorful). Our only disappointment was the service, everything from checking in for our reservation, getting water, or ordering dessert required flagging someone down. Overall would come again but hope the service was just a one time fluke.
In town for work and came across this restaurant in my search. I made a reservation for Friday at 7: 45, arrived there was no one at the host stand, i gave grace since i know most
Places are short staffed these days. After about 5 mins a team member came and greeted me. I was immediately seated.
I ordered and espresso martini … it was made perfectly. Just the way i liked.
For food, i opted ribeye and the lobster Mac… wow! The layer of flavors in both dishes was wonderful! I was very pleased. The steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The chimichurri was very tasty and flavorful.
Overall great experience.
One of my favorite restaurants in the city, it’s a go-to for any occasion. The prime rib is to DIE for and their cocktails are amazing!
Great atmosphere with terrible food: (.
The octopus was so tough it was difficult to cut through and even harder to chew. The short rib was also incredibly tough and I had to spit out a few pieces of it because it was inedible. The staff were really kind and the atmosphere is great. But for the pricing I was expecting good food and was seriously disappointed.
A divine birthday dinner for my husband. We got a 6pm rez on a Thursday and we were greeted by the most friendly staff and attended to quickly and consistently throughout our meal. We chose the wagyu burger, shrimp feta dish, and the ravioli as our main dishes. Everything was mouthwatering delicious and I couldn’t believe we hadn’t been before. Aside from the food- the main event is the service. Our server - Miki? - treated us like family and made our evening so special. We will be back to this warm, special place. I will dream about the food!
Reserved a table for 8: 15pm. When we arrived it was hard to get the attention of any of the servers, only to be told that there are many people also waiting to be seated (some with reservations and others without), and that we would have to wait. The server made no attempt to explain the situation to us, or help us in any way.
Sure, food and atmosphere are important for a restaurant, but most important is it's ability to lead basic operations like seating people who've made a (confirmed) reservation. Poor service, bad overall experience. We ended up leaving, and won't be coming back anytime soon. Shame.
Sexy, Loungy Vibe - Friday night after a few cocktails and was looking for a chill place to have a quick bite at the bar. I stumbled in to the BB lured in by the chill soulful music and dim lighting. The place was packed but I was cheerfully seated at the bar. I really felt like I was in a cool bar/resto in Europe. The service was nice, the music so cool (not that annoying oomph, oomph, oomph EDM they play at many restos), and my burger, fries, and glass of wine perfection. Looking around seemed like a great date place with the red faux leather booths and sexy lighting.
Nothing special, I had chicken (they say it's half but it may have been a Cornish chicken too small). It was ok, more skin than meat.
We also had lamb lollipop for appetizer, we were 4 people and that dish had only 2. The server could have said it wasn't going to be enough.
Absolutely Amazing GEM! From the time I walked up. I was greeted and seated with such great energy! The appetizers were great (Brussel Sprouts and Shrimp) entrees were even better (lamb and steak). I mean, what a GEM, the ambiance, the music, and the romantic setting just have me wondering why we are just hearing about this restaurant. Sooooo happy we learned of it on IG!
Came in on a wednesday night to celebrate a birthday. We had reservations so we were seated right away. There are a good amount of tables along the wall in a pretty intimate space. We noticed it was quite busy even for a wednesday. We ordered calamari, potatoes, prime rib eye, and pork chop. We loved it all. The rib eye was cooked perfectly medium and came with little potatoes and peppers on the side. The pork chop was moist and had lots of carrots and potatoes in the sauce. The calamari was thick and tasted really well with the sauce. The potatoes were a great side and perfectly cooked. We did family style and between the 3 of us, there were still some leftovers. We ordered the opera cake and tiramisu for dessert. The cakes were moist and rich and a perfect way to end our dinner. Overall i was really impressed with the food and cant wait to come back again.
Nice atmosphere, attentive service, good, although far from perfect, food.
My husband's king prawns were regular shrimp and my filet mignon was tender and cooked to perfection, but the food was already half cold when it was served to us. You haven't heard of preheating plates at the Blind Butcher.
Overall, the price-performance ratio was modest.
