Borax Visitor Center reviews
17Came here with kids and had a surprisingly good time. Was skeptical as we drove onto a gravel hill close to the mine but then saw a giant wheel that immediately intrigued the kids, along with the 20 mules statue outside. Watched a 15 min informative video that was surprisingly interesting and then looked at the entire mine from a window in the visitor center. They also provided free activity booklets for the kids. Plus it's a free museum. Well worth the short detour, and one of the more memorable places on our trip.
I have seen photos of huge mining operations and the giant vehicles they use. There is an old truck near the parking lot that you can get close to and see how massive it is. This gives very good perspective when you look down into the work area and see how tiny the trucks look. There is a museum that goes through the history of this mine as well as borax. It's all very interesting and worth a side trip.
Loved it. Great place to see what mining Borax is about. It also retains a lot of the history of mine as well
Waited at the visitor gate for 15 minutes. No one came to help us. It was during normal business hours. Really disappointed. And a waste of time.
An informative 15 minute video gives an overview of what borate is, does for us, and how it is extracted from the ground. Huge mining site is in full view from the Visitor Center. Allow 1.5-2.0 hours to enjoy the information and exhibits. Highly recommended.
Very nice/helpful couple staffing the visitor center. PLENTY of parking for large RVs. Just a bit of uphill gravel road at the end but no problem for a motorhome.
I've always knew about Borax, but stopping here and learning about the mine and the process was great! Love the visitors center and being able to see the mine and the plant and learnthe history!
Only after visiting this establishment will you know how interesting Borax is.
Fascinating history.
The staff was extremely knowledgeable and equally friendly and knowledgeable.
It may sound boring but it's well worth your time.
I'd highly recommend visiting this establishment.
If you're traveling past Boron, CA on Hwy 58 it's a nice place to stop and check out the Historic Borax mine. They have a nice visitor center where you can view the entire mine area, also a nice gift shop.
This is a one-time stop place, but there are some interesting elements. If you have any interest in sciences, mining, or industrial activities, or maybe even just history, there's a few good things here.
Cool little museum in the middle of a rather cool area. It's the little things I live for.
Super kind and hospitable, they even showed us a video explaining the site and the production. Very nice and kind even at the gift shop which has honest prices… free but a small donation that is certainly deserved
I was pleasantly surprised with this visitors center. We were welcomed right away and given information. The center feels more like a museum, well made. There is a bunch of neat displays to look at. There is a little gift shop with a nice assortment of things. I recommend this place for old and young.
We were really surprised by this place. The rest stop just before was closed for repairs and we saw the sign for a visitor center and decided to stop. As we were driving, it became more and more clear that we had entered an industrial plant access road and honestly thought the visitors center was a joke but they had so many signs and we just kept following them. Up a reeeeeaaalllly steep hill. We almost turned back. But in the end, there was a very nice little center with a museum exhibit and gift shop and many outdoor dispalys that were quite interesting. And the much needed bathrooms! We got a few books at the gift shop and had a lovely chat with the employees, all of whom seemed very happy in their work.
Nice little pitstop when you’re on the road. Give out cool samples, kids enjoyed it. Share a lot of history and their business practices.
I had no idea the variety of products that use boron. Very educational and an amazing view.
