Budget Car Rental

We rented a car through Costco package and planned to pick up here first, then all the way through highway 1 to LA. We got a dodge charger 2021 as full size car. First day we made a stop at polo alto to visit a friend. And the second day in the morning, the car just couldn’t start with check engine light on in the hotel’s garage. The car even couldn’t be turned off with all the lights on. I tried to Google the issues and both seem to be quite popular with charger. We spent around 4 hours waiting for roadside support on the second day of trip and had to pay the roadside support by ourselves. It’s very unprofessional and irresponsible to rent out a car with such condition to customers. We were lucky that we were still in the hotel and kids can rest in the lobby. I can’t image how long it would take if we were already on highway 1. Highly recommended NOT to do business here.

We got the exact vehicle we'd booked in advance and the pick up process was super straight forward. Overall a very good experience!

UPDATE: Be very careful if dropping your vehicle off at Budget's office at LAX! Several weeks after returning our vehicle there, we got slugged with a US$450 charge for interior cleaning costs for "excessive interior sand". This was for nothing more than a minor amount of grit on the floor dust mats! I also highly recommend taking photos of the vehicle interior on pick-up to ensure they can't pin on you any ridiculous charges for cleaning marks and stains on seats that were already there previously.

The car proposed had a big damage in underbody panel (almost falling apart) therefore I asked for substitution as I had planned several km.
The alternative car (they told me same class of the first one) was way worst in Terms of quality and equipment vs the first one, and also not cleaned inside. As there were no alternatives I had to take it.
Definitely not the car I was expecting for the price I paid.
I would not recommend Budget, and please review the way you classify cars (you cannot put on same level a Hyundai sonata full optional VS a Kia Rio with manual clima).

Car was excellent, staff were very good. Problem was with GPS I ordered - didn't charge properly and hence didn't work consistently, which was frustrating

Extremely difficult to return the car. No designated location to leave the car and with the regular hotel traffic, it is difficult maneuver around.

The rental process went perfectly. The desk attendant at the Hyatt Regency went above and beyond when a wallet was left behind after the car was turned back in. Her kindness and modesty were extraordinary.

Rented a car here in may and I just have to say that Eric was an absolute angel and he went above and beyond! We got a Mazda SUV and I forgot to take pictures of the odometer when returning the car and he was nothing but friendly and sprinted out to the car to get the picture himself. Give this man a raise, I wish more people like Eric would work in customer service! Thank you!
