Last year in connections we did nothing is sucked people were on there phones playing games, one time the old art teacher who is super mean took my phone away BEFORE school started and I see so many people listening to music. All the teachers and Princables are so nice to all the bad kids but hate me and all of my friends for no reason. I hate it

First off, this has been my last year, and frankly my favorite year, and not because I'm leaving. In 8th grade, all the teachers are really good and nice. There is like no homework and the teachers are really chill about everything. Reflecting back on my 3 years, I have learned many things and made many new friends. 8th grade is so fun, and I'm kind of sad to leave BIS.

Last year, the teachers were great, but I had a lot of homework. In 5th grade, the school invested in a 10 million dollar building for Humanities. By the time it was finished, we were at the end of 6th grade, so we never got to use it until 8th grade. The one thing about 7th grade: we had no classes in the nice buildings and the science classrooms did not have lab tables, so we couldn't do experiments and stuff. Last year, they renovated the 7th grade science classrooms, but by they finished, it was halfway through this year. So kinda frustrating, but otherwise it was okay.

In 6th grade, the teachers were really helpful in the transition from elementary school. The academics are not difficult and are not the reason why people hate 6th grade. The first 2 weeks are really awkward, but you'll begin to meet new people. We had to take this class called Social Emotional Learning, which was extremely boring and just talked about bullying the whole time, and didn't really help anything. 6th grade sucks since you get picked on by the older grades. In previous comments, many people complain about bullying. While this is not my main complaint, I do feel that it is obviously present and the admin do nothing about it. 6th graders always have it hardest, in my opinion, so if you dreading 6th grade right now, don't worry. The next two years will be better.

The lunch food is overpriced for its horrible quality. One time I had to get it, and a little salad with a crappy tuna sandwich (the bread was stale and the tuna was gross, ended up taking it out) was $3.75. There is a lot of variety, but don't get to excited. You probably can't taste the difference between a hot dog and a burrito (okay, maybe that is a little strong.)

The yearbook is okay. It costs up to $60, which is overpriced. They have competitions to see which advisory (homeroom) has the highest percentage of yearbooks bought. For being such an expensive yearbook, I believe this is unfair and can alienate kids whose families are not looking to spend that money.

Advisory substituted homeroom last year. Basically, the class size was reduced and you do community building exercises (YAY!). We just end up watching youtube or playing games since by 8th grade, you know everyone's name and are friendly with at least 25% of the school.

The band program is okay, but it seems like the school doesn't really care about it. The band program has little funding and the school instruments are horrible. The band teachers are nice.

The choir/musicals are really popular at school. So if you like to sing, you should join them. I was never interested in it, nor paying 10 dollars for a middle school production, but I know many were and made friends and had fun.

The robotics program did really well this year, but their teacher is kinda mean. That is all I know from it, sorry.

PE is PE. The locker rooms aren't bad. Nobody at this point changes.some teachers make you run the mile. Others don't. The games we do can be kinda weird (knee tag, it's exactly what it sounds like). Other units are like fitness, track, football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, hockey, scooters and kickball. So show up, be nice, pay attention and try a little and you'll for sure get that A+ everyone cares about.

Yeah, so I'm gonna miss this place. The admin feels like they are too distant from the teachers and students and they favor kids who get in trouble a lot. If you find new friends, you'll have a lot of fun. One thing: the math program offers accelerated math if you get above 80% on your math tests in 6th grade. In 8th grade, you do Algebra 1,7th, you do both 7th and 8th grade math. So good luck!

Isn't it great when a teacher gets mad at you when you take two forks (one for you and one for a friend) and make you put it back, even though it costs more germ spreading? Because i personally absolutely, without a doubt, LOVE IT!

BIS is a great school but the food and yearbooks are overprice. Like seriously, they make u buy a dam yearbook for 60 dumb dollars. All they want is money. They even make u buy yearbooks like "if u buy your whole class buys a yearbook, then u get a pizza party" (which cost about $70) and they get about $1,800 for only one class! Also there food is HELL. I don't really think its a good idea to get a yearbook so don't get it. Plus the teachers dosen't care about your education. They just hope u get a bad grade so they can happily make u stay one grade. Plus Bis is BS.some teachers are so mean that i think u should go to taylor instead. I know taylor is broke but bis isen't and they use all the money for thereself. They don't use the money for education. (sorry for bad spelling.) Go to taylor and help donate. They actually use the money for education.anyways bis is OK. Also tanush sucks!

Can't wait to leave, this school sucks. The food is overpriced and taste like trash also most of teachers favor one or two students and don't even check in with the other students, so for the whole class you don't even learn anything. Also in 6th grade I had a teacher who would never call on me when I would raise my hand and she told my parents that its my fault I didn't understand because I don't ask questions.

I honestly can't wait to leave this hell hole, I would not recommend this school even though we are "award winning", some of the teachers are just rude and give you harsh punishments. In 7th grade one of my teachers had scared me so bad that I was shaking the whole day. I will enjoy leaving this school.

This school does barley anything for bullying and and gives kids detentions for talking in class to much and no detention or punishment for harsh bullying.

This is a pretty good school, but it depends on how you look at it. This is from my own experience. (SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM TO AVOID LONG LIST OF PROS AND CONS)

1. Most of the teachers are really kind and are willing to help, unless that teacher is "busy" 80% of the time.
2. I thought it was great that BIS doesn't serve Coke and such, but there's still a few things they can substitute to satisfy students. Lunch and snack prices rise here and there so I highly recommend packing your own food.
3. The homework policy is okay, but some teachers have their own ways of teaching class so be very prepared. And don't bother complaining you're just wasting your time and breath.
4. From what I've been seeing, usually it's the youngsters that give people a hard time (let's say you're a 7th grader with a 75% 6th grade class) but other than that I don't think the 8th grade picks on the younger folks. Not too many people get bullied here but if that's some of the issues the teachers don't do much about it.
5. I couldn't care less about the gate around the school, but I think it ruins the beauty of the buildings inside it.
6. At least here I won't get a zero for turning in my assignment 5 seconds after it's due.
7. "Advisory" is supposed to be like bringing the students together, but that's not really working. In fact, the school seems more divided than ever before.
8. I understand that some teachers don't have time to put your assignment in the gradebook, but it really upsets me at how long it takes to put in a 10-minute quiz.
9. Be careful with what you say, because every little irrelevant thing coming from your mouth could result in a call home and an hour-long lecture from parents.
10. The tardy policy is ridiculous. It was shortened by like a couple minutes (I think) and before you know it you suddenly have after-school detention because you were using the bathroom between 6th and 7th's passing period because you didn't need to use the bathroom 50 minutes before.
Sorry for a super long review, but academically it's pretty good and in short, bring your own lunch, be prepared to start running to classes to avoid detention, and be prepared for the education you're gonna get if you consider enrolling at this school. And be careful with the students here. You never know what could come between you and whoever.
Warning: gossip and rumors spread like wildfire.

Terrible food and it is very expensive, most of the stuff you learn will not help in the real world

Some teachers are nice but the rest are rude and disrespectful and probaly only teach at this school because the school is begging for help because BIS is so bad. Also the teachers don't care about your learning even though they say they do. I got in trouble and threatened by Ms. Sinnot because I was standing on dirt.

I'm in sixth grade and so far it's been relatively good. However there is a lot of bullying that almost everyone who isn't attentive can't see. Also the food is just absolutely horrid and very high priced.
At the beginning of the year they give you a little mini-unit on health and they're not setting a very good example with there school food. All of it is just overpriced cheap meat and a bunch of widely known snack brands with bullcrap labels saying reduced fat and things like that.
Also the teachers are all pretty nice and help you learn things, but they don't like to listen to the students' opinions. Half the time the teachers and staff are strict and overly-enforce rules and the other half they just let everything fly.
The tardy policy is pretty absurd and I've seen people get warnings and sometimes referrals for being 30 seconds late because they went to the bathroom during passing period.
The grading policy is good, but there are some things teachers should be aware of when grading kids. First of all, if you have 100% in a class and then you get like a 99/100 that often brings your grade down like two points which sucks. Also, teachers grade really hard so it's hard for kids when they fall into a "B" to get back up to an "A".
The front office is very helpful and nice which is good to know.
Overall, the school is very good academically and needs some pointers. Stay away from 8th graders if you are a sixth grader and find the right people to be around so you don't get bullied.
