Burma Love - Downtown reviews
16 Amazing amazing food. This was the first time I tried Burmese food. So good, just tasted like wow.
To me the Burmese food was more like a fusion of Indian and That/Vietnamese cuisine. The paratha was super soft. I really like the shrimp dishes. In fact the egg plant dish was also superb.
Great time at Burma Love! Went here for a later in the night reservation and servers were accommodating. The service wasn’t overbearing or underwhelming, felt just right. The tea leaf salad always a hit! The veggie platha dip is always a favorite too:)
The food is fine. The ambiance and service are satisfactory. The only shame is the area, lots of vagrants and dirt. The restaurant deserves a cleaner environment.
Love this place! The service was awesome and the food was great. Will definitely be dining there again.
The waiters gave my food to another person and tried to give it to me after someone else already started eating it.
I enjoyed the delicious food, particularly the tea leaf salad, but the wait staff left much to be desired. The atmosphere had a tech bro vibe, making me wonder if I accidentally stumbled into a Silicon Valley meeting. You've been warned. 2 out of 5.
Recommended by our friend as her favorite place many years ago and none of us were disappointed: >
The tea leaf salad is really interesting. I had tea leaf stir fries but it’s my first time having puréed leaves as the salad sauce. There are so many things in the salad including crunchy peanuts and juicy veggies— although personally I can do with less garlic.
The Burmese curry is tasty too. Flavorful, slightly tomatoey; but not overwhelming the meat itself. The beef is tender.
The mint chicken is well spiced with a hint of spiciness.
Coconut rice is beautiful. Less sweet and lighter as the one in Thai restaurants and can actually be a side rather than dessert.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
I’ll start with saying that the food was amazing. Everything we ate was incredible. However, we ate for 30 minutes and sat at a table being ignored for 2.5 hours. Here’s a little rundown:
Reservation time: 6: 15
Seating time: 6: 45
Water: 7: 15 (30 minutes between sitting down and getting water). We were given 3 jugs of water for 15 people and had to get up to ask for more since no one came to our table again).
First course: 7: 45 (another 30 minutes between water and first course). No drink orders taken yet.
Drink orders: 8: 00 (drinks were not delivered for 30 minutes; after we had finished dinner. One drink was not delivered until after dessert)
Second course: 8: 15
Drinks delivered: 8: 30
Dessert: 9: 00
Last drink delivered: 9: 15
Check: 9: 30
Maybe if you have a small party it’s a different experience, but I’d highly recommend against attempting to take a large party here unless you’re willing to sit at a table with no food or drinks (even water) for hours.
Our server was aggressive when we asked for status of anything and blatantly ignored our table despite us making direct eye contact. We had to get up and go find them to get any attention, and then the attention was fraught with annoyance.
I’ve heard about Burma for years, but none of us will be returning and all of us will be sharing our experience with others.
Food came in the reverse order, first the main course then the appetizers and then the drinks.
It immediately threw us off. Food taste was decent
The plata and chicken dip was more like bread and broth, with barely any chicken. Like two tiny slivers. So definitely not a dip and definitely not a chicken dip. The platha was tasty. The mango chicken was ok, but maybe not the best flavor for me. The mango taste was very strong and gave it the flavor of a tropical cocktail. But mango is like that, so probably should have gone with a different entree. I will try a different dish next time. The portions were ok for the price compared to other places in downtown SF. Will probably try again to see if it’s better.
I made a reservation. When we arrived the table wasn’t ready and there was NO one in the restaurant.
The waiter took our order. Friend specifically said “I’ll start with the soup”. Waiter brings out everything but the soup…. Our lamb curry was cold. Other friend received a dish entirely different than what they ordered. Had to get up and ask for more water TWICE. We ordered a coke halfway through the meal that never came and the soup finally came when everyone was finished with their food. The soup was awful. Very disappointed in the experience. We asked to speak to a manager and were told they were busy.
By far the worst service I’ve experienced at a restaurant in recent memory. My group of four waited for 25 minutes after our reservation to be seated. After being seated, the wait staff was completely inattentive and we had to remind them multiple times about items we had ordered.
Nothing to boast about. Food is average, crowded and exceptionally noisy. You have to scream to be heard across the table. Overpriced and boring. Limited vegetarian options.
The food is good, and size is big, so we accidentally ordered too much. I never had authentic Burmese food, and think this tastes like American Chinese food.
This restaurant was suggested to me on one of my return visits to San Francisco. The food really is as delicious as everyone says! I didn't have the luxury of going inside the restaurant this time, but even having it delivered by Door Dash it was full of flavor. Its plenty of food and unmatched by anything i've had like it. I highly recommend going and checking it out!
Didn't know what Burmese food was before I ate here. This place did not disappoint. Surprisingly, my favorite dish was just the plain broccoli. It was cooked in a broth that was delicious.
