This is the second home renovation project we have done with CairnsCraft and we could not be happier to work with them. Marie and Charles are wonderful to work with - they are kind, patient, and responsive, and they are very good about communicating over the course of the project. They work with outstanding subcontractors who do beautiful work, and their own employees are terrific. They get the renovations done efficiently, they stick to the budget carefully, and they get good and fair pricing. Our most recent renovation could have taken several months, but they got it done in just a few weeks and the work is impeccable. We have recommended them to many of our friends and will continue to do so, and look forward to working with them in the future on our next home projects.

Cairnscraft helped with a remodel project on our floors and kitchen. Their attention to detail was excellent and responsiveness to issues were efficient and appreciated. They kept to the budget and their tracking system was very helpful to manage expenses. Additionally, the whole team is professional and kind.

I absolutely LOVE Marie and Charles. We used them to remodel our La Jolla home after another contractor left us high and dry (and "forgot" to get permits for his work. " They came in and re-did what needed to be done at fair, reasonable, and straightforward pricing. They can be trusted with quality and time. CairnsCraft is now my go-to for any work I need done. They built an ADU for me on time and on budget for the same house in La Jolla. We later moved to Rancho Santa Fe, and they did it again, converting a four-car garage and outbuilding into a beautiful 1 bedroom apartment! They made it really sweet, with a kitchenette, bathroom with large tub, and heated floors. It's a little oasis built out of 500 square feet, and adds so much to our home. We selected CairnsCraft Design & Remodel after interviewing a few different remodeling firms. We were looking for a solid reputation, a designer that would not give us a cookie-cutter design, and a firm that led with great communication. We relied heavily on the CairnsCraft designer to come up with non-traditional creative solutions taking into account our specific requests for wall removals, addition of storage, etc. She helped us nail down a unique personalized design, and guided us through the selection of materials/finishings knowing we had a specific vision and color palette in mind. Then on the construction side, we were pleased to see the quality of the craftsmanship between all the trades. We also had a few tradespeople of our own that we were able to weave into the project amongst the CairnsCraft teams - which worked out great. Communication was very consistent from the start of the project. The use of an online platform was great to ensure all communications were in one place with photos/videos. They had a team member at the job site consistently thru/out the construction. Their coordination on receipt of materials such as cabinetry, kitchen/bath materials, flooring/tile, etc.was extremely helpful. The project was also completed on schedule so we could move back in prior to the holidays. Overall, we are exceptionally proud of our partnership with CairnsCraft in helping us through our vision to the end result. Our dream home is exceptional, and we couldn't have done it without the CairnsCraft team.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This company is not equipped to handle anything larger than a closet remodel. We found out the hard way when we hired them to design an expansion to our house to increase the size of our bathrooms and master bedroom.

We gave them a budget early on and they completely ignored it. We didn't receive their initial quote until it was time to submit drawings to the city. That quote was more than double our stated budget. They then said that their revised would be much lower, but it came out even HIGHER.

They did a terrible job at tracking, or perhaps simply didn't track how design costs were adding up.

They wasted close to 9 months of our time because they moved so slowly.

Keep these vultures out of your home.

For my guest bathroom remodel I looked at several different companies, but when I met with Charles of Cairns Craft Design and Remodel I was immediately impressed with his knowledge, honesty and desire to ensure I was comfortable with all aspects of the project before committing. I am extremely happy that I chose to work with Charles and Marie and their phenomenal team. I had a challenging schedule which Marie worked tirelessly to ensure was met. I enjoyed every part of the experience from the design, material selection to the actual construction. Communication is essential with these projects and I cannot commend the team highly enough for their response rate to questions and the daily project management of the job by Marie and Brad. The sub contractors were of the highest quality, and the finished product from design to finish to functionality is superb.

We hired CairnsCraft to renovate the back half of our house, which included moving walls, building a walk-in closet, and reconfiguring/replacing two bathrooms. After meeting with several contractors, we chose to work with Charles and Marie based on their candid and realistic assessment of our project and the detailed proposal they offered. After we signed the construction contract, CairnsCraft provided a schedule and was on-site each day to monitor the project. The CairnsCraft team kept us well-informed via email and text and handled any issues in real time on our behalf. Any questions or concerns we had were addressed thoroughly and quickly. Our project was originally scheduled to take four months, but CairnsCraft worked so efficiently with their subcontractors that they actually finished a few weeks early! We are very pleased with the finished product.

We LOVE our new kitchen renovated by CairnsCraft! We have a very old house, and the kitchen had to be completely demolished and rebuilt, and now it looks like a brand-new kitchen! We were very fortunate to have the breadth and experience of the CairnsCraft staff and subcontractors to be able to expertly design, create, and build a much more beautiful AND functional kitchen. We were impressed with having a project manager onsite every day, and it was very easy to communicate with the entire team of professionals doing the project. We could always call, text or email them and get immediate responses. Since we were doing the project during the pandemic, it took longer than we had hoped because of supply chain challenges. But, CairnsCraft expertly planned for those, gave us a very clear and detailed calendar for each stage of the project, and then completed it almost exactly within the time frame they planned. They used an excellent online platform that allowed all project details to be in one spot, including timeline, communication, finances, and photos of progress made. We selected CairnsCraft to remodel our kitchen and freshen up our living room. Throughout the process, they were prompt and attentive to our questions and concerns. Planning, design, and construction were handled well. We appreciated their attention to detail, fast response to emails, phone calls, and text messages during the project. They were on the jobsite daily. The online software they use to communicate with us during the remodeling project, which included scheduling, daily log notes, photos and financing was awesome. Invoices were made along the way, and it was very clear what each payment was for. They were great at scheduling workers so that the project finished on time. I worked with Cairns Craft on a second project after they finished a previous project for me at another home. I love CairnsCraft, and find their motto “build on a foundation of trust” to be the way they operate. It’s hard to find a builder you trust and I genuinely do trust Marie and Charles! In addition, they do great work.

For this specific project, they converted a 500 square foot, free-standing garage into a one bedroom apartment. It looks fantastic. I wanted it to be quite nice in spite of the small space, so we put heated floors and a big bathtub throughout the space! The unit even has a full kitchen. It’s amazing to me what they accomplished in a small space, and everything fit together beautifully.

I had asked them to get the work done as quickly as possible, and they estimated about 3 months. They agreed but also were realistic, and ended up finishing exactly on the schedule we established in advance, by the end of August 2021. The project was also in alignment with the budget.

I don’t personally enjoy choosing fixtures and tiles, and found that I could trust their good judgment to choose those things for me or narrow down a list of a few options. The ADU is modern, luxurious, light-filled and lovely. The transformation is quite amazing and I found this to be a fantastic investment in our home. I’ll work with them again. Marie and Charles are my trusted go-to in San Diego, and I could not recommend them more highly.

We chose CairnsCraft Design & Remodel for our kitchen and master bath remodel. From the start, we were impressed with their professional approach. Marie produced a detailed project proposal with itemized costs and a preliminary timetable. The project began on time and we were kept up to date each day using online software. We stayed in our home during the entire project, which could have been very challenging. However, we were fully informed about which subcontractors would be at our home each day and when they would arrive. We found all of them to be highly skilled and professional as well as kind and respectful of us and our pets. From demolition to the final shower glass installation, their expert project management team made sure our remodel was finished on time and on budget. They even helped us with the delays we encountered with appliances (from another company)! We are thrilled with our beautiful new kitchen and master bath and highly recommend Cairns Craft – they’re true professionals.

When we moved into our home, it was our dream to build a balcony off the second floor master bedroom to enjoy the water views! Having never undertaken such a big remodel, Cairnes Craft helped us from the design to build. Since we wanted more space for solar, they designed the balcony with a ceiling to provide more space for solar on the rooftop. They matched the existing roof line, making the new balcony appear as if it were part of the original build while also providing lots of space for the new solar panels.

Once we signed on, Marie took over as project manager. She made sure the workers came, stayed on schedule, and everyone cleaned up at the end of the day. We were very impressed with the quality of the work and the men who provided their services. When problems arise, as they always do, Marie adapts. For example: they found an a/c pipe inside the wall where the new door was supposed to go and she found someone to come out right away.

As the project progressed, Marie stayed in touch, kept the schedule moving, and workers coming. She clearly cared about the quality of the work as much as we do and her relationship with her clients! With Marie, it was easy to relax and let her manage and worry about the details.

We are thrilled with the new balcony and so glad we entrusted Marie, Charles, and CairnesCraft with this massive project.
