California Dreams Hostel - Ocean Beach

Great hostel with spacious rooms!
Outdoor and common areas are very nice and clean.
Breakfast is great (could start way earlier than 8.30 though)
Bathrooms are always clean and spacious.
The Position is one negative aspect: There is not much in the area, but the bus stop is 1min walk.
Also, of course you cannot chose roommates, but maybe I should have specified to the staff that I'm not comfortable with drugs smell all over the room. (But this is random I guess.)
Very good value for money, especially in comparison with hostels in downtown for the same price, which are horrible compared to this.
I'm very happy with this hostel and would come back!

This is the best hostel in San Diego in my opinion! Super clean, comfortable beds, helpful staff. On site pool and hot tub! The front porch area is super cute and inviting. I was able to catch their family dinner, which was this delicious authentic Argentinian meal made by Tina. I highly recommend this place for your next visit to San Diego!

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at, the staff were perfect the location was spot on and the staff were amazing can’t wait to go back!

This place has a great vibe. Clean and friendly. Tina and Dan cooked an amazing family dinner and were very helpful on our stay.

This was my first time staying at a hostel and the California dreams hostel was a great first experience. All the employees were kind and welcoming, the community areas were quiet and well furnished with lots of amenities. I would definitely do it again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great community driven option

This is not hostel, it's more like a student campus. Made new friends every day. Kitchen is HUGE and the place is big so you aren't tripping over people. All the staff are so lovely, especially Dan the Man who Can and super smiley Tina. No better place to stay:)

It was excellent, a really good experience, there was really good places a views, the guide was nice and he knew everything around.

This was my first time checking into a hostel. My 1st choice was to stay in La Jolla. So how was my visit? I received a text to confirm my check in, that was thoughtful, as I was on my way to San Diego. When I arrived, there was an employee sitting at a computer. I rang the service buzzer, because I needed to get checked in. The employee didn’t acknowledge that I was there, so I rang the service buzzer again. The employee then approached, said that he would get someone to check me in.

I can’t recall her name, but she checked me in, after I provided my vehicle information (I was provided a parking pass since I paid as a private guest). She then ask me if I was going to pay for my remaining days, I was initially charged for the 1st day. I went ahead and paid for my entire stay…no worries!

The next morning, there was a parking violation warning on my car, although I the parking pass visible. I notified management.

I checked in on Wednesday, received the parking violation notice on Thursday, again on Friday, even though I had the parking pass! Management again stated that they would take care of it (they took pictures of the parking pass inside the car.)

My room was cleaned on Thursday, but not on Friday. I even had a conversation with the housekeeper, who was cleaning the room right next to mine. She stated that she did not speak English, and that my room (Room F) was not on her list!

I observed Customers checking in, and not once were they asked to pay in advance for their remaining stay. (Odd)

I did like the privacy, and the coziness of a small customer atmosphere. The kitchen that was provided was cool (me being a great cook).

I like the location, 5 minutes from the Ocean Beach, 17 minutes from Pacific Ocean Beach pier, 25 minutes from La Jolla!

I gave the Hostel a 3 because of being asked to pay in advance for my remaining stay, for my room only being cleaned once (I checked in on a Wednesday, checked out on Saturday) and the parking notices placed on my car, even with the parking pass permit visible!

The guest seemed cool…everyone was relatively personable.

My highlight was playing ping pong with Tina. She pretty much took me to school! I loved her skills, and competitive mindset. We would still be playing had her feet not started to get callous (yeah she was beating me…. With no shoes on!). I’m looking forward to the rematch whenever I return to La Jolla!

I wish the best to Marien, the teacher from Germany.

My only advice to the staff? Treat ALL employees fairly and with respect…. No matter what Keith, Robert, Scott, Cassandra, Samantha, Lauren, or Serena tell you. (What? You really didn’t believe that I was not aware that you were tipped off!)

Great place exactly as advertised! Good, good and good. Tina is the best, made our stay very comfortable.

We’re from Berkeley & really appreciate staying in a neighborhood spot. Great location with all the beach amenities available (we always rent bikes!) and courteous service every time. We love Ocean Beach & we love this Dream Hostel! Book it.

Great vibes, extremely clean and staff were welcoming. The “Family Dinner” night was also extremely fun and the food was fantastic. Would definitely recommend.

I loved staying here!
I booked last minute in order to keep an appointment.
I booked due to the insane deal they had for one night and I was impressed with everything!

It was definitely clean! The showers are very clean and they are well taken care of. My room was immaculate. I could tell the linens were fresh! I booked a mixed room with 6 beds; and they have complimentary earplugs, with little curtains on each bed.
They have many items that you are able to rent, like towels, wetsuits, surfboards, bikes, and much more for a small fee.
I will definitely be staying here next time I am in the area.

OMG! I just had taco Tuesday with Chef Dan. It was exuberant! It came with a delicious margarita, delicious. The tacos were extra af! I don’t even want to describe them, I don’t want to d*ck out. What I can say is that the beans, the beans! Damn. I love this place,
Heaven on earth; I want to live here forever.

Staff was incredible- Pricless. The hospitality was beyond expectations and the whole crew were there for whatever one needs
