California Shabu Shabu

This place is bomb. Food is good. Location is prime. Used to be owned by a awesome guy and his son but i think they have new owner ship, because the last time we went in, the service wasn’t that good.

I came here twice during my recent work trip to Irvine. This place is a gem! Meats, seafood and veggie plates are all fresh, with great quality. The owner is extremely nice. All staff is attentive and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

First time having Shabu Shabu. I didn't know the first thing about how to Shabu Shabu but the staff were very kind and explained the whole process. The prime rib is very good and it made for a fun date experience 10/10.

I'm hesitant to leave a review. I don't want this place blowing up so much I can't get a table. This might be the best shabu place in southern California. An unassuming little place tucked away in a hip little strip mall. The prime rib is melt in your mouth, buttery. Pork belly, same story. The muscles were fresh. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was energetic. They have an amazing menu, Scotch selection and a good amount of beers to choose from. I'm picky as hell and the food was better than expected. It's a bit pricey but worth every penny.

This place knows what they are doing g in every way. The original and still the best. Thank you for a great time and a wonderful experience.

I ate here recently with my husband and son and we absolutely loved it! Since this was our first time here we had a "guide" who basically walked us through a very enjoyable dinner. You will want to select a broth. Great experience!

Cal Shabu is the best shabu shabu around. High quality meat, great broths and vegetable options, great service and fun environment. They are always soo happy to see us and they treat us like family everytime we are there.

Honestly such a bad experience that could have been salvaged. Let me explain.
Moms birthday so I call 5 days prior
I tell them it’s 8 people they let me make a reservation
They say to come 15-20 minutes early. So we show up at 6: 10.20 minutes early.

At 6: 25 I’m told that “oh we called you at 5 o clock to confirm the reservation”. I’ve never had to… confirm an already confirmed reservation.

So I was working… which is why I set the reservation.

Basically because I didn’t pick up at 5. To verify my already verified reservation (in which I wasn’t told to expect a call to confirm my confirmation).

I missed it. Yes cause I was working.

We weren’t given concessions. Kept being told they don’t know if they have room for 8 (never told to me) but they’ll try and make it happen. We leave at 6: 50.

My first time trying Shabu shabu and I’m so glad I came here! I was super impressed by how much time and attention they gave us as they showed us the process. (And made sure we were happy throughout our dining)
It was a fun new experience and tasted amazing!

BEWARE - They will up charge you!

I must have upset an employee on accident. They first sat us under the AC. I requested to move and they moved us. No big deal. At my new seat, another employee (that it must have bothered and would later overcharge us and only communicate to my girlfriend and not myself) came up and gave me a hard time for moving. He was really bothered and borderline got in my face.

Another server ended up helping us that was really nice and attentive.
We order a combo with the cheapest beef option. I asked for no udon (gluten allergy) and that extra udon for my girl.

At the end of our meal, the original employee that was disgruntled by my request appeared to take over in order to give us our check. He not only charged us a extra charge for "premium beef" but also for extra Udon. I explained we didn't get premium beef and that I didn't get udon which is why I asked for the extra udon for the girl. Instead of listening to me or trying to understand, he argued that I should have checked the menu. I explained myself again but he wouldn't budge. I paid but I really regret not walking out.

I ruined the experience for both of us and will not return. BEWARE - Check your final bill!

Very enjoyable experience. Loved the meat quality. The dipping sauces were also spectacular. Would have liked more veggies but that's just a personal thing. The meat cuts were definitely the highlight.

Solid place. Food is fantastic, lots of flavor. Everyone very friendly and helpful. Will continue to visit every time I’m in OC. 5/5 would highly recommend.

Amazing! The owner really takes care of his business. He really puts the effort to provide outstanding service in every detail. I definitely recommend this place
