California State Board of Pharmacy

I submitted my pharmacy technician license in April and still haven't heard anything back from the board of pharmacy. I have emailed multiple times and even call, the line goes straight to voicemail. It's ridiculous that it's taking this long to process applications people do have life's and need to make a living.

If you think that adequate people work in this organization, then you are mistaken. I have been waiting for my license almost a year. When you call them, a person can't answer on any question. In my opinion, all people from this organization should be fired. They are completely incompetent people who do not know the work. The worst organization I have ever dealt with

I am a licensed pharmacist in California, Oregon, and Colorado and the California licensing process was by far the lengthiest and most complicated of the three. It costs $550 to renew a pharmacist license in California - what is all that money going toward? Surely it's not towards CPJE question development, a supposed "law exam" that asked me the genus and species of a particular disease-causing bacteria (the CA law exam quite famously is only 10% law questions and 90% clinical). The money also isn't going towards timely processing of license applications, as it took me FIVE months to have my license posted after submitting all the required documentation. The money ALSO isn't going towards hiring sufficient staff, as most calls and emails go unanswered and the staff that do answer the phone are clearly overworked and underpayed. I had a simple question about a legal name change and Janaya was so unbelievably rude to me, speaking to me like I was a child before eventually hanging up on me. I asked to speak to someone else when I called back and was transferred to a full voicemail box. How are pharmacists and technicians supposed to make a living in this state under these conditions? California BOP, please take the expensive licensing fees you collect and put them to better use!

I am beyond annoyed the board of pharmacy is an abomination. Lazy workers, never answer the phones. I submit my application more than 7 months ago and it has not been processed. I don’t understand how this place is running step it up and start using electronic forms this is not the 1800s

I have submitted my tech license application sometime around September of 2022 and have still not received any further updates. It is right now almost mid January of 2023 and the state board of pharmacy hasn’t responded to my emails regarding a status. Very unprofessional work ethics here. Whoever the manager or supervisor of this place is needs to be terminated immediately since I can’t even get of hold of them. I called them on the phone and a representative said they’ll get back to me next week and still nothing since then. Worst experience I’ve ever had and i think I just wasted 195 dollars on my application. I did everything correctly and still no updates to this day.

No way to get a hold of a human by phone. Don’t bother. If you have an issue just cut your losses! God bless America!

Been waiting for my license since January…. They told me in May I was missing some paper work. I submitted the paperwork as soon as possible and still till this month of July I haven’t received anything not even an email. When trying to get a hold of an agent the call automatically hangs up.

The most corrupt licensing and regulatory institution I've ever encountered. The people who run the organization have let chain pharmacies exploit the health of millions of people in the state. They do very little to make the working environments safe for pharmacists and the people they serve. They hide behind the excuse of " we can't tell a business how to operate" as their reason not to hold big time executives responsible for unsafe, unethical business practices. This Board does not stand up for its licensee's, rather they hold them accountable for the actions of prescribers, who continue to write large amounts of controlled substances without consequence. The process has been made too easy for doctors to prescribe whatever they want and for pharmacy supervisors to bully their staff. Meanwhile, pharmacy is drowning by very restrictive laws and policies that are ambiguous. Pharmacists in the state of California aren't even tested on the law to become licensed, rather, they are tested twice on clinical knowledge. The board is quick to point out shortcomings in licensees and fine them for little mistakes when it allowed people, who cheated on a board exam, to become pharmacists. A complete abuse of power by an organization that cannot be held accountable by a higher authority.

Incompetent institution that shamelessly freezes people’s livelihood and career from progressing. You owe everyone a rebate — and an apology — for the monumental delay in approving licenses.

THEY DON'T ANSWER! I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE 6 MONTHS SINCE I SENT THE PHARMACIEST TECH APPLICATION, THEY TOOK MY MONEY AND NO ANSWERS AT ALL, THEY JUST DON'T CARE! AND THERE IS NO WAY TO COMPLAIN!

I have been trying to reach the pharmacy intern license line for about 5 months now and they never answer. It’s ridiculous.

Communicating with them is worse than communicating with the board in my third world country! Their phone representative are very discourteous they don’t even know how to say please and thank you.been a very negative experience so far.

The Board of Pharmacy did not do their job. They cashed out my check, took my hard earned money but never renew my license. Now my license got cancelled and I never received any kind of mail or notification. This is so wrong, very wrong. I called many many time but noone picked up! I have emailed several times but they just brushed it off and said I need to apply again without explaining to me what went wrong. I did what was asked of me, I sent it the renewal within the time frame, mailed out the check, they cashed it and everything but never renew my license! Now I’m left without a license and $300 gone! Who can help me? I need my license back! Who can I complain to?
