Museum docents knowledgeable as well as proactive.freely offering mining tales as well as explaining mining operations while walking along the mining equipment trail. The
educational experience created an awesome awareness of the hardiness of a miners life.

Great little museum to learn about the mining history of California. Tons of minerals, gems, stones etc.

They also have a Junior Ranger scavenger hunt.

Beautiful, small museum explaining gold mining in California and a wonderful collection of minerals from the area and from around the world. The golden nugget was the winner for us! Entrance was a bit of a search for us, at the end of the camping area. Only open Thursday through Sunday.

A gem of a museum with gems inside Beautiful rocks, and chosen just right, very educative displays and knowledgeable staff. We enjoyed learning about gold mining history, how claims work and the small pretend mine.

Fun little stop! This is the official California State collection of rocks, gemstones and minerals. Great displays and they even have a mine you can walk through!

State museum dedicated to mining and minerals. Nice collection of minerals from around the world and from California. Reconstruction of a mine gallery. Beautiful models. The largest unmelted gold papite is exposed (Fricot nugget). Unfortunately, photos are prohibited throughout the Museum. Admission price: $4 per adult.

Worth a stop if you are nearby. The staff were very helpful and attentive initially and then we were left to our own devices.
Took between 30-45 minutes to go through everything and learned a lot.
Some really good history on the gold mine but seems a long way from major cities! Only stopped as we were travelling through and would recommend to anyone doing the same or staying nearby.
Great value as well.

Great examples and specimens of many gemstones and minerals. Would have been a five star, but the one exhibit I went to see, the mine tunnel recreation, was closed for to recent storm flooding.

Nice museum on mining etc. Great examples of what gems & minerals look like in the ruff & polished. So many gems from the U. S. & many other countries. Also, there is a huge piece of gold in a dbl vault. There is a mock mineshaft tunnel one can go in but is closed at this time.
Located on the fairgrounds. When you drive in, turn left & go thru the gate to the museum.
The male employee the day I was there is very informative & friendly as was the female ranger. It's a State Park. If you have kids, there is a fun jr ranger scavenger hunt for them.

Not sure of the price. Not $$. They had a quiz sheet for the kids to fill out that the 9 yr old enjoyed. Lots of displays including one from Trinity Co. A mine tunnel to walk through, a "vault" of precious gemstones and minerals, a controllable blackliight display and a very knowledgeable and friendly ranger (?) at the door. Easy to find in Mariposa at the fairgrounds.
