California Surf Museum reviews
14Had. Very enjoyable experience at the surf museum! Interesting exhibits and Tom was very knowledgeable and helpful!
Such a great museum with wonderful exhibits on waves, shaping, types of boards, with tons of different boards everywhere, including Bethany Hamilton's board (which was insane to see).
Such a wonderful rich history is being preserved here. The curator was incredibly friendly and had an incredibly deep knowledge about everything there. Wonderful time, can't recommend it enough!
Bastion of iconic surfing memorabilia, with actual artifacts of real surfing hero’s and legends.
They have:
* some of Morey Boogie’s first boogie board designs,
* the first hydrofoil ever developed,
* several of Duke Kanahamoku’s long boards,
* Bethany Hamilton’s surfboard and swimsuit she was wearing during the famous shark attack (from the movie Soul Surfer),
* actual electronic planer and several patterns of the infamous surfboard designer Donald Takayama
* the first commercially produced bet fins for swimming
And lots more.
It’s a bit on the small side, but packed with friendly staff, incredibly knowledgeable docents, and some great souvenirs.
Also, includes the most throughly dedicated surf science exhibit, explaining how surf models are generated with incredible precision and accuracy.
My kids LOVED the museum. I loved understanding more of the science behind waves and to be able to see so much of history in a small museum. Certainly worth a trip for all visitors of Oceanside. Takes less than 2 hours to view the exhibits, but that’s time we’ll invested.
Came here with my mom and grandparents on a two day trip to Oceanside. We all loved it. Perfect size museum and there was even a hidden "secret spot" where we took some memorable surf photos. The prices of the admission was so reasonable and so was the gift shop. I really appreciated how accessible it is. Very cool history and learned a lot AND had fun! Thank you to the friendly staff!
So many surfboards from older to newer boards. Beautiful boards from the best makers in the business. Worth checking out!
Neat little museum with some incredible historical items. Shows the true bare bones what surfing was and the influence it has today on the world. Staff is very friendly and intelligent on any subject relating to surfing- they’ve done their homework!
I Have a 9’9” Rick Surfboard that my Dad gave me in 1964 I think it is a 1960 i was 8 years old, I plain on Donating it when I get a Chance.
Very pleased. Volunteers that were there were very informative and knowledgeable. You could tell they loved being there, and they were involved in the history as well
We went to the Surf Museum recently and had a fun time. The employees were so nice and quite enthusiastic about surfing. It was so much fun to see the early surfboards and learn about the original shapers. Nice section on Bethany Hamilton and her earliest days surfing
Small museum, well laid out to maximize the space. Interesting history, exhibits and fun gift shop.
Great little museum dedicated to all aspects of surfing. My last visit was at the old location.
Friendly staff. Nice exhibits.
Just pointless. Incoherent displays. Needs so much work to make it interesting. Save your $7 entry fee.
I love the old surfboards and the stories accompanying the creators of the sport. The museum is always amazing and I come here every couple of years just to see what is new.
