Carnitas El Rey

Jejejeje, i just had King Taco and I was extremely disappointed, then, the next day I go to Carnitas El Rey, and my mind gets blown away! The tacos here are REAL TACOS! U get a full handful of meat, bigger than average freshly made tortillas, full to the brim for $4.50 a taco. (2 are more than enough lol!) They have a salsa bar with everything u might need on ur taco. Simple, no frills, just lots of meat, perfectly cooked, full of flavor. Highly recommend making a pit stop here!

Completely amazing. The best food. My parents buy this food every weekend. They love it on Sundays. I guarantee you’ll love it too.

Never been here when the line is short but it does move fast. Great customer service. Super friendly. The food is delicious. The tacos are bigger than your average taco. Their tortillas are really good. Salsa, ni se diga! It’s my go to spot when I work around the area.

Simple and to the point… carnivores welcome… carnitas for days = the best! Carnitas with tortillas and all the fixins with a sweet jamaica - who needs anything more. Tripe also available to mix in. Friendly staff. Line out the door tells you this is a local favorite. Located downtown and walking distance from the train station.

How is it that they sell you the sauces and the onion and cilantro.
It is assumed that if you sell a taco it has salsa and onion and cilantro.
Pay more for sauces than carnitas

Not only are the carnitas bomb but the place is clean and staff is cool! You already know if the surrounding area ain't ghetto the food ain't good!

Every once in a while we make the trip to Oxnard to try the Michoacán style carnitas. My husband loves the tacos at this place. It’s worth the trip plus do some sightseeing.

Omg! If you like Carnitas, this is the place to eat. Simply mouth watering good. They're infused with such an amazing flavor that nothing else is needed on them. A must stop if you're ever in the Downtown Oxnard area.

The service was amazing. They were so kind and friendly. Made the ambiance a perfect eat-in appearance.

Highly recommended! Very rich everything and moderate prices. Go patiently because there are usually long lines. (Please respect the lines and don't get in.) If you're ordering to go, I recommend you call to make your order and you'll skip the lines.

The place is excellent sometimes because of the taste of the food the place is full, but the wait is well worth it because the tacos are well served and the seasoning is very good

Not from Oxnard, but I visit often and I got to say… Some of the best Carnitas and quit he doesn’t I’ve had this side of the border. The tortillas are absolutely fantastic, wonderful service, a lovely aesthetic. That makes me feel like I’m back in Mexico, and the cueritos may just be as authentic as possible. Overall, if you are in the city of Oxnard, and you like yourself some Carnitas, do yourself a favor and go!

I asked for the most popular tacos, which is the mixta, and they recommended that only 2 tacos were enough. In the end I ate 4 tacos.

Best Carnitas around. I have always loved carnitas though it is very hard to find good carnitas. The taste is definitely key but the meats and the different types are key. Personally, I like them to include a good amount of fat not just the meaty stuff as I find it dry otherwise. If I must say, I'd say that I like Michoacán-Style carnitas which appears to include cuero and buche. I am sure there are other differences. Luckily for us, they will ask you what you want included and the ratios. I get everything except the buche and like a 60/40 carnitas and cuero ratio. As far as the experience, I have been here a couple of times with my wife whom is not a big fan of the carnitas because of how fatty they can be but she likes them here so that gives you an insight into how good they are. We came today and we took 2 lbs ($11.99/lbs) to go and as always, they are delicious.

Came at around 9: 30 in the morning and they were already pretty busy for being and the fact that they only sell carnitas with limited options for eating them, tells you how good it must be.

Plenty of people eating inside and many more standing on line waiting to be helped. Yes, you have to order upfront but they're fast. They don't have many options; basically carnitas by themselves (add an order of tortillas and you can make yourself tacos with as much carnitas as you want). You can get them with rice and/or beans, or tacos already made and I believe they now serve burritos. I can't say everything is good (rice, beans, salsas and tortillas) because they don't standout except for their tortillas which are big and handmade. You have to pay for them (unless you get the tacos) separately but considering how good they are, it is worth the extra cost. Overall, I'd say it is a little pricey but totally worth it. I do have a complaint since you have to pay for their salsas.at least to go and i find the cost expensive. I believe the salsa is part of the Michoacán-Style carnitas, I personally don't care for it so I probably won't keep buying them.

If I recall correctly, the salsa bar is available for free if eating inside but to pay for it to go? Come on, if anything I'd say salsa should be limited but free based on what you order.

I'd totally recommend this place though they should look into serving beer. The only better place, I'd recommend a place in Baja California (Rosarito Area) that I recently found on one of our last trips otherwise this place is your place.

Realistically, no one is driving hours just for food so I am super glad we found this place and only half hour away. If you know better ones, let me know and we might be willing to drive there to try them out.

Personally, I didn't like the service, everyone was very distracted, I asked them if I could grab the salsa and they told me no, they put it in the tacos that I bought to take away, I ordered 2 orders of a taco with assorted double tortillas, they delivered them to me and when I got to work I realized that they did NOT give me the tacos with double tortillas OR the sauces. A taco with a tortilla, rice and beans, NO fork OR spoon OR napkins, it's my first time visiting this place but I'm going to return because the carnitas are very good.
