Cathedral Lakes Trailhead reviews
4This is probably the most popular hike in the Tuolumne Meadows area, for good reason. There's about 1,000 feet of elevation to be gained over the 3.4 miles, it was more like 4 miles each way with the recent construction. I loved the hike. We did the Upper and Lower Lakes. We hiked all the way around both lakes. We left the upper lake and climbed up a granite slab and descended to some steep granite instead of following the trails. We returned via the traditional trail system.
In early June 2022 the trail was covered in snow and wet and muddy. You need hiking shoes and hiking poles, which I did not have. I had to turn back before getting to the lakes. I lost track of the trail on the way back since it is not well marked.
The trails to Upper and Lower Cathedral Lakes are a lot of fun. Many beautiful views along the way.
An absolute cracker - good shade and cool in the summer, beautiful lake.
