Champion Smokehouse And Market reviews
16Man I am a foodie and that means I'm eating a lot of places but this barbecue is SNACKING SMACKING DELICIOUS I go the very least at least twice a month
Horrible food, not the same people. This place is nasty and they don't wash their hands they just come in and just make your plates I would never buy food from here ever again. Waste of money
For the price I'm impressed, Good portions, bbq beans, potato salad, mac salad, fries, catfish. Everything was okay. Only $20 and enough food for 2 people.
PS I don't know if they read their reviews but of you do.don't put sugar (it just tasted like sugar and mayo) peas or olives in mac salad, add some onion, bell pepper and paprika instead. Don't over mix the potato salad it was more like mashed potatoes. The beans had too much pepper. Put a little cooked bacon to add flavor.
I haven't been down 98th ave in over 35 years it used to be risky for anyone outside the community to go all the way to what was back then a liquor store. 4 guys on each corner drinking 45s kept a close eye on who you were.
Times change, and when I heard the old liquor store was a BBQ joint I had to give it a try, and went home with a tri tip and some sauce.
Glad I did too, it was great.
If you're there on a good day their bbq with the hot sauce is the best but when the old meat is out it's all bets off
The food here is damn good!
The fish is fried just right and like everything else will have you licking ya fingers.
I called ahead and they said they had what I wanted. They didn't. Also the links aren't as good as they used to be.
This place was suggested as a BBQ spot. The female that took my order must have been new. Horrible customer service skills. She tried to short change me. I ordered the Mango habenero wings with a side. The fries were old so I just got the wings. They were decent but instead of 12 I got 11. Since I paid already then asked for just the wings shefirst tried to tell me that they were the same price. Then after I showed her the difference she gave me $2 change. I then had to show her that her math was off and get the rest of my coins. Chicken was okay but customer service was lacking and they shorted me a wing. No worries. Not going to support them anymore.
The tri tip relies heavily on the sauce the meat itself lacked flavor. The potato salad's taste didn't compliment the meal.
Incredible tri-tip sandwiches, moist and tasty chicken. Sides were a little bland, but I'd rather have less salt than too much. Friendly staff and great prices!
The Barbecue is good for store bought, they need to put more sauce on the meat (please), it's very tasty
Sides are awful. Dont ever use cinnamon in your potato salad, these are NOT YAMS. Coleslaw is more mayo than cabbage, cut that down. Main meats are dry with NO bark (Why did you do that?) Flavors for main meat are good and textures ARE soft.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME WANT TO MAKE MY OWN FOOD INSTEAD OF GOING OUT TO EAT.
Take some notes please, when you cook your food go 80% to make sure its not dry, store it in a cool place before reheating it so that you keep your Bark. Was not Worth $35.27
These folks make some great chow, you name it they make it hot and delicious the way you want it. Sam the owner is a great guy who is always in a good mood which is not easy these days, the cook is a very pretty Mexican girl who is very nice and I would marry her tomarrow if she would only say yes. Also it is only one block from my cave, I love that part the most after my girl.
Awesome food the barbecue is great everything they got and everything else vegetables everything awesome I love it been going there for five years
Champion Smokehouse and Market was a recommendation from one of my Facebook friends. It is located in the deep heart of East Oakland. The purpose of my visit was to try their barbecue. My husband and I ordered the two way combo dinner of ribs and links. The two sides were baked beans and potato salad. I also ordered a side of coleslaw. The "cue" and the sides were on point. Our mistake was asking for mild sauce. It was too mild and did not have enough kick. Next time we will order it with medium sauce.
There is a lot of heavy traffic on the main thoroughfare of 98th Avenue. If one is across the street from Champion Smokehouse, one can wait for a while before making a left turn to reach their driveway.
It is also best to go during the day, as the area could be a bit sketchy in the evening. When one is the 'hood of 98th & Edes, please be vigilant of the surroundings. Otherwise, the "cue" is very good and the owner is pleasant and helpful.
