Chapter One Tattoo, San Diego CA

Great experience. The shop has a super cool vibe and the staff were all friendly. I was able to make a same day appointment with a visiting artist from Texas (Sam Frederick). Sam was awesome and she did a great job. Really clean lines and sharp corners on a geometric design. I’d definitely go back and I highly recommend both the shop and Sam!

Sad to say it is a shame to have such poor customer service. Once meeting with the artist Temo, he pretty much acted as if he really didn't care at all that I was there willing to pay anything for the tattoo I wanted. He did not show any effort whatsoever, to try to see if he could work with me. He was very arrogant and dismissive. I saw his portfolio online and was willing to wait and pay anything for my tattoo but the way he treated me was not okay. He seemed annoyed and again did not put any effort into trying to work with me. He might be talented, he most likely does not need my business but he should understand the way you treat people counts. I walked out disappointed and sad by the way I was treated by that one individual in particular.

We drove for a consultation only to be met with a cold and frigid artist that didn't seem to be ready and needed time to collect themselves.
Ontop of that, wasn't willing to even help with the concept of the tattoo, even after sorting these details out via email before making the 100+ mile drive.
The flat fee doesn't seem worth the price when it comes to the dull/lack of customer service that you get.
The shop however was really well kept, pristine, and aestheticaly pleasing!
That was really the only highlight of the trip out there.
I'm sure the other artists are very warm and also very talented, I'd still give them a try, just not with the artist we met.

I had Kenny, who custom designed this hand piece, and oh boy did he deliver! I recently moved to San Diego, and it was overwhelming to find a good tattoo studio. But I spent lots of time researching, and Chapter One Tattoo, and my artist by extension, is definitely the best in town and where you should go!

Dan Collins is amazingly talented and classy. The shop is beautiful with industrial decor. Yes, I already booked my next appointment. I am very lucky that I found this place. Ken is also treasure.

Very beautiful shop, one of the nicest I've been to. Got a tattoo from David Robinson and he's probably one of the coolest guys I've met! Very cooperative and friendly. Make sure you're speaking up about what you WANT and DON'T WANT (don't be scared!), everyone would be happy to change it to something you're looking for, as long as it's their style and not copying somebody else's work (you should know this if you're looking at getting a tattoo) Definitely would come back again!

I had an excellent experience with this tattoo shop, especially with Gary.

I got tattoo'd a few months ago. There were two designs that I wanted to get done, and both turned out exceptional, although a very minor touch up may be necessary in the near future I still have no complaints and they look amazing.

The shop looked very clean, and it had that clean small that people say you're supposed to notice. I sat down, only had to wait a few minutes, and Gary came out, we talked for a bit- super friendly, down to earth guy, very experienced and knowledgeable and cares about his craft deeply.

The process took a fraction of what I expected it to take, and I walked out of there feeling great and with two great looking tattoo's. I was able to follow the instructions given until they had fully healed, and had no issues with the process.

I'll be back for more work! I look forward to it, when all of this coronavirus is over. If you come here, definitely consider working with Gary. His work is exceptional and he makes you feel comfortable, even as a first timer.

I have gotten tattooed by multiple artist at Chapter One Tattoo and have always been very happy with all of their work! This particular review is for Matt, he has done a couple of my most recent pieces and my boyfriends as well and they have been amazing! He has brought to life exactly what we both envisioned.

I was visiting a friend for a week in San Diego and decided I wanted a Tattoo. Personally, I only want great artists tattooing me and and after a bunch of research, Black & Blue is where I landed. I absolutely love my tattoo! Micah was not only a skilled artist, but an incredible person. I highly recommend this amazing establishment to anyone seeking a positive experience.

Hands down the best in the west. Clean sterile equipment. Extremely talented artists and a relaxed atmosphere. I will go NOWHERE ELSE. KENNY "B" YOU ROCK.

Just got my first tattoo with Colton. I am incredibly pleased and I would fly back just to have to continue to support this awesome business.

Beware: Mike cancelled our appointment 3 times! They were kind enough to refund my deposit but it was a complete waste of my time.

Negitiv! My first visit at chapter one to make a appointment for a tattoo, the advisory service don´t gave me the information to be 18 years old! But must pay a advande Payment! I´m from Germany and would like to have a memory from my exchange year. My father was at the appointment also there and allow the tattoo, but the stuff ignored that and don´t gave the advance payment back! The mistake is in the service! They have to ask at the beginning, that´s carelessness and cheating!

Decided to get my first tattoo while visiting San Diego. The friend we were staying with recommended this shop. When I called to make an appointment a guest artist from Baltimore was there at the shop. Since I was visiting from Maryland I knew that was a sign! I was truly impressed with the cleanliness of the shop and the professional staff. Would highly recommend!

Just finished up with Mike, and I'm already scheduling my next appointment. I couldnt have asked for a better artist. This place is awesome and SUPER clean. I watched them set up a few stands and was very impressed. Everyone is friendly and extremely talented. Highly recommended.

Well they messed up my appointment I had to go back in to reset my appointment and then they didn't show up for my appointment what else is there to say

All the artists here are very talented. All my ink and future ink will be from Chapter One! Cash is the man!

Super high quality tattoo shop, was my first time in one and I can't share all the details because it's a secret but I can say it was the best shop after combing through every place in OB this is the cleanest, most professional and just overall a really nice place. It made the whole experience much more relaxing than expected and btw the work was AWESOME.
