Checkmat Temecula BJJ

I've been going to Checkmat for 2 and a half years and it has boosted my self esteem and confidence more than anything else has. I've done other martial arts and nothing has compared to the self defense skills of BJJ. I went only to private classes for the longest time with Helio and Larissa, both extremely patient, humble, and caring. Now I do the women's classes and my husband is trying Muay Thai classes there too. It's making me sweat and work certain muscles to fatigue, and I love it! If you ever want to compete, there's so much potential you can achieve with these guys. I HIGHLY recommend having your kids put into their classes to help develop their motor skills and be able to defend themselves growing up. Also, my dogs have become their unofficial mascots, so if you ever come when I'm there, you might get to see a furry friend.

So many great things to say about Checkmat Temecula and Helio! The instruction is top notch, the facility is clean, and everyone is very welcoming. Whether you are a hobbyist, a competitor, or someone who wants to learn a new martial arts for yourself or kids, I would highly recommend Helio Barthem/Checkmat Temecula!

Checkmat Temecula has been a great experience overall. I’ve sign up late November of this year and professor Helio and the other staff members have been very helpful and supportive to me. I’ve never done any combat sports before in my life and always been nervous/ anxious. The place is very clean and well maintained. Overall I give this place a five star review. And will be continuing my training here as long as possible.

My family and I have been training Jiu Jitsu for over 7 years, we moved from the East Coast hoping to find a family oriented place to train. We found CheckMat Temecula, the first time we walked in the Environment, Professors, Students, Families have been amazing. Fast forward 2 years later we have been found out second home! Out Jiu Jitsu has improved along with life long friends. Highly Recommend!

Checkmat Temecula BJJ is such a great gym. They teach the fundamentals, encourage competition but don’t take it overboard for the kiddos. Whatever level/goal you have for you or your kids, the team will meet you there. Very, very welcoming!

Signing up for jujitsu can be intimidating, but not at this establishment main professor Helio makes you feel welcomed and all the other professors, and students as well regardless of what level belt you are. This place aside from being very clean it’s full of great energy vibes, and lots of great people! I can definitely see my self growing here I have found my Gym, and I will not be going any where else. Shout out to “Marco” was one of the persons that made me feel most welcomed when I first joined. This is the place to be! There's not enough space in the review to say all of the great things about this place. If you are in Jiu-Jitsu even if you're just a little bit curious is the place to learn in a safe helpful environment, even all of the other students are very warm and welcoming. It is as close as you're going to get to a family environment. The kids classes are amazing and all of the adult classes are geared for every level. It is truly a labor of love for all of the professors involved in this establishment.

I’ve been training with professor Helio since 2019 and I have always appreciated his attention to detail in everything he teaches. If you are looking for a professor who is dedicated to his craft, he is the man and this is the place to be.

I was referred to Checkmat Temecula by a friend and colleague. At that time, they were at the old location inside self-made training facility. Once Professor Helio and Professor Lari opens up at their new location it truly felt like home. New faces kept showing up and giving it a try and that's because of word of mouth and how great the training environment is.

From the youth program to the adults everyone there is a friendly face and great training partner. A big part of that is the instructors to the lead professor.
