China Garden reviews
17 I have been trying to find roast duck in the Monterey Bay Area and so far it hasn't been great but this place was unusually bad.
I ordered half a roast duck, what I got was a few pieces of bony stringy duck that tasted like it was roasted a long long time ago and was recently deep fried in rancid oil. It was gross and inedible. I have never felt so ripped off.
Service was bad. Those frozen dumpling was way overpriced. Owner was very rude. They probably know you are visitor and don't care.
The sizzling rice soup is our go to. We enjoyed the fried rice and general chicken. Looking forward to trying more of the menu.
Server lady was drunk so I asked her for some shots and she delivered freaking awesome she old school will be back
The best Chinese food in Monterey! Perfect amount and fair price. Awesome service, very Chinese style.
The worst experience I have seen. The lady was very impatient when wait us. She charged 2 for 2 cup of water without advanced notice. Okay, that’s fine for me. The bill was 31.57 after tax. Then she swiped my credit card for 34.57. I thought the tips was included so I walked away without further tips. The lady yelled at me. We had argument. She cursed us with unacceptable words. I never seen such terrible behavior in my life. Stay away!
Cold and hard rice, stale almonds in the almond chicken, screeching waitress. All-around unpleasant visit and dining experience.
Good food but small portions. Fast service but felt a bit rushed, like they wanted us out of their restaurant as quick as possible. There was still sauce on the serving plate that would have been nice to have on some of our remaining dishes, but alas, she rushed to take it away.
Visiting from out of town. Staff was very nice. Food was delicious. Lots of people visiting the restaurant. Seems to be very popular.
Did not enjoy the food, the crab wontons did not taste fresh, they tasted like Costco frozen wontons or something. Mapo tofu tasted like it was from an instant packet, no numbing or spicy flavor at all.
Also, a big bowl of soup was spilled on me/my table, stained my shirt, etc.the waitress was apologetic but honestly, I would have expected that to be taken off the bill and it wasn’t.
Food and service were not good. The food was just warmed up in a fryer and served with tasteless sauce. The waitress was impatient even though the restaurant was empty. Lunch "specials" were $12.95 and $13.95 and drinks were $3.75 with no refills. I would avoid this place.
Found this place when our first choice was already closed. Decor is a bit well worn, but very clean. Our server was disinfecting tables when we walked in. Our server was very nice. Food came out VERY quick! Like fresh out the wok in five minutes quick. Food was good, but not outstanding for the price.
I would just like to say, I was station in Monterey in 2015, and have lived all over the U. S.since then, and there are no other Chinese restaurants that could compare to this GEM! I don’t understand what they do differently but this restaurant truly will make all the others pitiful. 10/10 strongly recommend!
Stay away. Food is fair. I was with 3 other people and we ordered appetizers, soup and a main dishes. They brought everything together. Said they were closing in 20 minutes. Owners seemed very stressed.
For the first time being here, the food was amazing. (It reminded my family of a better restaurant we had back home that got shut down due to new management.) 10 out of 10 this was amazing.
We did take out, but still nice atmosphere inside, not crowded at all. Food was kind of high priced but food was delicious!
This is out 2nd time here. We had such fond memories of this place the last time, we had to come back. The owner, Katie is very hospitable and makes me feel like home. The Chinese food here can accommodate those who like more Americanized style OR more authentic Northern Chinese style. We will definitely come back to eat when we come back to Monterey!
