Love my Dr. He is awesome. However, this business isn't wheelchair or handicap friendly

I'm almost thinking that the five star reviews have to be paid because the office staff is a joke no one answers the phone even though it says their phone hours are between 8: 00 and 4: 00 with a break at 12: 00 to 1: 00 so somebody should be answering the phone. Haven't been able to get my medicine for 3 weeks because we're waiting on a prior authorization and for some reason we are still waiting for it it should not take this long to get my medicine what in the world is happening why don't you answer your phone or get back to anyone? If there's any kind of supervisor or management reading this please get rid of your staff.

The doctors are great, but one star is for their customer service in patient appointments. I was on hold for half an hour to get an appointment only to be transferred to another person. Phone rang and rang and then finally disconnected. No option to leave a message. I’ve been trying to get a hold of them for two weeks now and no response. This place seriously need some new management.

I must preface my review with Dr. Bansal is amazing. Compassionate, comprehensive, and welcoming.

The staff/office is another story. When I was originally referred to Dr. Bansal, I attempted numerous times over 2-3 weeks to contact the office. I emailed from their website, and I called several times. No one answered my emails, picked up, or returned my calls. I contacted my PCP and let him know what the situation was. He called Dr Bansal personally, and within 2 hours I had a call to set up my first appointment. While in the waiting room, I got to hear everything about the staff's weekend escapades and their family lives. I witnessed them ignoring incoming calls.

Dr. Bansal and I decided to try epidural injections. The first procedure was fine and I had relief for a couple of months when the pain started to creep back, we scheduled a second round. This procedure did nothing to alleviate my pain. I reached out and let them know I was still in a lot of pain. The response was "I'll let the scheduling dept know and they'll contact you". I never heard back from anyone. I should not have to continually attempt to get a response from them, so I terminated my relationship with Dr. Bansal based solely on the staff.

*My records also indicated the incorrect hip was bothering me, and that it received the injection. I mentioned the error several times, and it was never corrected.

**Right after my 2nd injection, the office DID contact me through the portal to schedule my procedure. An additional procedure I did not know of. It took days and multiple messages to get a response back when I asked what the procedure was. When I finally received the response, I was told, "No one told me you already had this".

Coastal Pain & Spinal Diagnostic has an exceptional staff with quality service and compassion for their patients. Specifically, Dr. Yogesh Patel is extremely conscientious, concerned, knowledgeable and thorough in his diagnosis and treatment plans. Your healing, and recovery is his goal without unnecessary delays. You won't be disappointed because respect, integrity, listening ear, and emphasis on practical solutions for healing is the standard.

Dr. Patel is the best pain management doctor around and he has the best staff! He has a conversational way of explaining things and makes sure you really understand the options before proceeding. He is truly invested in his patients’ health. I would recommend Dr. Patel to anyone looking for pain relief!

Coastal Pain and Spinal Diagnostics is a factory, a money mill. They contribute to redefining “health-care” as “illness apathy”; essentially, patient neglect.

My mother, 90 years old, went to Coastal Pain and Spinal Diagnostics as almost a last resort from acute chronic back pain. During 7 months, she had already endured 2 epidurals and Kyphoplasty in her search for relief. MILD (Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression) seemed the most promising approach. She was delayed and delayed approval for coverage by SCAN, her health care provider; so she elected to pay for the procedure from Coastal Pain and Spinal Diagnostics to fast-track relief. This was a big expense for her, but pain knows nothing about constrained resources.

She worked with Dr. Chakravarthy, and was admitted within a week of electing self payment. The procedure was without incident, but the follow-on “lack of” care was unconscionable. She called two days after the procedure to speak with the Doctor, as she was still experiencing pain.

Day after day she called for over a week with no return calls or even a call from their staff to check on her progress. She gave up calling, as her next portal call appointment for follow-up was only two days away. When she logged onto that call and paid the copay online, she was alerted that the doctor would be on shortly. After minutes of waiting, she was informed by the clinic her appointment was rescheduled for the following week. No explanation was offered. She was in pain with no recourse. Still there was no return phone call by the doctor in answer to her pleas.

During her next phone appointment the doctor apologized for the lack of response. He promised to refer her to an orthopedic surgeon as the last resort. This never happened despite, again, continued phone calls in request for referral.

As her son, I sat in the wings to support her, tracking each effort and offering to call on her behalf. She was concerned that if I complained, her treatment by the staff would suffer. This is a common concern by those being underserved in our failed medical industrial system.

When she finally went back to her primary care physician, I called Coastal Pain and Spinal Diagnostics to log my dismay, frustration, and dissatisfaction with their services. I received a call from Dr. Chakravarthy within a couple hours of my call. He expressed his apologies again, blaming the system, and offered continued treatment for my mother. However, in the middle of the call, he cut off the train of thought and said he needed to call me right back. The rest of the day and the entire following into the third day, I have not received a return call. This, despite calling again to alert him that I was still awaiting his suggested approach with my mother. I was not surprised, but, again, disappointed.

If this disfunction, as Doctor Chakravarthy claimed to me, is a result of an overly bureaucratic system (not overworked staff), then it requires people who care enough to make a difference. People devoted to health care and their patients. I’ve witnessed it in pockets. My experience suggests that those people are not employed by Coastal Pain and Spinal Diagnostics. They are working under the thumbs and as instruments of their employers and the insurance companies.

Avoid at all costs!

Dr Bansal has been helping me with my pain management since I moved from Florida, and it's been the best experience. I miss having doctors who care about their patients.

I would highly recommend coastal Pain & Spinal Diagnostic for anyone who is in need of pain management expertise, care, and treatment. Dr. Goodman has continuously provided me with the utmost respect, care, and compassion during all my visits with him. And at the same time, he has used his professionalism, knowledge, and experience to address and help alleviate my chronic spinal pain issues while also providing me with different treatment options. Dr. Goodman and the entire staff continue to always give me very courteous and compassionate service, combined with very timely response to my needs and appointments. Thank you Dr. Goodman, and to all his staff for helping me improve not only the quantity, but the quality of my life!

Very understanding and caring staff, specially Dr Miller, unfortunately sometimes they get overwhelmed with the amount of patients they get, but personally I believe that only points to how good and effective their office is.
About a year ago, I had some trouble getting someone to call me back, so I started emailing them instead, that fixed the problem. Great job Coastal Pain!

I’ve been a patient of Dr Goodman for 1 1/2 years and I must say that some of the reviews disappoint me. I LOVE Coastal Pain and Dr Goodman is and has always been a blessing to my family and me! He even treated my mom prior to her passing. He even called me after business hours to express sympathy and inquire if he could do anything to help! Even now, months later, when my 84 year old dad drives me to a procedure, he asks about my dad, has gone to the waiting room to say hello, and sent my family a sympathy card! Far and above any other doctor in my life!
Now for the details. The staff has always been courteous, and it’s much easier to reach them/Dr G via MyScripps portal! Responses are very quick! I had an epidural a few weeks past, forgot to ask for valium, sent en email, and within an hour he had sent it to the pharmacy! I’ve never had an issue with any staff being rude or disrespectful either.
While most of us are here for issues that will never leave, I fully endorse Dr G and the help he provides!
Don’t hesitate - just see someone! And remember that no human being is perfect yet the Mission Valley office and Dr G do the best they are able to provide!

This review is long overdue. I was referred to Coastal Pain from my primary care provider as I have had multiple fusions and consistently experienced severe pain. I had the pleasure of being introduced to Dr. Goodman. He is a great pain specialist, compassionate, listens, and answers ALL my many questions. I have been seeing multiple Ortho surgeons at the same time and Dr. Goodman has partnered with them to achieve better clinical outcomes. I have had numerous injections/ablations/diagnostic injections performed under Dr. Goodmans care and let me say I WAS NERVOUS at first. He was calming, gentle, talked me through everything and I am no longer anxious going in for a procedure - a testament to his table/bedside manner. As we have been on my diagnostic journey, he has been supportive and my pain is managed better than ever before. I know there are lots of pre-testing / testing required for specific treatments, but it is totally understandable and I appreciate the level of safety/thoroughness.

One more thing to call out - I love using the MyScripps app (EPIC) to communicate updates/questions/appointment requests. His team is extremely responsive, sometimes responding within minutes.

Can’t say enough good things about Dr. Goodman, his staff, and his expertise in managing/diagnosing pain. Highly recommend.

This is a terrible organization. They never answer the phone. They do not return messages. I felt I needed to prove to Dr. Goodman that I have neurapathy pain regardless of my surgery history. I asked the nurse to address Dr. Goodman I needed a refill of Lyrica before and after my appointment, I never got a refill sent. You will beat your head against the wall with this place. Terrible terrible experiences. They are not there to help you, but to rule you out. Thank GOD I found a new doctor that actually listens to me and has some compassion. You wont get that at Coastal. Thumbs down!
