This was my first time to this trial. Weather was perfect for the atmosphere, Eerie! Trails pretty much trash free, that's a plus. Trail that leads to the other side of Cobb Estate, as you pass what I believe is a water reserve tank, is pretty narrow and grown, not to mention a little steep incline but doable. I recommend that one go in a group or at least with one other person, and NOT SOLO.
With that said, have an enjoyable and safe hike.

Trailhead to Echo mountain and the historic tram station. Ambitious hikers can continue upward to Mt Wilson Observatory or head out to Millard camp to the west.

This trail would theoretically be great, but the general sketchiness of Altadena has affected it. Lots of graffiti on the trail. And when you legally park on the street near the trail, the sketchy residents of Altadena will illegally and antisocially mess with your car. Not recommended.

Growing up in pasadena was great especially if u were a kid.this trail head held a particular fascination for the locals.located at the top of Lake Ave we called this the haunted forest.back in the late 1970's we would here to party at nite. Never had any issues with the police or other individuals back then.we never really wondered what this area really was and didn't care.some great memories here. It is the gateway to the san gabriel mountains there used to be a railway that would take visitors up to Mount Lowe back In the day

The hike to Echo Mountain is 2.5 miles one way. You can run it to make it more challenging, but you increase your chances of injury due to the terrain.

Hike to Echo Mountain is moderate. Best time is early morning since it faces west most of the time. It's 2.5 miles and about 1500 feet of elevation gain. You can head to inspiration point via the steep Castle Canyon trail which is 1.8 miles and about 1400 feet gain or you can take middle Sam Merrill which is longer at 2.5 miles and same elevation gain of course. You could also do a loop. My recommendation is to go up Castle Canyon and down Merrill.

They should let people park in here. That's generally the point of the trailhead. It's not a parking lot and parking is questionable outside the gate.

This was a cool trail. Just bring lots of water it's a good hike to white city ruins. The parking is a trip cus I'm not sure if the neighborhood is cool with people parking on their street.

Love this trailhead despite it being such a hot spot. Pay attention to parking signs and be respectful of neighbors. Residential street parking. Pack in in, pack it out. LEAVE NO TRACE!

Great hike. 5+ miles out and back. Cool ruins of old buildings and rails. Neat echo phone. Beautiful views when not foggy.

Went on a cloudy day but I love it. I was lucky enough to get street parking near the trailhead. Started at 4pm and be back around 6pm. It wasn’t dark yet.

I went up to echo mountain (was about 5.something miles). I consider myself beginner and the trail was quite easy to hike. There were quite a few other groups walking very close to us.

A lot of signs when you reach the echo mountain picnic area. Next time I hope to make it to inspiration point.

It was great, go early so the heat don’t get you, if you have a dog bring lots of water and rest as much as you can enjoy the trails

Hiked to the hotel ruins and on to Inspiration Point on 5/7, it was a beautiful day. Lots of flowers and birds dramatic clouds at higher elevation. This is a very popular hike (to the hotel anyway), so go early to avoid the heat of the day and expect a lot of other people.

Great walk up to Echo ruins. A bit narrow some spots. But top spectacular. Options to keep going a ways.

I really like this place for trekking or hiking since it connects with other trails. The only thing is that there are no public bathrooms and that is not very hygienic for visitors or for the mountains.
