Continental Gourmet Market - Hawthorne reviews
8I would show you the sandwich, but I ate it lol its a good little market spot to get some good empanadas and sandwiches. Love this place
We love the empanadas. We tried three flavors so far. The spinach is juicy and very tasty. The spicy beef and chicken are flavorful, though the spicy beef is very spicy, yummy and satisfying. There are also spicy chicken and regular beef.
Got a variety of empanadas, the spicy beef was my favorite, followed by the chicken, then spinach. It was my breakfast and lunch today, the empanadas were hot and freshly baked. They were baked because they were not greasy, the fillings were nice and hot with good flavors. I had the opportunity last week to meet the owners, all very friendly and dedicated to their products. Today I was there for another aspect of work from the week before. What a treat to have their empanadas and see the store and the products carried in their store. Definitely a place I'll stop by again to get another box of empanadas.
I am sorry to say this, but the empanadas were not what i expected. The dough is too soft, not crunchy, it's thin and not hearty. The fillings were alright. I am still looking for an empanada with a crumbly, hearty crust. I make my own, but takes too much time.
My local market. Always clean.good selection of meats, fruits and vegetables. Employees always helpful and polite. No complaints
I ordered a small sandwich ($6.99) and I'll have to say that the roll that they made my sandwich was by far the best I've had in probably 20+ years! Definitely recommend the roll, the sandwich was good and tasty too. The meat on the other hand was paper thin and really took away from what could of been an outstanding sandwich.
Came in on a Weds. The service was very sociable and kind. The bill was good for how much you get.
Located on Prairie Avenue in Hawthorne, Continental Gourmet Market had the distinction of hosting Food Network host Alton Brown, who drove across the country on a motorcycle to try their renowned empanadas.
Apparently, they’re as good as everyone says they are. Unlike their Mexican counterparts, they’re made with Latin American spices, ingredients, and recipes that keep hungry customers coming back time and time again.
The market specializes in specialty foods from Argentina, Chile, and Peru. They also operate a thriving catering business and a huge variety of takeout grub, like gourmet sandwiches, homemade soup, and traditional South American BBQ.
