Many reviews are based on the surfing school, but not many mention that you can also "rent" a wetsuits and board at the spot. The location at tower 18 is a great spot for beginners. I started my surfing journey at Corky's with my kids and still am in love with this sport. The instructors are great and do their best to make the first contact with this amazing sport an incredible experience for everyone. After renting equipment 5 times, we decided to own our own wetsuit and boards - thank you Corky Caroll team you got a new rookie surfer at Bolsa Chica state beach now.

Great school for beginners and re-beginners! Easy to schedule, good prices, very easy to find them at Huntington Beach. Charlie was our guide/instructor and he was awesome! Very knowledgeable and extremely helpful giving pointers.

Corky Carroll’s Surf is the best! Every summer when I visit from AZ I book surf lessons for the kids and rent a board for me. They are located at Bolsa Chica State Beach which is a great place for beginners and us old dudes who like to ride a smaller wave that have a nice shoulder. Parking is easy, $15 for the day and easy to find a spot right at their container shop. Keith and Mark make you feel like locals and are always willing to help you out with any gear you need. Whether you are sending your kids to surf school, private lessons, or just renting a board and wetsuit for the morning. Corky Carroll’s is the best.

My husband learned how to surf with the school almost 30 years ago! We recently put our five-year-old in a private two hour lesson and he loved it! The teacher, Axel, was very patient and Really knew what to do to help our son get up. Our boy was very nervous at first but quickly became comfortable with his help. He absolutely loved it and had so much fun! Highlight of our beach vacation trip.

When I told my son I signed him up for surf camp, he was scared and didn't want to go. By the end of the first day, he had stood up on the board and was so excited for the next day. He made a group of friends and loved the instructors. He asked to do two weeks of camp next summer! Good experience!

Fun instructor with small waves for the best experience surfing for all ages, between tower 18 and 19 Bosla Chica State - Huntington Beach

My kids ages 11,15 and 18 took a two hour lesson with two instructors. After two weeks vacation traveling all over California this was their favorite activity by far! All the instructors were so patient, encouraging and friendly. My kids were standing surfing within minutes. These instructors were working so hard to give my kids a great experience and had smiles on their faces the entire time! Great experience and I would definitely recommend Corky Carroll’s!

My friend and I had a wonderful time at Corky Carrolls. The staff was super welcoming, friendly and very patient. They even shared extra doughnuts w us after the lesson which hit the spot!

If you're an adult learner who is serious about learning, I recommend that you find a professional surf instructor for better use of your money. If you're a parent, beware, the instructors here have bragged to me about slacking off and not paying attention to the summer camp kids, and ignoring their parents' complaints.

I had booked 3 lessons from this place; their instructors are mostly high school kids or young early 20s guys that the owner randomly met around the beach. As one of the instructors proudly told me, they pretty much will hire anybody who claims to know how to surf. You never know which instructor you'll get, and as such, your experience will vary greatly. I had pretty good experience with my first instructor; unfortunately, I ran into the same awful instructor for my 2nd and 3rd session who was downright mean - he not only kept on pushing me downward to make me face-plant into the ocean on the waves (he'd apologize every time to say it's his fault and then do it again and laugh), he also ridiculed me, called me a slow reactor (when he literally doesn't teach me when to pop up from the waves), got frustrated with me for no apparent reason, and for my last lesson with him, he just grabbed his own surfboard and left me alone the entire time. I reported this to the owner of this school, who apologized and promised me a free session, but when I followed up, he completely ghosted me.

I had since found professional surf coaches who teaches surfing for a living, and saw myself improve drastically. It's a completely night and day difference between surf schools ran by actual teachers rather than immature young men who are just here working summer jobs or side gigs. I think this place might work if you're just trying out surfing for the first time and want nothing too serious, and don't mind the bad inconsistent teaching qualities.personally, I was hoping to really learn the sport and I really felt I wasted my money here. I'm in a few adult beginner surf group chats and I have never recommended this place to anyone who asked for surf instruction referrals.

I couldn't be happier with the experience I received taking a private lesson with Corky Carroll's Surf School while I was in town. The entire lesson was tailored to meeting me where I was, helping me experience success, and, of course, having fun. The knowledge of my instructor, Hunter, was tremendous and I thoroughly enjoyed the way he taught me. Anytime I'm nearby I'll be back!

I would highly recommend a surfing lesson here. My kids did a lesson and were getting up on the board just after a couple try’s! The instructors were amazing! They were very patient and great teachers. My kids had so much fun and are still talking about it!
