Cosmopolitan Hotel and Restaurant reviews
20Love this place! Takes you back in time, the rooms are comfortable and the gardens are beautiful!
If you are looking for a 5 star hotel with all the amenities.this place is not for you. If you are looking for history this is a wonderful place to go back in time. No TV's, but there is wifi if you absolutely need your electronics. I love staying at this hotel. It's just peaceful, just sitting outside our door on the balcony.it's just perfect. I love the history and stories this place holds. The staff is so nice and so knowledgeable about the property and town. We will definitely stay again!
We stayed in room 2 last night. I can't wait to go back! The room was clean and comfortable. Dee was super friendly and knowledgeable. And the location is fantastic. It's close to the restaurants and bars, but in the state park, so quiet at night. I recommend The Cosmopolitan, for sure.
Strong smell of mold in the rooms, rust in the sink, mold in the shower. Bad breakfast, not recommended.
In "Booking" it is 4 stars hotel. In reality it us hardly 2 stars.
With most of our guests visiting San Diego from out of town, we wanted to have a wedding weekend welcome party in a San Diego hot spot - Old Town. We originally had our sights set on Barra Barra, however - in connecting with Lisa, she lead us in the perfect direction to hold our special event in the courtyard of The Cosmopolitan. Lisa was incredibly kind and patient through multiple postponements from the start of planning our event in early 2019 to finally celebrating July 2,2022. Our guests found the party to be such a treat - great atmosphere, food, music and drinks. Thank you to Lisa and her team for coordinating a special evening to welcome our wedding guests to San Diego!
The Cosmopolitan Hotel was a fun experience. It was like stepping back in time. The rooms give you the feel of what it may have been like to stay at a hotel in the late 1800’s but with modern day amenities. The staff obviously love their job and it showed in his interaction with guests. Very fun experience, my wife and I enjoyed it very much.
Amazing! Beautiful hotel! Clean! Dee was such a great host very sweet guy! Lots of history, great location! Almost in the middle of old Town! We will definitely be back again and again! Didn't see a ghost this time lol
Was closed when we got there, would have been nice to update website saying that restaurant is not open.
Robin was amazing! The rooms were clean and comfy. Just remember this is a really old hotel, so floors have polish on them (if you wipe up a spill it’s black) and not a lot of outlets. But great experience! Thank you Robin for your help with dinner!
Throwback rooms are a change of pace in these time. Location is nice off the beaten path. The patio is great with nice bar.
I had a room here last Halloween and it was awesome. The room was super nice and retro even though the whole hotel is supposedly haunted. Cool piece of San Diego history
A very unique hotel with a historical theme. The room was small but that, along with no TV, simply contributes to its authenticity. I couldn't help but feel what it might be like in the 1700's. The furnishings, like the claw tub are well designed. It was clean and very comfortable. The bed was exceptionally comfy. The checkin was simple are trusting (no deposit), and they leave you alone. They serve a simple breakfast on the long balcony with individual tables outside your door.
It is a time machine!
Authentic historic place.
Highly recommend to visit once you are in San Diego!
5 Stars for location - it's in historic San Diego and the hotel itself is historic. Rooms are dated as such, but that is part of the experience.
1 Star for service - VERY understaffed. Called front desk 5 times with no answer. Got locked out of my room and had to wait out in the cold for 20 minutes before I was able to reach someone.
0 stars for false advertising - bar/restaurant was closed, which was a main reason I booked here. I picked the room with the fireplace only to find out it was a fake. Could have paid the same price for a balcony and people watched. Bedding was super cheap, walmart cheap.
Love everything about this place. Killer hot spot restaurants to great counter bites (2nd floor) to amazing Chandler and Bar. Love our Boulevard room with sick view will be back.
Wow, this is probably the most unique Hotel I've ever been to, the atmosphere is like non other. The room smells and feels like an old antique shop, it's super charming and offers Ghost tours if you are feeling adventurous! D is a great manager and knows everything down to the T, very Informative and kind:)
Make sure to read the journals left in the rooms of people's experiences there, they are dated all the way back to 2010, over a decade of peoples room experiences! Was crazy to read them all!
Just book it, it's worth it.
Wonderful experience. Pine tub and high pressure water shower were amazing. Parking is convenient enough. Stupendously friendly staff at check in and breakfast. I love historically significant places and it was a delightful stay. Beds are a tad firm, but comfortable. Wish more of the grounds were open when I stayed in 2020.
They left coffee and breakfast foods outside our door on the balcony. A perfect place to sit and watch the birds and people down below! Dee Carey, the Manager was wonderful and welcoming. Apparently this place is haunted!? No ghosts discovered by me. Lovely old-timer Western vibes. Planning to return next time I'm in San Diego!
Authentic and historic, this hotel was full of old charm. As long as you're tolerant of doors not closing all the way (unless dead-bolted) and sloped hardwood floors that creak, it's a fun place.
Stayed at the Cosmopolitan for a date night. Service was the best Robin took such good care of us. Met us at the front gate got our keys, and I mean real metal keys.soo cool.checked us in. Once we got into our room. Views of Old Town San Diego are amazing from the balcony. Mind you, the room have no TV, no wifi, so in you are looking to uplugg in the city, this is THE SPOT. You are at the center of it all. Definitely staying again. Oh yeah, it haunted. Must stay.
