Cotijas Taco Shop reviews
14 Service and atmosphere are fine.
Portions and quality have gone down hill. I mean way down hill. Prices are on the more expensive side for SD taco shops, and the burritos are some of the smallest I’ve seen.
Disappointing because it used to be my favorite shop. Won’t be returning.
Anyone that likes this place does not know what a good taco shop is. Terrible. I wish I had more hands so I could give this place 10 thumbs down.
Have to say.this could be the worst cotijas I've been too. I've been to many throughout SD and my belief here is that they are cutting corners and serving some pretty lousy quality food. Nice patio.but the food just doesn't measure up. Go elsewhere.
I recently dined at Cotijas on Navajo Rd and had mixed feelings about the experience. The restaurant had a simple and clean ambiance, emphasizing a no-frills atmosphere.
For my meal, I ordered the #7 Breakfast burrito with hash browns, egg, cheese, and sour cream. Unfortunately, the presentation was disappointing, as all the ingredients were chopped up and mashed together, making it unappealing. The burrito's small size didn't justify its $11 price tag, and the taste fell short as well. The ingredients failed to stand out, leaving the burrito to taste like a bland mush.
Additionally, the portion sizes were inadequate for the price, and the value for money was not satisfying. On the positive side, I also tried their small bean and cheese burrito offered on Sundays for $2.89. Although it was tiny, the beans were excellent, and the red sauce added a delightful flavor to the otherwise lackluster meal.
Cotijas does have a unique dish, the Cali Surf and Turf, which I noticed being served to another table. It looked massive and reasonably priced at $14+. However, I didn't try it myself.
In terms of improvements, I would recommend leaving the ingredients in their distinct forms rather than mashing them together. Adding more sausage to the breakfast burrito would also enhance its taste and value.
Overall, my dining experience at Cotijas on Navajo Rd was below average, and I would rate it a 2.5 out of 5. While the friendly staff and the red sauce were highlights, the lackluster breakfast burrito and small portions were significant drawbacks.
The staff was friendly and courteous, which made the dining experience slightly better.
The guacamole was horrible taste, horrible look (if you can name it like that) because that did not look like guacamole at all. Big disappointed!

I got 2 things at cotijas… Carne asada fries, or a hash brown burrito The hash brown burritos were honestly the only thing that kept me and my friends going back for years though. I do keep hearing that quality has gone down a lot, and that sucks.
Food is good and the service has been fast and friendly for takeout. I’m not sure why the negative reviews. I’ve only done takeout here but it has space for eating and looks like a good place to hang out and eat. Surf and turf is very good
I regret not reading the previous comments about the guac but somebody wrote that it’s like green toothpaste and I second that.
I have been going to this place for 20+ years. Every time I am in San deigo I stop here to eat. My grandmother used to live down the street when I was a kid, so I have eaten here alot. Over the years this place has been consistently good. It is clean, good customer service, in a nice neighborhood, and great classic taquaria food. Carne asada fries, Cali and asada burritos are the go to. You can't go wrong.
Guacamole was like toothpaste. The food was awful. Paid $27 and ended up eating frozen pizza from Trader Joe’s.
I like how you can switch thing and the price stays the same, I switch out a good amount on a surf and turf and it was the same Price
Not real rolled tacos.
I don't know what was on top.but no good.
That is not guacamole.
And the cheese stuck together like plastic.
I ordered a cheese quesadilla, and it was amazing after hiking Cowles Mountain. I also left my phone, and they were nice enough to bring it inside and save it for me.
I had a pretty good run here. Great food, friendly people.
But I have now stopped going there for one reason.prices.
They have raised prices to the point where I may as well eat in a restaurant.
I realize it might be costing them more to get food supplies, but I just can't afford to eat here anymore.
I got 4 items and it was $35. I couldn't believe it.
Oh well, I wish them luck
