6Excellent place for a walk recommended to go with your partner or family
Moderate hike with some beautiful pandemic views! Did the hike up to Cowles Mountain (2.8 miles round trip) and then over to Pyles Peak Summit (made it 5.6 miles round trip). I'd plan 90-100 minutes for the round trip to Cowles Mt (~45 minutes up, ~45 minutes down, and 10-20 minutes on top). Took us 2 hrs 30 minutes for a round trip to Pyles Peak Summit while spending 10 minutes at both Cowles Mt and Pyles Peak Summit.
Did the hike on a Friday morning and was not busy. Really nice moderate hike, recommend when you're in San Diego!
A very nice and challenging trail. Not for beginners. I walked 7.3 miles, and would recommend bringing lots of water and hiking sticks for people that have a hard time walking up and down hills and crossing over rocks. There were some diamond back snakes as well, but they didn't look too big. I recommend 10/10.
I hike the backside of Cowles every other day. It's total body conditioning and it's beautiful out there!
Dangerous for the dogs. Rattlesnakes and heats. Lady got overheated and Rocky got bites. Not recommended to bring the dogs.) :
It's really easy and you won't regret the hike when you get to the top.
