Dandelion Chocolate 16th Street Factory reviews
16Took the chocolate tempering class (2 hours) and would highly recommend it! We learned so much from Stephen, the instructor, who was so knowledgable and passionate about properly tempering with chocolate. We have plans to start tempering chocolate and making bars at home! And we already want to take another class at Dandelion with Stephen)
Took the tour, and I highly recommend! They really care about the quality of the chocolate, and getting to see the behind-the-scenes was so neat! Our guide was so friendly and informative. I loved the free beverage that came with the price of the ticket. I had the cacao fruit smoothie, and it was one of the most delicious and unique smoothies I’ve ever had! All the samples we got were to die for. I will definitely be back next time I’m in SF!
Let me be utterly honest and clear.
The place looks great.
The staff is friendly.
The so called european hot chocolate is complete dog water:
— Pricey ($8.5 + tip)
— Premade? (took 10 sec to pour it in)
— Too much sugar
— Watery and muddy
— Served in a one time cup (I never asked for to go)
— Weird sour after taste
Just compare it side by side with the one I used to have in Barcelona for €2.
People who rate Dandelion so high obviously have never been to Europe nor tried a real chocolate.
A classy chocolate factory, feels classic and industrial but very much clean, modern and warm. Houses production for some of what I think is the best chocolate in the world. It's amazing what they do with two ingredients - bean and sugar, and are are able to tease out complex flavour variations with their process. Tactfully, there are small samples that you can try on the shelves with tongs to see which single origin chocolate might tickle your fancy. They also serve some cafe items, a range of chocolate themed drinks (horchata, frozen hot chocolate) and a great mix of snacks - don't go past the chocolate caneles with their crisp shell and spongey chocolate interior, smores are a good choice too. You can also do tours and classes at this location, I have not but one day I'll be back and schedule something in. For any real chocolate lovers, a must visit institution in San Francisco.
The place is nice. The store part is very small. They allow you to sample their chocolate bars self service so you can pick your bar with confidence. The location & the staff person who served me is the reason for the lower stars. They weren't helpful, and seemed eager to get me out of the door. It's better to go to the other branches if you are going only for the store
I got a frozen cocoa amd tasted all the different I like the Ugandan one the best its fruity!
An exceptional place!
I’ve got a chance to go on excursion tour in this chocolate factory, and it was just amazing! The cafe is great, the chocolate they make is mind blowing, the interiors are fabulous!
Guys, thank you for everything you’re doing
Absolutely amazing. Best cappuccino of my life. Had the brownie tasting platter, which was great! No wait either. Great for dessert and coffee
Just amazing! The place is beautiful, the S'more and chocolate are delicious, and the employees are so friendly! Thank you!
We love coming to dandelion chocolate place everytime we are in SF. Absolutely love their chocolates and European hot chocolate drink. The chocolate cake with buttercream was nice but I'm not a fan of buttercream icing. It might have been better at room temperature.
Overall, do stop by if you're in SF.
You can sign up for a factory tour on their website which takes about an hour, includes tasting some of their awesome chocolate along the tour and ends up with a drink in their nice cafe.
Got first hand knowledge about making chocolate and amazed to know that chocolates have no expiry date!
To be fair, this really doesn’t deserve two stars (maybe it’s a three) but I feel like I’ve got to balance the ridiculously inflated overall rating of this place. I’m a big-time chocolate lover so I was pumped to go here. We bought six items and I really didn’t care for any of them. The frosting on the chocolate cake tasted like pure butter. It was almost un-eatable before scraping off the frosting. The brownie was a mush. The cookie lacked flavor and was dry. The pastry wasn’t flaky. They might have quality chocolate but they’re not doing much with it.
Factory tour is worth it. Very fun and informative. Tour guide was expert chocolate maker with obvious passion for subject. Includes tastings all along chocolate production process.
Recommend street parking near factory if driving.
I come back here all the time. Staff is sweet, hot cocoa is amazing and sampling experience is so fun!
