Soul of a Lion

I just tried DAOU ‘Soul of a Lion’ for the first time. “It’s like a 1,000 angels were dancing on my tongue”

Absolutely delicious-my new favorite wine. Looking forward to the next bottle.

We didn't have a reservation but Katie made sure we had the best experience. Excellent stories with each flight. Excellent walk of each wine, a story and description of how the wines were made. The view is great, but we sat at the bar

Wine Tasting Series, Part 2

The DAOU Family Estates is located in the hills overlooking much of the Paso Robles Wine Country and if you’re seeking an upscale wine tasting experience, this place certainly deserves your consideration.

The grounds are situated at an elevation of 2,200 feet, making it the highest winery on the California Central Coast.

A wine tasting here costs $50 and includes 6 different samplings including a Rose, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, but sparkling options are not offered.

For those of you participating in the wine tasting experience, minus the wine, your options are limited to only the complimentary water they provide.

There are several quality culinary pairings available and we found the Cheese & Charcuterie Board, coupled with a Baguette, to further accentuate the experience.

Even mid-week this place is busy, so we’d highly recommend making a reservation.

There are wonderful indoor and outdoor seating opportunities and the views to the valley below are majestic and create an outstanding ambiance.

Finally, our “Wine Educator” demonstrated considerable knowledgeable of the wines available, as well as the winery itself, and provided outstanding service.

And that’s…Henry Take.

A commercialized winery with a great view. $50 per tasting is pretty expensive, especially for Paso Robles. The quality of wine is inferior to say Frog's Leap in Napa, which also is a dry farmed vineyard. A tip is to book reservation for only 1 person, and take the whole group up for just the views.

Tourist trap. Apparently the money all went to furniture and space and the Instagramable installation. Wines are forgettable (Robert Parker might have liked idk). One of the highest tasting fees in Paso. NOT FOR SERIOUS wine lover/drinker/collector/enthusiast. If you don’t like Parker style wine, don’t like touristy corporate trap, steer clear. Great view though. One star for the view, one star for the facility. One star for the house cat who is very adorable.

Enjoyed some great wines and food, and the view was the best I’ve seen from the 20+ vineyards we’ve visited in PR. The pricing of the tasting ($50 each) and the wines was quite expensive, and the level of purchase required to get the tastings comped was steep too. We have enjoyed Paso as a less expensive, less pretentious wine country, and this pricing model didn’t really fit what we’ve seen elsewhere. We justified the tasting fee as the price of admission for the view.

Yosh was exemplary on Wednesday, October 20th. He was very knowledgeable, charismatic, and very attentive. He provided us with excellent service during our visit and made us feel very special. I would come again to taste the amazing selection of wine but most importantly for being able to be attended by the amazing service provided by yosh. Thank you Duao vineyards!

Happy Fall. Y'all. Louie, the PBGV. Since I was a baby in 2015, I have traveled with my Mom and Dad to Paso Robles wineries for wine tasting. I love going to all these places, seeing people, getting lots of attention.

Today, we visited, DAOU Winery. It was high on the mountain with spectacular views, lizards, kitties, little kids wanting kisses, and an awesome charcuterie tray. Mom and Dad loved it. I did too! Josh, our wine server was the best we have ever had!

Can't beat the views and the atmosphere. The wine educator was very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. My husband and I ordered the lamb-stuffed grape leaves and thoroughly enjoyed them! Unfortunately, the parking was limited. Also, we paid $100 for one of the bottles and found the same exact bottle/year at a local retailer for $45. The experience was fantastic, I just wish the bottles weren't overpriced.

The most beautiful winery in Paso- by far! Great wine- excellent service. This is a must if you are in Paso. HIGHLY recommend spending the $$ to try Patrimony- and then even more $$$$ for the bottle!

Beautiful vista from top of hill overlooking vineyards. Tasting experience outdoors served up with tasty appetizers accompanying wine pairings by a knowledgeable sommelier.

I love the daou wines and we had a great tasting experience. Wish there were more of the non standard wines available for tasting.

Our party of four had a great Jeep excursion with Will, who took us around the property and shared stories of the Daou Estate. After our wine tasting and charcuterie board were fantastic. Highly recommend!

The place is beautiful-however-thé bottles we purchased at the estate were almost 3X what we could buy them for online. The tablet suggested a ´gratuity’ of 20% on the ENTIRE purchase, not just the tasting. All in all about triple the cost of the value we received. It felt like a shakedown and the service was dismissive and inattentive.

Pretty spot, for sure. Great views. Some wines were nice. Only two stalls in the women's restroom and one was out of order. Not ideal. Thankfully I went at a slower time.
