Since be beginning our main point of contact seemed it was doing us a favor. Communication was weird, emails with no subject, no proactive reach out to close the month, and bear in mind we were low maintenance and extremely organized. In December and they said they were not interested in working with us anymore. I'm glad I was already looking for alternatives. Never again and will not recommend Dark horse to any other founder.

After working with a Dark Horse principal for 3 years, I can share my experience in hopes that it will stop some people from losing tens of thousands of dollars and countless hours trying to get the money back.

We used a Dark Horse CPA for tax advice, tax return preparation, and monthly bookkeeping for our small business. The charge for this was monthly.

Year 1 seemed ok - we got lots of advice and face time with our "professional". He didn't know all the answers to our questions but always was able to get help from others. After filing our tax return, we found a deduction that could have been used - but was missed by our principal. So we paid thousands extra to have our returns amended and re-submitted.

We also ended up having to double pay 5 figures in taxes due to the principal's error in submitting a form to our payroll provider (wrong EIN). The principal has not recovered this money for us - and we are no longer able to figure out where it is as the principal abandoned us (see below).

Year 2 was not as great - we got limited advice and bookkeeping help. We kept having to ask for the bookkeeping to be done - even though we paid for it monthly. We also ended up with another major tax deduction missed by our principal on our return. This one cost us even more money in overpaid taxes. AND they raised our fees by 12.5%.

Year 3 we challenged our principal to take advantage of these deductions. He pleasantly informed us that we no longer pay for
"tax advisory services" - even though they were in our initial agreement. They were removed in the new agreement - which was more expensive. We acknowledge this is our mistake as we did not inspect the agreement.be warned - they charged us more money for less service in year 2 - so please review your contract to make sure the same services are in there if you decide to work with them.

To top all of this off, we left a negative review of our principal, and his reaction was to simply end our engagement. No apologies or attempt at extra effort to help remedy the problems he caused and the tax problems he created for us in the future.

Dark Horse = worst accounting firm I have ever worked with in my life. Save yourself the headaches and go literally ANYWHERE else.

My colleague told you we will provide reviews when she complained about the bad service you provided to us and your people said they don't care, and now you say it's spam?

I need to be straight up about this - working with this accounting firm was a big letdown. We lost a ton of money because of mistakes that should never have happened, like getting our company's EIN wrong on official paperwork. That mess cost us big in taxes and fees.

They also played around with the contract terms on us. When it was time to renew, we suddenly saw higher prices for less service. They basically cut what they were doing for us but expected more money. That's on me, though; I should've been more careful and not just trusted them to look out for us.

The real kicker was how they handled our questions. When we asked why we weren't getting certain tax breaks, their attitude was pretty much "take a hike" - totally unprofessional. And when we actually had issues with the work they were doing, they just bailed on us. They were already three months late with the regular bookkeeping stuff, even though we paid them for it.

So, take my advice: read all the negative reviews you can find on these guys and think twice before you go with them. I sure wish I did.

I have worked with Craig Trimble out of the Ponte Vedra branch for the past two years. The service and accuracy he provides are exceptional. I used to do my taxes, but things got complicated, so I hired Craig, who uncomplicated everything for me, provided advice on managing different business entities, and met every challenge. Besides saving me thousands of dollars in taxes, the most important thing to me is that he is genuinely nice. He returns calls, is always professional, and my account is essential to him. I started this arrangement during COVID when nobody met in person. He still maintains an active calendar which I can schedule through his email. Everything about this relationship has been effortless. I am happy to have worked with Craig and look forward to the years ahead.

It was off to a rough start but then I received a phone call expressing there concerns on how I was treated from the start they rectified the situation connected me to Mike Madden who is attentive explains thoroughly and in depth anything questions or concerns. Mike Madden definitely saved the day he has great customer service skills, great attitude, and his professionalism and assurance on getting our taxes filed accordingly and on time changed my whole out look on dark horse and lifted huge weight off my shoulders.

These people just did not do what we hired them to help us with and not only was communication and clarity substandard we were disappointed, and felt they spoke unprofessionally, with inconsistencies. The agents with this company we dealt with, in our experience, were unreliable and lacked dedication. Do some shopping around before contacting this company. Now we have to find a CPA and start all over. Disillusioning, frustrating and a time's waste. Names unmentioned but this is the correct business for our review. Maybe the next valued "client" will have a better experience.
