How does this place stay in business? Customer service is nonexistent and it was a total waste of my time. Believe me, there are choices in Davis and my money will go elsewhere.

This is my my go to bike shop. I've been getting my bike serviced for about 3 years including my years as a student, using my bike as my main commuter. Jake is an honest upfront mechanic with lots of years of experience under his belt including bike customizations. I do not feel like i am being up sold. I felt as if he cared for my bike as if it were his own. Go here if you want a shop that cares about the quality work on the customers bike

I went in to get my gear checked because the rain really messed up my bike. And because of the rain, my bike also got super gross and dirty, so I thought the workers would be grossed out by it. But they didn't care and told me that they had seen worse. The staff was super friendly, and I got my biked fixed by the end of the day.

Scammer. Went to this guy for an ebike repair on my cranks/ pedals.this man tried charging me $160 and the bike shop across the street only charged me $30 for the entire service plus labor. Dont come here, this guy will try to take advantage of you if he sees you with a decent looking bike

Got front tire and tube replaced, went flat the next day and was not offered any sort of replacement or discount for another tube replacement.

I knew nothing about bikes at all, but my girlfriend and I wanted to buy some cruisers. We walked in and saw the huge selection and knew this was the place. Again, we don't have experience, so the employee took the time to explain everything, which I appreciate. He setup our bikes and the car mount for us. Very good experience.

Went to buy tubes with Schrader valves. Purchased two. Realized that the tube would not fit in a Spezialized rim. Went to return UNOPENED package 1 hour after purchase, with receipt in hand. Store clerk who sold the tubes 1 hour earlier would not process the return. "Bring the bike in" he said, "I'm sure this tube fits" he said. Ultimately had to go to a different store to find the right tube.

Two lessons:

(1) Some Specialized bikes's rims have nonstandard Schrader valves that have a fully threaded stem. A regular Schrader valve is partially threaded and will not go through the hole in the rim

AND

(2) Don't go to Davis Cyclery ever again.

Enjoy the selection and reasonable prices. My daughter picked a bike for school. She is so happy and satisfied. Service is great. Nelson is very helpful and made everything so easy. Highly recommended

Went in to purchase a bike for my daughter. Wide selection when you first walk in. Nelson was nice at first. When I told him we are shopping around in the area and will come back if we don't see anything else. Gave me a disgruntled look and I just shrugged it off no big deal. When my daughter and I left he yelled from behind the counter "Don't come back in here N*****! ". I was extremely speechless leaving because I am a white guy with red hair and a red beard.

Dude who runs the place has tried to upsell me to unnecessary stuff every time I have ever walked into the store. If you’re shopping here know exactly what you want. Cheap bikes that are overpriced. Service is okay.

Overall okay if you’re in a tight spot but I prefer Freewheeler just on the other side of the block.

I've had nothing but positive experiences here. I went with my partner a year ago and she got an excellent bike that fits her perfectly. When the tube in the tire popped, they fixed it up quickly and for cheap. I bought myself a bike recently and am so far very happy with the quality of it. The workers were helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Would definitely buy a bike here again

They lied to me about the estimated price of a repair and ended up charging me $250 when they estimated it would cost ~$100. Plenty of other bike shops in Davis, avoid these scam artists

They did a great job fixing my bike. Don't listen to some Karen's giving bad reviews. They'll probably give a bad review to Mother Theresa.

I took my bike in and was quoted 100$ for the work. I went to pick it up and was told that I owed 250 (no extra work needed to be done, they just decided to put on a super expensive tire that I did not want without asking me). Obviously I was not okay with that and asked that they remove the tire for a refund. They said they could but would charge me a removal fee. The bike hadn’t even left the shop, the tire was still brand new. The guy who I assume was the owner did not even try to work with me and just seemed to be trying to get every dollar he could from the situation. Not a good experience, I will never go back again. Can highly recommend freewheeler instead, I have been there since and cannot say enough good things.

I don’t usually leave reviews but the way the shop handled the situation was infuriating. Mistakes happen, but the guy was trying to charge me to rectify the situation that he caused. I have never had that happen at any kind of shop before, bike, car, or otherwise.

I would highly recommend all buyers beware. A sellers market is one thing, intentionally ripping off a customer on a 20 year old bike.that’s another. $850 for a used 20 year old GT Idrive 5.0 that’s worth less than $200.shame on you.

Hopefully my review is the first of many coming your way from our mountain bike forum.

Took advantage of a friend of mine who has no idea about bikes. She went there to get advice from professionals on which bike to buy for the first time. She needed a medium frame. The sold her a used small frame GT bike from 2001 for $865 (the bike is priced $150-$200 on bicycle blue book). Yes, you read that right, $865 for a 2001 used GT to someone who just wanted advice on which mountain bike to buy for the first time. Terrible how they took advantage of her. If you don't knowuch about bicycles save your time and don't get ripped off!

Bike was sold to me as a medium frame as that was what I needed, and I told them that.

The bike they sold me they told me was a medium frame. I took it home and took it on a few trails, and felt that it was a bit too small. I took it back in to ask if I could return it since it was too small. They didn't accept and the guy told me it seemed fine as it had a "compact design. " Fine. Though I think I would know if something does quite fit right if I'm telling you that.

However, I went and took measurements of the frame and found out it was actually a small. I then searched the bike to try and find a size sticker, and it confirmed that it was a small frame. So they sold me the wrong frame size after I said that I needed a medium, and they told me it was a medium, and when I brought it back, again insisted that it was a medium.

I then found out that this bike was sold astronomically over price, by close to $500 over true market value, for a twenty year old bike. It costed me $865, when in reality, now that I've been told better, it should have only been sold for MAYBE $300.

I'll take the L, I'll accept that I should have looked into it more but however, it's very shady that you would sell someone a bike $500+ over market value that's twenty years old, insist it's the right size I asked for, a medium frame, when it's actually a small.

I just don't want this to happen to anyone else. I just want others to be aware of my experience. Please take caution, do your research, and LISTEN to the 1* reviews from some other folks.

These guys seem to have a lot to learn about bike repair. I purchased 2 sets of V-brake pads and when I got home, I realized they gave me 4 rights side pads. When I came back to exchange 2 rights for 2 lefts, they were perplexed that they even had a right and a left side. Maybe they just bought the shop and are still in learning mode, but I suggest you find another shop for now.
