Deerwood Apartments, San Diego CA

We lived at Deerwood for one year and had mixed feelings on our stay.

Positive:
- Cecelia at the front desk was really friendly. (more on her later)
- Enjoyed the amenities. The gym and pool were always clean and usually not too busy.
- We moved across the country and it was really easy to schedule appointments for visiting and moving in, and signing the lease.
- Location was fantastic, near freeway and shops (Costco, Trader Joe’s, etc).

Negative:
- Maintenance was slow to show up. Sometimes they would not fix something and then report online it had been fixed. A month before we moved out our microwave was malfunctioning. Maintenance unplugged it then reported the fix. They never showed up again. Once they replaced a broken wheel in our dishwasher with another broken wheel.
- Security deposit. My wife and I had always gotten our full security deposits back at other places (10 apartments between the two of us over the past 20 years), but here they only returned $100 out of $500. They claimed things were “dirty. ”
- Our neighbor apartment was a full time AirBnB, meaning we constantly had strangers loitering around our front door with no accountability for noise or trash outside.
- Regular reports of vandalism on the community forum. Whether by kids in the community or just random people, this was a frequent occurrence. No response from management.
- Move in with Cecilia - she forgot to give us mailbox keys and keys for the recreation spaces. More important, she lost my pre-inspection paperwork. What did she do with it?

While house sitting at Deerwoods Apartments I unfortunately had to witness a neighbor girl (8-10 yo) being abused. Locked out of their apartment by her mother, child screaming /yelling as loud as she could, partially dressed (no pants), the mother throwing items out of the door at the child. Then the child being dragged back in by the mother and a sibling only to hear the repercussions of the after effects of the child’s previous actions through the wall.
What an AWFUL experience to witness! I was warned that this could happen as it is a NORMAL situation. I will NEVER house sit in this apartment complex again!

This is a new move in. GM Olivia was so kind that I am writing this. Even though it was an office after hour when i visit for tour, she showed me the house and was very kind in many ways. There are many good auxiliary facilities such as basketball, play ground, pool and parking, and you can park comfortably. If there are people thinking about this apartment, you won't regret it.

I love how close we are to the freeway. The apartment is spacious & the staff is always super helpful & kind. Very happy living here

Service is bad. Sink plugged for weeks heater not working. Staff taking week to answer maintenance request. Don’t rent here!

Went with my son that was looking for an apartment. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this complex. Area is located close to freeway access as well as shopping. Assistant manager Marcella was very helpful
