Desert Vision Center: Keith G. Tokuhara, M.D., Rancho Mirage CA

I went to this office 2 years ago with acute uveitis, received treatment, but it never went away, continued treatment with another doctor in another state where I live half the time. I got a cataract from the steroids and was totally blind in one eye. I had cataract surgery. Got another eye issue while in PD, Tokuhara diagnosed as corneal ulcer, told me to go to another doctor 3.5 hours away, refused to see me because he was mad that I had my cataract surgery by another doctor. This doctors ego is pathetic and I have never seen such unprofessional behavior and I worked as a registered nurse for 40 years. I think he is a mean person and only cares about himself. BTW he NEVER mentioned doing cataract surgery on me and wanted to dump me when I continued to have eye problems. So, all his bows and praying hands are BS.

Great team and great location! Overall very clean and the staff is super friendly. Always a pleasure coming here to take care of my eyes.

I went there for a routine eye exam. The doctor seeing me seemed very put off that my insurance for the exam was through the VA. She made a comment that my age meant that I probably wasn't in a war when I served. Her whole exam was done in five minutes and she seemed mad that the VA would provide me with expensive progressive lens' if I wanted them and suggested I go buy some cheap readers. I left there feeling weirded out by the whole experience and will asked the VA to get my eye exams elsewhere in the future. I never thought that an eye exam could be that bad.

Dr. Tokuhara and his staff are amazing. I had my first cataract surgery in northern California a few years ago. The experience here at Desert Vision Center was so much better that my previous experience. It was like night and day.
Every step was amazing, from the help in deciding the best procedure, to going over all the lens options, to the day of the operation, the anesthesiologist, an most importantly the surgery itself by Dr. Tokuhara. I was in and out in 2 hours with no discomfort. One day later I now have great vision. Having had an experience where the staff was not as well trained, and the doctor was not as skilled, I would tell anyone, your vision is extremally important so only go with the best and Dr. Tokuhara is the best.

My mom went here for her eyes and got prescribed some eye drops for dry eyes.
After that she was having serious discomfort and pain. Her eyes were bloodshot red. She contacted this office three times in total over the course of a few weeks.
Each time they told her to just keep taking the eye drops (and Dr. Tokuhara said this himself), and they never bothered to see her even after she showed up in person due to how bad the condition of her eyes were.

Because of this she was forced to see another eye doctor in the desert who actually examined her eyes and turns out she had terrible ulcers in each eye. Thank God she saw another doctor because she needed immediate attention with steroid eye drops and medication. Untreated ulcers can even lead to blindness!
Really surprising Tokuhara's office didn't take her symptoms seriously.

She was diagnosed with corneal ulcers and her symptoms improved immediately from taking the anti biotics and steroid eye drops.
Regardless, I left this review because she needed immediate medical attention and this office ignored her symptoms, which is pretty unacceptable.

Dr. Tokuhara did cataract surgery on my husband Jim’s right eye after his left eye was botched by another doctor. The difference was day and night. Dr. Tokuhara and his entire staff give you personalized attention without feeling rushed making the visits and surgery a great experience. The day after surgery Jim was seeing 20/20 after Dr. Tokuhara performed surgery. We traveled 4 hours round trip to see him and for us it was worth it!

Dr. Tokuhara and his team are outstanding! My husband, Joe, had to have cataract surgery for both eyes. He was extremely nervous about the procedure. Dr. Tokuhara's knowledge and bedside manner put Joe at ease. From our first appointment everyone was so kind and helpful. We chose the PanOptix lens after carefully reading about all the choices available. Joe liked the idea of not having to wear glasses anymore. He can now see wonderfully, without glasses just as they said.after wearing glasses since the 7th grade. We are beyond thrilled and highly recommend Dr. Tokuhara.

Same issue as the last problem reported here re incorrect and overpriced lenses and then only offering 50 percent refund which we thought was odd as most offer full refund. They do not like complaints and have refused further treatment for an 85 year old who has macular degeneration and was a patient for at least two years. Just reporting the facts. So many other options out there, aren't we blessed?

Very thorough exam, answered all my questions in great detail. Dr and staff are very pleasant and caring.

I had a great experience here! The staff was very attentive to my needs every step of the way - from booking my appointment over the phone to getting my eyes checked out. The office itself was beautiful and clean. The equipment used to check my eyes seemed very hi-tech! I felt like I was around caring and intelligent people: Dr. Tokuhara made me feel at ease about my eye condition. Nice to know there is such a high quality place in the desert! Looking forward to my next appointment.

Dr. Tokuhara is brilliant compassionate doctor and a very effective communicator. I've visited many eye doctors for decades and Doctor Tokuhara is the very best and I highly recommend him.

My wife (FARAH SHEMIRANI) visited this office she is registered nurse.she was really happy with the whole office staff and specially with the doctor himself. He was extremely knowledgeable and courteous.

I went today for my first appointment. The staff was excellent. I got lost and was running quite late and the girls were very nice and reassuring to me. They answered all my questions and were super professional. Dr. Keith was so amazing. Took his time and was not rushed at all! I am usually pretty scared when it comes to medical procedures but had such a positive experience here that I am looking forward to my medical procedure! Thank you Dr Keith and staff!

I had never been in to see Dr. Tokuhara, but they took me in for a 5pm appointment (I called at 4: 30!). I wish all my Dr.s had the bedside manner, kindness and counsel skills - He was so great. I had gotten something in my eye and he got it right out!

Excellent opthomology practice - responsive, friendly staff with only a brief wait before my appointment. Dr. Tokuhara is friendly and thorough - I have full confidence in his care.

Don’t get lenses there. Mailed glasses to my mom without the center piece and the lenses themselves fell right out. My mom spent the past couple of days trying to reach them but there line is constantly busy.

As for accepting medicare they didn’t on her visit. Bait & switch? Who knows. Double confirm with them before scheduling.

Over all not a great experience.

I would like to thank doctor Tokuhara and his whole staff for an outstanding experience while taking care of my cataracts. The staff was very personable, professional, and attentive to my needs. The examination was extremely thorough and on time. The office and surgical suite was well kept and clean. The instructions post-op were thorough and easy to follow. I opted for the premium lenses and was extremely satisfied with the results. My vision post-op resulted in 20/20 vision in both eyes. Prior to surgery I was having difficulty driving at night, now I do not need glasses to drive at all. I would definitely recommend Dr. Tokuhara to anyone needing cataract surgery or any specialty eye treatment or surgery.
