Donut Star reviews
14The best donuts and super friendly staff / ownership. I got a dozen on Sunday at 6 PM and they weren't even stale
Has gotten a lot more expensive for the same quality donuts since the pandemic. Now $18 for dozen. Used to be $11.
This is a family place and the donuts are so good! Prices are great and they are always super nice and friendly. Best donut location in the area.
Great donuts at an affordable price. They have never been overpriced. This is the best donut shop in San Diego. Great donuts and always friendly and welcoming service.
Prices don't match menu. AVERAGE taste. Keep a tally. You'll be charged MORE when rung. Not better than a chain.
Well, our son had a craving for donuts, and so while in the area, we found Donut Star.
Don't let the humble surrounding deter you. The donuts here are really amazing!
I love this place like I love my own favorite donut spot.
Bavarian cream, yesss!
Taro with coconut, yayyy!
My son is a fan of maple. The gob it on.
So, my thoughts? Let's go!
Good donuts but sketchy on pricing, I’ve been charged a wide range for the same donut depending on who is working. One time I got charged $2 for each plain glazed donut ($6 for three regular donuts), despite not even the more expensive donuts being that much even old fashioned are only $1.50 on their menu…be cautious and confirm their math!
Great selection at a fair price. Really pleased with what I've tried here so far, and look forward to trying more.
Hands down THE BEST old fashioned donuts in San Diego! Me and my son ordered a dozen assorted and literally sat in the car and melted away! They are Cash Only!
Great family-run neighborhood donut shop with affordable prices and a variety of breakfast sandwiches/drinks.
Donut Star has the best donuts in San Diego! The Apple Fritter with Bacon, and Chocolate Buttermilk are off the charts! Super nice folks as well.
Star Donuts is the only traditional donut shop I’ve found in the Mission Hills/Hillcrest area. In the land of high-rent it is a treasure that needs to be supported.
One note, Star: your cake donuts are either under cooked or the oil isn’t hot enough to get a slightly crisp surface that would bring you to 5 stars.
Glad we found this place while in San Diego. It is a bit pricey, but for a one time stop for dessert, very good.
We had nine items including the cinnamon roll, maple bacon fritter, and a couple specialty donuts (Reese’s peanut butter cup, gummy bear, and maple bacon stick). All were very good, but the apple fritter and old fashioned blueberry were superb.
Worth the trip.
It is overpriced!
A cinnamon roll was $3.50 then bc it has crumbs that was another. 25 and then if you try and use a debit card they charge. 75
So 1 cinnamon roll, if I bought it with a card was going to be $4.50!?
I took out all my change and paid the $3.75.
I couldn't disappoint my son, but I would have left otherwise.
