Dr. Dotz is the most thorough derm I have ever had, and I have had many. I was diagnosed with melanoma 9 years ago and when my last derm retired, I looked around and found Dr. Dotz. During my first visit, Dr. Dotz took approx 100 photos of my entire body. What an amazing concept. No other derm had done that before and, if you think about it, what better way to visually track moles over time. This photographic exercise made it clear that Dr. Dotz really cared about his patients. Sure makes my bi-annual skin checks very easy. I highly recommend Dr. Dotz.

I have been a patient of Dr Dotz for over 30 years having been diagnosed with a skin cancer early in life. He is very diligent, taking time to perform a thorough exam and explaining carefully if his exam reveals anything that may need follow up. He also has office staff that have been with him for years, attesting to to his character as an employer.

Dr. Dotz is, I suspect, a very good dermatologist but he’s personally very difficult to deal with. Stay clear unless your willing to hear him talk on an on, issue strict orders, and obey them exactly or get scolded. I couldn’t deal with him.

UPDATE 2:
Today (2/26/2020) Dr. Dotz himself called because he saw this review and was concerned. He explained that he was unable to be involved much with patient care during the period I was seen for and said the way things were done were not how he preferred. He also explained that his office doesn't set the prices - my insurance company does. I didn't know that. He has offered to refund all the bills paid toward the wart removal and offered advice on how to remove warts in the future. I have never had a doctor call me themselves, so I'm impressed by that. He also spent like 20 minutes on the phone with me. I think he deeply cares about his patients being happy.

UPDATE 1:
Almost immediately after writing this review (in December, 2020), someone in billing from Dr. Dotz's office called and offered a much larger discount that knocked at least $200 off of my bill, which I was happy with. So I was able to pay my bill for what I felt was a much fairer price.

ORIGINAL POST:
I have not had a great experience at Dr. Dotz's office. I had about five visits total to remove two plantar warts. All but the first visit the doctor froze my warts with liquid nitrogen, which took about 5 minutes of the doctor's time. For this they charged $250 each time. Most of this I had to pay out of pocket, so I have a doctor's bill for almost $1000, and I still have both plantars warts. Unfortunately billing is slow so I didn't realize how much this was costing me until the sixth visit, which I cancelled. In the past, other dermatologists have removed warts in three visits for less than the quarter of the cost that Dr. Dotz's office charged. I think I've called Dr. Dotz's billing department about 10 times to ask for a discount. Once I got a response saying he would give me a discount of about $60 but that was not reflected in my most recent statement. It's seems to be impossible now to get a hold of anyone in billing to pay my $1000 bill to remove two plantar warts that I still have.

Dr Dotz has been our family dermatologist for many years. We greatly appreciate his expertise, knowledge, caring and professional skills. I highly recommend his practice for the best care possible. Dr. Dotz's office staff are wonderful. They are very helpful and polite and really try to accommodate the needs of the patient. I have recommended Dr. Dotz's practice to several friends and they have been been very pleased with the excellent quality of his care and his professional capabilities.

Dr. Warren Dotz, M. D, is an outstanding Dermatologist and I have been seeing him with great success and excellent medical advise for 31 years. Dr. Dotz is highly knowledgeable and has published articles relating to his medical expertise. He always to me is like a "MAGICIAN" in helping diagnose and solve any skin concerns and problems I may have. His staff is very courteous to me and willing to get an appointment as soon as possible. Dr. Dotz though can fill up very fast in his appointment schedule. He also has been super compassionate, reliable and kind to me throughout the 31+ years of which I have been seeing him. I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. WARREN I DOTZ as a leading Dermatologist in the East Bay.

Ditto for everything said about Dr. Dotz, and his office is also very personal / personable.very striking to see this in a time when medical office staff can make or break a patient's experience.
