We decided it was time to replace our old deck. After having several contractors come out to take a look at the job, we were ready to go with one of them.but then we read the on line reviews for Dr. Deck, and decided to meet with them as well before we made a final decision. When Yair first came out to take a look at the job, he listened carefully as we described what we wanted, he asked insightful questions to confirm the specific details of what we envisioned, and he made a number of good suggestions that he thought would enhance our new deck. After the meeting, we felt that Yair would be very easy to work with.and after we received his competitive quote, we decided to go with Dr. Deck. The work began shortly after.and was finished even sooner than we had anticipated! Throughout the construction process, Yair and his crew paid close attention to every detail to ensure a real high-end look.and after the work was completed, Yair reached out to make sure we were 100% happy with the deck. Want them replaced with some sort of composite material, which prevents termites
and requires little care, with minimalist cable railings, to exploit the views from the MBR & Dining Rm.
I prefer a golden oak / maple color, to match the wood inside the house.

So within just a day or so, Yair called and we scheduled the first meeting.
I had studied Architecture for a year, but dropped out,
learning just enough to get our Dream Home designed/built.
And I knew EXACTLY what I wanted:
decks to match the wood inside the house, with see-thru Cable Railings. Yair just smiled.

He handed me a two-foot sample of his decking.
Unsuspecting, the sample almost dropped out of my hands because it was SO dense and heavy!
He explained he prefers to use Ipe or Bamboo for decking because they are sustainable and much more durable.
But... They also eventually turn a gray-color with exposure from the sun.

He kindly and simply explained this, such that I realized my foolishness wanting a maple-colored wood.
I finally realized: Which is more important - the Decking color matching the woodwork
inside the house, or that Bamboo requires little protection from the elements, it won’t rot in the sun, doesn’t have to be oiled twice a year, and the termites won’t eat it.

Nobody is looking at the decking anyway - they are being swept away by the Views below and beyond!

Yair’s crew (Milton and Mahari, among others) without wasting any energy,
knew what they were doing, and demo-ed the termite-infested decks,
and they started installing the replacement Decks.

It was interesting to watch how the Decks were Perfectly fit together.
They use special plastic spacers in the horizontal grooves in the Bamboo to keep all the planks exactly parallel.
With small screws bolting the spacers to the support joists, and locking the bamboo planks together there is no visible hardware on the top of the deck planks - just smooth fine-grain bamboo.
The tops of all the support members underneath were ALL capped with grown-up plastic tape to prevent water from seeping into the cut edges over time.
The bolts & screws are all pretty much invisible.
No nail or screw heads visible. Only along the perimeter edges, if you search hard,
can you find the tiny (maybe 1/8" tiny!) 21st-Century bolt heads. The plastic spacers do all the work.

Another fascinating construction material was giant metal screws - like four-foot long woodscrews. Yair’s crew installed these screws into the caliche instead of using concrete to pour foundations.
How ingenious!

Even though I had failed to do my homework on the wood aspect, I HAD researched
the railing part quite extensively (for a lay person). Because of the views below the Decks, I wanted minimal stainless Cable Railings, with side-mount Posts.
With Deck-mount Posts, several sq feet of area are lost, and it looks "HomeDepot".
Thus, with stainless cables and steel-colored Posts & Railings, the railings have mostly disappeared, in favor of the views below and the San Gabriel Foothills beyond.

The project progressed exceptionally smoothly. Every day, it was a pleasure to see how the Decks were coming together as I had envisioned.

To be perfectly honest, I skipped getting other quotes for this project.
The yelp Reviews convinced me Dr-Deck would get the Decks built perfectly.

Casually conversing, Yair, APART from Decking, is a very interesting person.

Now I relax in a Zero-Gravity chaise longue on the Deck off the MBR, for hours, the dog & I enjoying the coming Evening together.

In the end, these three new Decks are exactly what I wanted.

Even though Yair wasn't available during construction, his crew was on time, professional and cleaned up. Final result is beautiful, and they came back after it was done to add light poles. Couldn't be happier!

This is the second time we did a deck through Yair and his team. Last year we did our kitchen patio and were very impressed with Dr-Deck's team. They finished early and did a great job. It totally transformed the way we used the space. This time we did our back yard and same great result. You can definitely find cheaper bids but can't beat the professionalism and quality. Of the dozens of subs I used for my house, they are definitely among the best.

I cannot possibly say enough good things about Yair and his crew. I really can't. Hire them NOW. It was worth every penny. They showed up promptly on time every morning, worked efficiently, and left the worksite clean every day. The craftsmanship is impeccable. They worked around a few audibles we ended up pulling and were cool about everything. We had some uneven terrain, and they made it all fit like a glove. They rebuilt our entry stairs, they built us a new metal entry gate with a new ipe wood fence to match, they covered our ugly brick garden walls with gorgeous wood. We had a weird situation underneath the deck with some ugly broken up concrete we couldn't remove; they built a beautiful wood bench/day bed to cover it up. They have legitimately set the bar for anyone I want to work with on our house from here on out. I wish I had more decks for them to build so I could hire them again.

I was in need of a complete retrofit of a wraparound deck in my mid century modern home built in 1949. The deck was as old as the house and what Yair did was beyond expectations. I would highly recommend Dr Deck. Could not be happier.

Such an amazing experience working with Yair and his team. From our initial meeting to the final staining the team has been professional, courteous, transparent, and accommodating. We had a few delays on our part but they were able to shift their schedule to help us out which is always appreciated when you are trying to juggle several projects. We also had a gas line and electrical installed and they made sure to adjust the framing as needed without any hesitation. We built a huge decks and stairs project in our backyard. We interviewed all of the main companies in L. A, ultimately chose Dr. Deck and Yair, and are really glad we did. They did great work building the project we envisioned. But even better, along the way they helped imagine an even better project. Yair, Matan, and the crew are just awesome. Dr. Deck was super well priced, especially compared to some of the other deck companies, and yet I cannot imagine them doing better work or being more communicative.

My wife and I had the pleasure of working with Yair and the Dr. Deck team on a poolside project this spring! The work entailed demo-ing some concrete to level things before surrounding our newly renovated pool with Deckorators mineral-based composite wood. We really like this material due to its appearance as well as maintaining relatively cool surface temperatures in the midday summer heat.

Despite a tight project timeline, Yair and his team adjusted things on their end to accommodate us. Two thumbs up - we cannot recommend them highly enough!

I wound up choosing Dr. Deck partly based on the Yelp reviews, partly because Yair felt like a solid guy to do business with. I am so happy we chose them. First of all, the price was completely in line with the other bids we got.

Second, the crew was fast and efficient, both at demolishing my old deck and installing my new one. They displayed a great deal of care about getting everything right. I am thrilled to entertain my guests on this deck.

Important note. A few days after the job was paid in full Yair came out to inspect the job. He was not satisfied with the way a few of the Ipe boards had taken the stain, so he immediately sent out one of his guys to get it right. Yair came for another inspection, was still not satisfied with the results, so he sent another guy out. The first two passes were for a small section of the deck. After Yair’s third inspection he sent out a guy to re-stain the entire deck, most of a day’s work. Remember, this was now several weeks after Yair had been paid in full. But he went a serious extra distance to make things completely right.
