Dunedin New Zealand Eats reviews
19Enjoyed a mother son day and stopped in for lunch. We had passed by before and were curious about the food. We plan to return with friends to share the dining experience. It is t necessarily somewhere I would go out to eat just for a meal. For us, it fits in with a full or half day of plans to create a particular overall experience.
Wagyu smash burger and steak fries, that's my go to order. The cocktails are unique, taste great, and aren't weak. Has a nice wrap around patio and a cool interior that reminds me of a jungle, but not in a tacky way. You bring a date here, you'll have a good time.
Dunedin offers a great dining atmosphere with a tiki theme. The patio includes some high top tables on one side of the sidewalk and some great wooden tables that are separated by partitions on the other side. The interior continues the tiki theme, it feels like you are in an island bar. Extensive draft beer list, cocktails sounded great. Brunch is offered daily until 2 PM with some intriguing options.
3 of the 4 of us got the meat pies and the other person got the Dutch Pancake with Fried Chicken. This menu is full of comfort food items and they did not disappoint! The meat pies were fantastic, flaky, buttery dough enveloped savory meat and cheese filling. Simply delicious. The fries were crispy and well seasoned and accompanied by tomato chutney. The Dutch Pancake with chicken brought rave reviews, with the lightly battered chicken was well complemented by the fruit, pancake, and syrup.
Service was friendly, but inconsistent, with extended gaps between check-ins and longer wait to get the tab after finishing the meal. We ordered the meat pies as take out to bring back for a friend and she similarly reported a delightful meal heating them up in an air fryer for dinner.
Overall, love the concept, food was delicious and satisfying, and while service was underwhelming, it did not significantly detract from the experience. Looking forward to checking out their weekend brunch.
One of my favorite San Diego spots to hang! Great folks, amazing food, always awesome moments. Can’t wait to pop back in soon!
Very good. Been here many times. Dress warmly. They are more concerned about ambiance than comfortable temperatures.
This place was so good. The food was a 10 and the customer service was awesome. They’ve really thought of everything.
Really fun atmosphere and a great variety of dishes to choose from. The calamari was perfectly fried with flavorful seasoning. The Fish n Chips were light with the batter and not at all dried out. The creole shrimp was legit and comes with a full loaf of bread to dip into the broth. Check this place out!
I haven’t ever been to NZ but I am in the minority I’m liking British/Australian/New Zealand food.
Atmosphere
Vibes here are top notch, from the lighting to the plants. It’s very nice.
Staff
Both times I’ve been here, we had to wait to be seated. It’s not that there was a lack of seating, it just seems that staff isn’t that attentive to the front of the restaurant. Negatives aside, the waiters are kind and knowledgeable.
Food
Brunch is a solid choice. I tried a few bites of the thanksgiving sandwich, which was the burger of the month, and it was decent. The meat pies are flavorful and filling. The fries are a must. The lamb burger was juicy and flavorful.
Drinks
Strong. The Mai Tai will start off your bring the right way.
Recommend?
Yes, I’ll be back.
I used to like this place, but their illegal parklet structure on 30th Street is blocking the bike lane, and management apparently refuses to remove it. Anyone who supports bicycles, the environment, or alternatives to driving should avoid this business.
Always a great place for food and a beer. If you time it correctly, the sun will fill the deck and you can enjoy your meal in the sun!
Come. Eat. Here! It's delish, cute, fun, and priced well. Second time here and will be back!
Unbelievable ahi tuna sandwich and tater tots. Smash burger was out of this world. We will definitely be back.
Amazing chicken pot pie. I went to this spot for a date night and it was great. Highly recommend!
They have great service and a decent brunch but the cocktails taste like juice and the food is disappointing. Do not recommend.
Great food and even better staff.
Super relaxed vibe. Good decor. Great beer list.
This place feels like a second home.
Big shout out to Brian, Cordell, Sarah, Crystal and so many more.
The food was absolutely delicious. We got the onion dip, the NZ lamb burger and the meat pie with chips and they were all so so good. Highly highly recommend!
Finally got a table here within 30 mins of wait! Ambience and service was very enjoyable. Food was good but the drinks were superb.chicken pot pie was good but way too heavy for my appetite, so could only eat one fourth. I would focus on the drinks here than the food here. Maybe a bit pricey for San Diego but given the inflation I guess it's fine. Will return again.
We had always see this restaurant when driving through North Park and always thought it looked cool from the outside. Finally got to go try it out recently for date night and was throughly impressed. There was not one thing I would have changed. From the drinks, food, service and to the ambience, everything was beyond expectations. Highly recommend and will most definitely be back.
This place is amazing. They have fire and heaters everywhere, which makes the experience even better since it's getting cold these days. We were 6 people, and we got seated in this beautiful booth. It was a little bit tight but amazing.
They have a special offer every Thursday, which is a burger, fries, and a beer for $20. We ordered the smash burger, it was AMAZING and soooo delicious! The fries came cold, and we asked for warmer ones, and Adam brought us once we asked.
My friend tried their salmon salad and she loved it!
They also have $2 mimosas every Sunday.
