El Coqui Puerto Rican Cuisine

Great, flavorful vegan options! I could eat their mofongo all day every day, which is fried green plantains with a garlicky broth.

A friend and I decided to try it
They weren’t busy, but took over 30 mins to deliver the food. Service was very bad.
The food wasn’t that good, but the REAL PROBLEM was that both I and my friend got the runs the next day.
I could go into depth about the food, just know I will never return and wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

We had 12 of us for lunch this 7/30/2022 at El Coqui. The atmosphere was very Puerto Rican. My family is from PR, the food was beyond excellent. Each of us ordered something different except we all had the typical PR salad, some had Spanish rice while others had white rice with blk beans or pinto bns.

Mediocre would be an understatement. The ambiance is enjoyable and the servers were kind as well. The food however not so much. I ordered “chicharrón de pollo” and what I received was three lightly fried chicken thighs. That is not chicharrón de pollo. The beans lacked any sazón or adobo, they tasted and looked like they were straight out of a can. I ordered yellow rice which also was very bland, amogollao and flavorless.
According to a published article that is hung on the wall the owner was born into the Puerto Rican community in the Bronx. I lived in nyc for years… you could not serve this food in The Bronx and be successful. Shame we drove 2 hours to come taste the food at El Coqui only to be disappointed. Not worth the high price we paid at all.

Okay I love Puerto Rican food. I used to live on the island back when I was married to someone from there and now that I'm back state side it is so difficult to find something even close to authentic.

El Coqui is so good it's unreal. Their empanadillas and mofongo, bifongo, and trifongo alone are worth the trip, but oh my god, their pollo Al horno with arroz con gandules and beans with calabazo? Delicious.

It's located in a gorgeous, picturesque spot in downtown Santa Rosa next to this great little cafe. Within walking distance from where I live in historic railroad square. It is so, SO worth the trip if you're ever in Sonoma County.

Amazing food made by amazing people. We love the flavors and choices El Coqui offers. Authentic, delicious and honest. Try and enjoy!

Great friendly service but the pork chop I had had no flavor except salt. It was too salty. I had to douse it with the vinegar hot sauce on the table to add flavor and desalination. They have another awesome hot sauce you can request too that my food totally required. Pork chop was also dry. BUT I finished my whole plate which included beans and rice with plantains. It wasn't a bad meal just ok. I saw an El Pollo Loco on the way over there which I would chose over this joint. Not a put down and it is different cuisine but El Pollo Loco is like a 8 out of 10 based on food (at least the ones in SoCal are). This joint is a 6 (5 for food +1 for service).

Dinner was great, 6 adults. Everyone ordered something different and shared and everything was delicious. Service was great.

My visit was extremely disappointing. Because what I received did not reflect the quality I was expecting, especially at the prices they're charging. The rice served with my meal tasted like it had been cooked in dish water and I found it truly ridiculous when we received a small plate of avocados, tomatoes and red onions with dressing charging $7 when there wasn't even an entire avocado on the plate. The cocktail prices are absurd and don't reflect the $8 that they're charging you.

I live in Los Angeles and every time I visit Santa Rosa for work this is where I have to each when I get there and before I leave. Puerto Rican food in LA is almost non existent. I would definitely recommend el pollo al horno dish and ask for their garlic mojo (vinegar not paste) on the side this combo is fire! Also make sure to try their red sangria. Thank me later k bye

This food is sooo good. I had the fried chicken with the avocado salad and a mix of fried and sweet plantains, and I had a pineapple sangria. Food, service, drinks, and location were all awesome. I sat outdoors and still had excellent service.

Love Pollo Al Horno & Yucca Fries & the plantains (tostones & maduros) & the mofongo. Delish

The menú is kind of limited. Missing some Puertorican food staples like lechón asado y frituras but its better than not having a Boricua spot around. Food and portions were good, priced as the only puertorican restaurant around which is fine I guess.

Food amazing 5 stars! Seasoned staff amazing 5 stars! Younger lady (ladies) staff need help with customer service over the phone as they do not value kindness via phone. Keep the seasoned staff answering and taking phone orders!

I’m so happy we found this place during our quick stay in Santa Rosa! The food was amazing, the restaurant atmosphere was nice, and the people were really friendly. Will definitely be back when in town.
