The environment as a whole is very cool! It is a space with several food options. El Porteno empanadas is one of them. We ordered the meat and chicken empanadas and we can say that it was ok, nothing special.now the dulce de leche and banana one was worth the queue to buy it! Delicious!

There was a very long line to get our empanadas, it was tasty but not sure will wait again.

Nice flaky empanada, lacking in real flavour and not served with salsas either. Not impressed. Do yourself a favour and go outside to Peaches Patties

I can't say what is best because everything is so delicious. I wish they had this place in NC.

Absolutely delicious savory and sweet empanadas, made fresh and kept warm!

There are so many fillings to choose from, make sure you try a sweet one while you’re at it. Affordable enough you can try more than one! They have cheese ones, mushroom ones, prosciutto ones, banana, cherry, literally so many to choose from.

They may not look it, but they can fill you up quickly. If you’re heading to the Ferry building, it’s a must try!

No seating though, you’ll have to find seating elsewhere in the ferry building.

Stumbled upon this place and decided to try an Alfajore. The gentleman serving the food was exceedingly polite and courteous. I inquired about the most popular flavors and decided to go with his recommendations. After heading over to the register to pay, the bill totaled $16. As I received my bag containing the items, I noticed they were hot. Upon opening the bag, I found two empanadas. I turned around and politely mentioned that it seemed like I received the wrong order.

The cashier, a female, appeared frustrated and started glancing around, as if I had committed some serious offense. The gentleman who had initially assisted me reappeared and clarified that I had ordered two different items. However, the cashier continued to seem upset and asked me, "What did you order? " I confirmed my order, and she looked at me, saying, "Do you speak English? " I was taken aback by the question but replied affirmatively. She asked again, "Sir, do you speak English? " To which I replied, "Yes, I do, and I also speak Spanish. " This seemed to agitate her further.

She then refunded my cash and, in an angry tone, inquired whether I still wanted to purchase the items. This interaction left a bitter taste in my mouth. Although the gentleman assisting with food service was exceptional, the behavior of this particular lady is the reason why I won't be returning to this place. Please note that this is solely my personal opinion, and I wish no harm to the business.

Finding myself at El Porteño in the Ferry Building was a delightful twist to my day. The quick service was a plus, but the stars of my lunch were undoubtedly the Pollo and Jamon y Queso empanadas.

The Pollo was a tender, savory offering, with a hint of sweetness from raisin-marinated, oven-roasted chicken breast. Coupled with roasted onions and green olives, it was a well-rounded bite. On the other side, the Jamon y Queso was a hearty twist on a traditional ham and cheese sandwich, with salty prosciutto and sweet Fontina cheese nestled within a flaky crust.

Both empanadas boasted a beautifully flaky crust that encased the ample, flavorful fillings, making for a satisfying and quick lunch option. The simplicity and taste are what make El Porteño a great choice for a swift yet delicious lunch.

Good and tasty but not authentic as the dough is too flaky and buttery to be considered a true Argentine empanada. Not the style you would normally find in Buenos Aires.

I bought mozzarella and banana breads. The cheese was not hot but also not delicious. I was sad because my important lunch was spoiled by it

The fugazetta (cheese) empanada was absolutely delicious. The apple raisin empanada was also great.

Excellent menu of different typical Argentine empanadas at reasonable prices inside the iconic Ferry Building. Without a doubt, they are all worth trying and the mouth-watering alfajores. A very "porteña" aesthetic. The absence of a place to sit plays against him.

Argentine Empanadas, a meal that cannot fail. AND DOES NOT FAIL! Go to Porteño for its empanadas and alfajores, which are worth it. Hold on Argentina world champion and their empanadas. Happiness is a pie

Great stop in the ferry building, got the Pollo Empanadas and a cereze (cherry dessert empanada). Solid.

Service was offensive! I ordered a coffee and was waiting for it when a staff member sneered at me saying "insufficient fund! " and pointed to the POS screen. It took me a second but I figured the person before me paid with a card that was denied and this staff member thought it was me. So I told them that I'm still waiting for the coffee and haven't paid. The staff member got more annoyed and doubled down again pointing to the POS screen. I explained again and the person making my coffee looked over and finally they knew they screwed up and proceeded to ring me up. No apology, no acknowledgement that they messed up and was being rude/aggressive to a customer, all of this over a few dollars.

Not sure whats up with the worker at this place but every time we pre order she has a nasty attitude and acts as if the order wasn’t placed. The lady acts dismissive and never provides chimichurri. I think she just treats delivery people poorly but we are not delivery people we just like to pre order as this place gets busy. This has now happened more than once and its disappointing. Not sure if we will be returning thanks to the rude encounter with this person.

One of the few places I've tried in the ferry building. The empenadas are good but they would tasty more rich if they were really, really packed with meats and sauce. Decent portions but costs about $7 for one.

I'm a regular visitor, but today the dough on the empanada was completely raw on the bottom. This could likely get someone sick. I'm not sure how this wasn't noticed since just a quick check should've caught the raw dough.
