Emma Habesha Restaurant reviews
19The food is delicious and the owner/cook has warm motherly/auntie vibes. The doro wat was recommended by a food magazine, and I see why. The chicken falls off the bone. It's similar to curry (vindaloo, rendang), but also different and unique.
Food was delicious. Service was friendly. Atmosphere was beautiful! First time having Ethiopian food, I really enjoyed it! Would definitely come back for more!
Food was so good. Everyone in my party was very content. Someone even said it was the best meal they'd had in a couple months.
The food is very fresh! Emma is very lovely and hospitable. The restaurant is nice and clean. This is a hidden gem. We had the vegan platter and the fried fish. It was the perfect amount for 2 people and very reasonably priced. The lentil sambusa was crispy and fresh and had fresh herbs. And that Ethiopian coffee was amazing! I am not a coffee drinker and I loved it.
Absolutely wonderful experience! The food was phenomenal and Emma was so kind and thoughtful. I would definitely recommend stopping in!
First time ever having Ethiopian food before. I asked them to pick what they thought would be good for me. They recommended the vegetarian platter with the fried fish. OMG! 10/10, the fish didn’t even make it out of the parking lot, I ate most of it before pulling off. The veggie plate was so delicious, it had a little bit of a kick of spice and was so flavorful. I would definitely recommend y’all going because I will definitely be going back!
Unbelievably delicious! A truly authentic experience. Had the vegan combo, which was an amazing array of flavors. So much fun eating with the injera! Please go visit Emma and allow her to cook for you!
Excellent vegan options, and we got a super interesting lesson on Ethiopian food, culture, and climate as well! Would definitely come back.
Great flavorful food. Nice ownership and energy. Helpful patient staff helped me when I ordered delivery to the wrong address.
I go out of my way to eat here
Emma herself single handily makes everything herself, so you know they have standards and it has to be good. Being away from family and living in Los Angeles for work as an Ethiopian, Emma restaurant is hand down close to what I’m use to at home and that’s saying a lot.
The service was impeccable and the food delicious. When we went to pick it up we regretted that we couldn’t stay there to eat: the restaurant is cozy, cute and clearly decorated with love. The women who lead it are friendly and great chefs - one of the best Ethiopian meal we ever had.
Tried the meat combo here last week while in town and although very reasonably priced, unfortunately it was one of the most bland Ethiopian restaurants that I have ever been to. They were out of the raw dishes which I felt could have possibly saved them as they're typically spicy, acidic and more flavorful?
The chicken egg dish and the lamb were the best. Actually had to add salt to everything, which I've never had to do at an Ethiopian restaurant. The other chicken entree was a somewhat indiscernable brownish grey mush. Injera, cabbage, salad and greens were bland as well.
Service was friendly and the restaurant was nice and clean though. Maybe flavor is due to the the region for this particular Ethiopian cuisine? Not sure, unfortunately I wasn't impressed though and I've been to numerous Ethiopian restaurants.
My husband and I visited this place and the food was beyond amazing. This was our first time eating Ethiopian food and it was an amazing experience. As soon as we walked in, Joanne greeted us with nothing but smile. She was very sweet. We were escorted to our table in the back where the ambiance was so pleasant. We had the veggi with fish and samosas. We were greated by the chef (mom) and she was very sweet. The music was nothing but amazing African jamz. Would recommend this place for anyone who is visiting Cali and wanting to experience and taste African food.
Such an amazing restaurant. The food was delicious and the coffee was PHENOMENAL. Not too bitter, very rich, and someone else said it tastes like dark chocolate - it does! The atmosphere is so calming, especially if you sit outside. The service is wonderful too, the server was very kind and recommended us a few dishes. Will definitely come back again. Parking is also free and available:)
We forgot to take pictures because we were so hungry but we got the awaze tibbs, derek tibbs and veggie combo for 3 people. It was sooo good I’ve hard Ethiopian food at a few other places in LA and in DC and the food here is definitely among the top. We obliterated our food, not a scrap left. Emma the chef came out to say hi and we made sure to let her know how much we enjoyed everything. Next time I come to LA this is for sure a place I have to go back to.
Loved the food! Been missing it. Decided to go with Emma Habesha and was not disappointed. We got the veggie combo.amazing. I recommend the back patio when the weather is nice (which is most of the time in socal) for an eclectic eating experience. Oh when we went in to pay the bill (very reasonable), Emma taught us Ethiopian dancing and shared with us other interesting culture. Enjoy!
Good authentic Ethiopian food, the outdoor seating is nice and cozy. They make the best veggie combo in town.
Wonderful place! As soon as you walk in the environment is friendly. The food is delicious! Went there with my dad today it is a fantastic day
Very tasty food! I ordered the veg combo plate with some Shiro on the side. The line to get in was a bit long so plan to get there a bit early if you're going during the weekend.
