Filippis Pizza Grotto Pacific Beach reviews
13Inconsistant product all around. I fell in love with Filippis in Escondido- as I am from Chicago and very picky about pizza. This location in pacific beach is so inconsistent though and seems lately on the doughy side with less cheese and pepperoni. Not impressed by my last 3 visits honestly, and don’t think I’ll be returning again sadly. They also don’t have lunch pizza like some other locations. Committing to a $20 pizza to be disappointed multiple times just doesn’t sit right with me anymore.
The best antipasto salad in Town! Pizza was also fantastic. The crust has a medium thickness with the freshest toppings. All servers are nice, go here ASAP!
Subpar pizza and they can't follow simple instructions. You can literally get better pizza anywhere else
We came here while on vacation. Heard great reviews about it from friends.
I thought it was ok. Prices are decent, but I think I expected more.
Service was good though. Decor is cute.
If you don't know, Filippi's has a different Pizza Style. They put the toppings down and then the cheese on top
Filippis pizza is the longest running best pizza around. Kippy and Bo are the best servers in PB ever. Must go!
Place is solid and feels like home. Food is good and the pizza is kind of on the Doughy side for flavor which is fair. Isn’t the best pizza but the amount you get at a large is crazy and enough to fill like 4-5 people. Lasagna is probably one of the better things here. The portions are absolutely massive if you’re into that. Realistically 2 people could share most of the plates even if you are really hungry. They let the kids play with raw dough here also. It’s a chill place and the waitress was super friendly.
I am so sorry, but y´all Americans gotta learn what good food tastes like. Adding more isn`t always the best. Especially when it comes to food. Maybe ask some Europeans where to find good and how it usually tastes and looks like. You want to use your taste buds.
This place is the ladt of the original, old school family Italian pizza and restaurant joints left in Pacific Beach. Pernicano's closed in 2019, and Marino's just closed in late 2021. They are the sole survivor, and with good reason! From the pasta dishes, to of course the pizzas themselves, the quality is good and the price is right.
For example, 3 side meatballs (almost tennis ball sized) and three sausages with three glasses of house chianti, adjusted with Covid price modifications, 42 bucks total! Can't beat that anywhere!
I grew up in PB and I'm in my fifties and I've been going there my whole life, and you can not go wrong with this place, the ambience is also great, old school Italian Restaurant vibe, with hanging chianti bottles and checkered table clothes and candles!
For a date or meet up to hang out, or whatever, there is always something for anybody here, check it out!
I've been to many of Filippi's and the Pacific Beach one was very disappointing. The dough was not cooked enough and had no flavor, pizza sauce was flavorless along with the spaghetti and lasagna plus the house dressing is nothing like the other Filippi's. I will not be ordering from this one ever again.
Very good food, at great pricing. Place was super busy with a big 50+ party so service was a little slow, but better than expected. Friends who took us have been coming here over 15 years, and said always consistent. Beer and wine selection a bit lacking, but food made up for that.
Pizza was way too doughy. I've experienced this trend at 3 of their restaurants, so far. Looks like a corporate decision to cut back on the more flavorful ingredients and replace them with dough. Too bad. The service on the other hand was great. Ms. Beau served us well. The saving grace to mediocre pizza.
Great pizza but wanted so badly to be impressed by the pepper steak sandwich thinking it was similar to a Philly, it wasn't great, but pizza was fantastic so 4 out of 5 stars
