Firewood, Murphys CA

We visited here after a long hike in calaveras big trees state park. We were famished. The pizza we ordered (chicken pesto) was freshly made and delicious. Fries were crunchy too. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Dirty tables, dirty, very dirty bathroom. And the kind of service where when they’re talking to you they’re looking over your shoulder with that very tired, “oh man, please finish with your order“ kind of look. The food was solid, but the service and the place is not at all kept up. Given the prices, in the end, I would not recommend

Great fish tacos great burger, good fries, fun environment. They have one TV with college football on which is cool. Definitely gonna be back and try the pizza next time.

We got 2 pizzas. Would have done just as well to buy frozen one & make @ home. No flavor. Tomato sauce with cheese & no detectable other flavors

Forgot my order, waited an hour and a half to get my food …. When they finally brought it out, they still tried to give it to the wrong table

Their food is not awful but definitely overpriced. Expect to wait, and be prepared for a bunch of high school kids who can't be bothered to help you with anything.

They forgot to make our pizza, the cashier tried to argue until the manager came over and showed her our receipt and started making the pizza. It came out eventually, about 30 minutes after all the other food.

The fish burrito was almost entirely beans and rice, and served with maybe 15 chips. Not worth the 11.50.

The guy with a peach fuzz moustache was definitely stoned and looked completely lost.

The upstairs is unbelievably stuffy and the downstairs is very crowded. Not a place for large groups.

After their response, I have to say maybe its tune time to close down. Keep hiring high school stoners.

We have been ordering the wood oven pizza at Firewood for 19 years. At first the pizza was not good, but over the years it improved and became a very good wood oven pizza. At one point I placed the Margarita, add prosciutto, pizza in my top 10 which includes pizza in Italy and Switzerland. However, our last pizzas there were awful. The crust was the only thing still good on the pizza. The sauce was, likely, straight out of a can, too thick, and had no flavor. The prosciutto (added for extra $$) was not the usual air dried prosciutto it was salt cured Speck prosciutto that is gross when used on pizza due to being so salty. A salty piece of cardboard would have had as much flavor as our pizzas. I am disappointed in those who run Firewood. Unless they change I would not recommend their pizza to anyone.

Good ambience and friendly workers. We went towards the very end of the day and we’re super glad that they are open late when everything else was closed. The fish and chips are generous!

Great atmosphere, service, and food. All of our food was served fresh, seasoned well, and great portions. Will be returning!

Food tastes great but to many flies. Asked manager to open slide up door to let flies out or give me a fky swatter. She ignored my request. Flies everywhere in our food and almost flying in my mouth, trying to eat my food. I'm very disappointed. Oh, and I said something to one of the workers, and he said ya, you should see what it's like back there in the kitchen. We live in the area and eat here often. Rethinking eating here again after this experience.

Nice place to have a good meal. Great location. The service at the order area is good, but the service upstairs leaves a lot to be desired. Under the table there was food all over the floor and the seats. There is no AC upstairs either.
The chicken strips sandwich is large (2 strips of fried chicken) on a large bun with a nice helping of fries.
The fish and chips are tasty, but the fries were just warm.
The tacos are good. Be prepared for a heavy dose of onions. There was no salsa provided so used Tapatio and Cholula.
The beer selection and drinks are quite good.

Ordered at 6: 53pm, taco meal & cheeseburger meal for takeout. We were told it’d be abt 15 min, took until 7: 32pm, more than 30 min later. The cashier didn’t impress us perhaps bcs she kept having to get up & take orders in between chomping down her burger at the closest table. While waiting I watched the bus boys who clearly look like they hate their jobs, the girl doing pizza with her hair in a ponytail but her bangs falling down all over the place & she took some orders & then went back to handling pizza dough without washing her hands. The place was not particularly busy, no one acted like they gave two hoots that we were standing there waiting. The cashier kept having to remind someone to clear tables. The place was stuffy (I know it’s summer & that you bake pizza in the open fire oven, then invest in an AC!) Overall cleanliness was not great. My taco meal at $11.95, looked thrown together, two tiny tacos on a dry bed of rice with some beans & a dab of cheese, rice had no flavor & chicken taco meat was very dry. My son’s burger was good but not worth the price of 13.95, There was a lot of confusion on who’s orders were sitting there when ready. The only reason I am even giving them one star is bcs they had an interesting door handle on the front door. I would suggest going elsewhere. Wasted $28 here.

Absolutely ridiculous pricing for the quality. My burger was sawdust, had to choke it down. We ate at the park so no chance of bringing it back. Fries under cooked. We got two burgers, two fries and two pizzas with two drinks and it was 100 with tip! Absolutely disgusting, been hear a million times. Gone waayyyy downhill. Over 30 bucks per person for low quality food. So annoyed.

Great pizza and burgers. This is our go to food stop in Murphys. They have a few options for beer. Two TVs playing whatever sports game is on. It's cool to sit upstairs. Love the axe door handle.

Updated: the food quality has declined from its peak, but is still good and one of the best deals in Murphy's which is otherwise mostly high-end restaurants. Service has never been good, however, and the place is neat but no A/C. We love the shrimp tacos and the pizza is good too. Nice but limited selection of beers on tap.

This place is absolutely filthy with horrible service all the staff have the personality of a brick wall. Stay far fR away

A pleasant and fun place to sit. Typical American atmosphere. Order food at the cash register and sit at a table. The waiter serves the food to your table.

Great spot on the main drag for burgers and beers, reasonable prices and great service. We didn’t try the tacos, but the adjacent table had them and they looked delicious, especially the fish tacos…

Firewood is the spot. On a pizza night, we happily pass 4 other pizza places to eat here. Friendly staff, consistency in quality, and great menu options make for one of the best places around.
