FITNESS SF - Castro reviews
18 The app sucks, the staff is hit and miss, but the equipment is truly outstanding. Even when full, there are options and diversity for every part of the body.
The vibe is serious but playful, and overall inspiring to work out out ar this gym.
This gym in castro is pretty huge and has a lot of equipments. However, it's always packed.
One of the only gyms in SF open every holiday. And the staff is great. I rejoin every December. Has day passes for visitors as well.
Don’t try to visit with a free 1-day pass to see if you want to join and get a membership.unless you have a San Francisco photo ID. They wouldn’t accept my San Francisco utilities bills or my apartment lease as proof of residency like all other SF businesses do. The front desk replied with “Nope, just doing my job”.
FOR SAN FRANCISCO RESIDENTS ONLY! I live in the East Bay and spend a fair amount of time in the city. My friend is a member and wanted to work out together. I filled out the online form for a free trial pass and it stated that you must be local. Well, their definition of local means inside the city limits only. I was told the only way I could join my friend was to pay the day rate of $25. The front desk associate basically accused me of trying to steal from SF Fitness and also failed to mention that the gym was closing in 90 minutes for their Christmas Party (this was Saturday, 12/3). I paid for the day rate and the gym was fine for what/where it is. I would've potentially become a paying member to continue going with my friend, but the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth. As a member of another gym chain with locations in the city, I would be happier to invite my friend to join me at one of their locations after the rude treatment from this SF Fitness.
No guest passes for out of town visitors. If you want to purchase it’s $30/day when their monthly rate is $90.
The management stole me money!
I discover one day 1200$ debit on my card for 25 personal lessons I didn’t ask for. Unfortunately one week after the debit I get some medical problem and it keeps me on my bed for fews months and maybe more. I discover the debit during my convalescent and ask for a refund as I am not capable to walk and need to leave San Francisco.
They just answer: ”I can use it when I am back”, but I will never be back in San Francisco and I am stuck in bed for medical reasons. They just tell me: “ We have rules and we never do refund medical reason or not” and of course they never answer why they didn’t ask me before charging my card. They give me the email to the manager and he never answer after 4 months!
This is not respect! This is STEALLING!
Run away from this poor management! Do not leave your credit card number there!
By far the busiest gym I have ever been to in my life. Even at 3PM on a weekday somehow every major machine is occupied. The equipment is nice, but expect to spend extra time waiting for it if you need something in particular.
Misleading sales team, unethical business practices, and unempathetic customer support. Fitness SF hides terms in their contract that they then use in deceitful practices to continue charging customers long after they cancel. They’ve abused my trust and can’t recommend that anyone work with them. LiveFit Gym is an ethical and trustworthy alternative. The sales and management team at Fitness SF Castro was particular unhelpful and unempathetic to my concerns.
Great neighborhood gym with a great equipment selection in a tight space. Equipment is well maintained and continuously updated. Recent renovation converted group exercise space to flexible individual stretching and machines. A COVID adjustment which created a very welcome more focused gym. It has peaks times and low times, so you can pick your scene.
Great gym and NOT overcrowded. Lots of machines available and most importantly clean. Highly recommend if you’re willing to spend a little extra more. I personally hate crowded machines and for once felt focused and motivated here. Worth the $30 day pass. Will definitely consider purchasing a membership here
Fitness SF Castro's best two attributes are location and two level facility that should be serving the needs of its members.
Atmosphere
- > We join a gym to help us get motivated and energetic while we try to reach our health goals. Every time we visit the gym (morning, day or evening) - its like entering a sad mall. The gym plays low music which contributes to the LDE vibe.
- > The staff are unengaged and spend the majority of their time on their phones or computers. They also contribute to the passive atmosphere - no hellos or goodbyes but spend their time looking at sad dogs tied up to tables.
Quality
- > The showers, sauna and bathrooms have rusted nails which is a health hazard.
Value
- > With $100 / mo + memberships, we deserve better from management at Fitness SF Castro. It is time for new management to take control of this gym
Love Fitness SF but this gym way worse than their others in the city. Super crowded, old weights/equipment, locker room not great with uncomfortable open showers, and front desk staff often missing when I come in. IMO worth finding somewhere else to workout or using one of their other locations.
If you are in any kind of pain Peggy W is your girl! I recently developed left wrist pain and have been struggling with increasing my bench press because of it. In just one session Peggy was able to figure out exactly what was going on and fixed the issue, I just did a plank with my arms fully extended and nothing hurt!
So if are someone who’s been in pain for some time and in of a complete body overhaul or an athlete in a need of a minor tweak, look no further!
Won't allow you to check out equipment before paying $30 day pass, even if you are willing to leave ID and backpack at front desk and sign an injury waiver. Staff literally asleep upon arrival. One word answers only.
Do yourself a favor and take your money elsewhere.
The facilities were fine however Fitness SF has extremely unfriendly/anti-consumer cancellation and billing policies intended to extract an extra (hundred) bucks from you when you forget to follow their terms of service.
I don’t recommend giving your business to Fitness SF, but if you choose to, make sure to read their contract.
As a man of a certain vintage this gym keeps me inspired as to how fit one can look even when you remember the middle of the previous century.
This is my favorite gym, despite the relatively small size and the growing number of folks during busy hours. The gym is totally sufficient, and the community vibe is the best in town.
