Fort Point National Historic Site reviews
10Aside from nearly getting hit by a nissan murano, i’d say this was a nice place to explore.the trails nearby are steep, but cool.the view is beautiful and the bay itself is gorgeous from this vantage.little crab all over, not too many tourists, and a lovely ocean spray.
Amazing spot with the best view of the Golden Gate Bridge. This is the photo you want to get. Also it gets pretty windy out here so get a jacket
Fun place to park and relax. Right under the south end of the Golden Gate. You can face the City, watch the fog role in, hold hands and talk. Wonderful!
MUST VISIT HISTORICAL SPOT IN SAN FRANCISCO! It's like stepping back in time to 1860's when cannons were the defense of the bay. 12 foot thick brick walls kept soldiers safe from potential Spanish ships invading. The views are spectacular on a sunny day. The exhibits give great info about the Fort, the artillery and ammunition, the soldiers, the bridge, the lighthouses, the buffalo soldiers (yes like the Bob Marley song), and more. Would be a great place for Lazer tag (rangers might not be on board with this sort of play though), photo shoots, filming location, exercise (climbing 4 flights of spiral staircases), weddings? , etc. I believe that a Shakespeare play was performed here at one time. There's no admitting charge but a donation box is at the entrance, 2 Park Rangers on duty to give info & keep things in line (keep off the walls on the top floor!). This is a must visit spot in my opinion! Parking near Fort wasn't an issue on the day I went. There are no restrooms in the Fort itself but at the entrance of parking there are public restrooms. NOTE: The Fort does NOT have elevators and the spiral staircases can be difficult for some as there are no handrails- but most of the cool stuff is on the ground floor anyways & still worth seeing. The views from top floor are great though.
Great example of military architecture with many objects reminding on its history as one of the last fortresses built in the U. S. Definitely worth a visit, if you are in San Francisco.
Drove here to get NPS annual pass and we were in for a surprise. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge was just amazing. The history or the building was an added bonus and the fact it is free entry was a bonus. But the view wow
If your looking for a peaceful view, this is the spot. The weekends may be packed but M-F you can enjoy the view with less traffic.
Great location to see the Golden Gate Bridge. Easy to find free parking spot. There are a couple restrooms around.
I personally enjoyed this fort for where it was as I enjoyed taking pictures from up there and being under the bridge. Others in my group enjoyed reading about the history. It’s all open with just a park ranger at the entrance. It’s very windy, especially up on the roof!
Perfect spot to get your picture taken with the bridge in the background. Walking is easy here and even wheelchair friendly. Great sights of the bridge and the city skyline!
