Now i know exactly where to stay, not when in Rome, but when in LA =D
Freehand was awesome! Place was clean, 247 lobby person, heart of downtown, very affordable, and it had a cafe, restaurant, weekend party, and rooftop pool and bar! The only thing that sucks is the rootop has really lame high walls, so you cant really soak in the view, but other than that this spot is so cute! And, the housekeeper was really really great! I stayed on the 10th floor, rm 1018, and Mandy Rojas our housekeeper that weekend went above & beyond. She kept our room soo fresh & tidy, speedy & professional service, great quality work, & was so kind. My Freehand experience was amazing, and also lots of nearby restaurants, and public transit that took me right to Santa Monica beach/pier! Thank you Freehand for making my life feel complete! =) =)

There's a $26 a day resort fee but there's nothing resort about this place it's a glorified hostel. The rooms don't have microwaves so if you order food, no one calls upstairs to tell you your food arrived and it just gets cold in the lobby.unacceptable. Stained carpets in the private rooms and random damage.meh. Miami Freehand is waaaaay better than this DTLA nonsense For sure.

I spent the night in a shared hostel-style room and it was a great experience. Everything I needed for a quick night sleep and continued the next day.

The area around the hotel is rather rough. In one day, I witnessed three fights, numerous homeless, and was pestered by panhandlers fairly consistently when I was outside. I guess that's the current state of affairs in LA. Be careful when outside the hotel.

It's the best possible option if you're traveling on a budget and want to sleep at a good location. However shared rooms comes with cons, like someone camping in the bathroom for hours, speaking loudly on the phone while you're trying to sleep, messing with AC, using your stuff etc, but it's obviously not the accomodations fault, just a reminder to consider this before booking a shared room. The pool at the roof is nice, the room was clean, the staff is friendly. Don't forget to bring a padlock with you for the locker in the room.

You have instagram account? You want to use new instagram places? That’s the place for you. 100% recommendations. Everything you need is in your room.

Yes, it’s downtown, yes there a lot of dirt on the streets, but it’s not this hotel work!)

The room service person (level 9) Miss Janet is an awesome lady. She comes in everyday to clean the rooms. Bless her

Yanet Rodriguez cleaned my room and she has been amazing! Everything is so clean and smells so nice. She also kept on asking if I needed anything else. Truly a great and hard worker!

The staff in this place are all AMAZING! Every single employee I encountered was consistently kind, attentive, patient and helpful. Kind of reminded me of Disneyland a few years ago. They must go through some special training. They’re understaffed but these folks work their butts off to give you a wonderful experience. Check in had a long line. But because of the delay they gave us a later checkout. I must single out Ailan, Maria and Kevin for their 5 star attitudes and service. I love the decor of this place. Such an interesting, cozy, vintage-y vibe. We rented a room with 8 bunk beds for my daughter’s birthday party. Great room. I wish it had more seating but the kids had a blast. The rooftop pool has a twenty-something club vibe with everyone taking Instagram selfies constantly, (very photogenic hotel). Loved the DJ. The pool is just 3 ft deep but the kids had a blast! I’m not crazy about the area. It can feel sketchy at night but Dunkin Donuts is across the street and worked well for breakfast. My biggest reason for booking was for the bunk beds and I’m so happy I did.

Location is awesome, rooms are good, service is kinda meh.

The most thing that intrigued me was the fact that this hostel doesn't put any effort at being social. I was there for a week and no party, no event, no venue was there to connect between the guests of the hostel. No opportunity to meet new people within the hotel.

No proper dining. This goes way beyond just sitting and eating which is located in a hidden place in their basement. There are no breakfast, no place to cook, no place to sit down and eat something. They do have a cafe and a bar which belongs to the hostel and of course you cannot eat there unless you ordered from these places.

Bottom line, if you care about socializing and meeting new people this is not the ideal place. I did and was disappointed.

The location is good, near many places. The facilities are also good. There are gym, the lounge and the rooftop. The bed is comfortable enough. However, the air conditioning is automatically turn off at night after a while so sometimes the night becomes too hot.

This is a historic building that was refurbished. I booked a private room. Though small, the mid-century decor made it feel elegantly minimalistic. The room is simple, with a spacious bathroom and shower. The closet was small but I didn't use it. The hotel's location is in the middle of downtown LA, so there's not much to see in a crowded working area, and there are some homeless people who linger and walk around. The valet drivers greet you upon pulling up; they do not have parking on site; they will take your car to another parking garage.

I just stayed here for 3 days for a work trip and don't have much good to say about the Freehand Los Angeles. The room didn't seem particularly clean with there being a lot of dust and debris in corners, in the bed frame and on the furniture, questionable stains on the window seat and pillows, rock hard mattress, non-functioning TV, incredibly thin windows that let in every sound from the busy street, guest services that never pick up the phone, and to top it all off horrible smoke pouring in one morning from a fire down the street. Though a cheap option in DTLA, definitely not a place I'd stay to get a good night's sleep in a comfy bed. I can safely say I'll never stay here again.

While this place is very beautiful and well kept the staff both on the rooftop and front desk are clearly overwhelmed and disinterested in helping.

When my husband ordered a drink they brought/charged us the wrong ones. Additionally there was both a hidden service charge of 18% AND a line for a tip.

The only other issue was the air conditioner in our room was blowing hot air

Aside from this our stay was fine. Their selling point is location and they definitely have a good marketer.

Charged me for the hotel room in full again at the property after my reservation was paid in full aswell as charging another $30 fee. I had to call over 5 times to sort this issue barely recieved an apology and recieved no compensation after charging an extra $150 without telling me.

This is my go to hotel when I am traveling for work. Great location and the service is very nice! We stayed on the 13th floor and got room service from Janet who went above and beyond making sure our room was fresh everyday. Definitely staying here every time I visit

Our flight arrived really early and you can purchase an early check in for $58 and get a room at 12 noon. No table to use in the room. Only a countertop style which does not make it convenient to eat a take out meal for two.
There’s a dive bar across the street, fancy Bottega Louie a block away, Paris Baguette right outside, it’s on a one way street, good pastries at the coffee shop in the lobby.
More like for 21+ crowd. Rooftop pool party fun! You have to ask for tooth brush (and it was a very poor quality one).
I would stay again. Walking distance to lots of places including the crypto arena and convention center.

Good Hotel in Los Angeles, clean rooms, helpful staff. The bar on the terrace with swimming pool is fantastic, especially at night, the view over the city is spectacular
