I visited last weekend with my boyfriend and his parents and oh my gosh. THE best breakfast we had on our trip! Maybe best meal period. The biscuits and gravy and fried grits were insanely delicious, the coffee was good and strong, and the location was convenient. The staff was incredibly friendly. Our server (Jerry or Gerald, I believe) was so so sweet!

Really fast and good service! Didn't take long to be seated and served on a Friday afternoon.

The food was delicious, would really recommend the brisket chili and breakfast burrito. The biscuits were a little hard for my tastes but the gravy was excellent! Potatoes were also well seasoned.

1st time here. Wow! Glad we visited. Definitely coming back. Customer service was awesome! Food was Amaaaaazing! I had the skillet which I didn't take a pic of but I will say it's yumm & so are those potatoes! Omg! The plate that stole the show is the cinnamom roll pancakes! It was NOT heavy. Light, fluffy, frosting was not over done. Chose maple syrup of course && We each had 1 (it was enough) & if I lived close by, I'd order it again! Thanks for the wonderful experience! If we are ever in the area, this is a spot that will forever be on my list.

We’ve been going here for 20 years. We come up every couple months. This time being a anniversary weekend. Last time it wasn’t great but figured it was because of Covid so took a 6 month break today it was worse. Cold somewhat raw eggs honestly should have just sent it back but it always feel awkward. So just skipped breakfast. The English mission wasn’t toasted and tasted stale. The worst eggs Benedict I’ve ever had which is sad because this place used to be our favorite. The service was not great semi on the rude side tbh. Fortunately to our four day weekend this was our first stop and the only bad experience we had. So glad we got it out of the way so to speak. It would have been a bummer to end it on this note

Excellent service, great specialty drinks and fantastic food!
The buttermilk pancakes are enormous! The kids pancake is also a healthy serving. Kids pancake comes with fresh whipped cream on top. Yum! I had the Carmel Omelet and loved it. The kids got hot chocolate and the fresh whipped cream on top was fun for them.

We ate there last weekend. Service was fine.
The food was good. The huevos rancheros seemed more like some type of nachos. Definitely doesn't compare to my husband's top 10.
The skillet was good.
The sandwich was good, the meat was excellent. But the bread didn't taste fresh, and my sister's biscuit was dry. I make homemade biscuits, bread, and sourdough at home. I know fresh, this didn't taste like it was made from scratch the same day. Maybe I had too high of expectations.
The food was good, but could be improved. There is nothing like homemade bread, this didn't taste like that.
Still it is good food. And we even saw a small snake crawling on the patio to add to the interest. I stood guard so nobody stepped on it until it made its way safely to another destination.

First of all a great tip- call ahead and get on the waitlist, we did and were seated immediately when we arrived.

Overall was underwhelmed after the quick seating. Honestly came here for the biscuits and gravy and when I ordered was told they were out of biscuits and would be half an hour.

The biscuits and gravy were flavorful however I felt the gravy to biscuit ratio was off. The chili actually really good but did not really go with anything else. The cinnamon roll French toast was good but really sweet (could have used something to balance it out) and was hard to have a lot of it.

The service was slow and I had to send my daughter to go get a fork for myself. We were seated outside furthers from the entrance so I am not sure if that played a part.

Not sure I understand all the hype.

Really enjoying the atmosphere and service, the food is why I keep going back. Delicious! Have not been disappointed or felt the service was rude and definitely a very clean place to enjoy a nice Sunday breakfast.

Love the beauty of Carmel by the Sea. Always fun andrelaxing be this way. However, there are lots of places to eat that are expensive and sometimes catered to tourists.

From Scratch is a great restaurant with very reasonable prices that can cater both to locals and tourists. Even Guy fieri is a fan! You will not leave this restaurant hungr

Corned Beef Hash- lots of big chunks of corned beef, potatoes and comes with some fried grits. Big cheddar biscuit adds to this me

Huevos Rancheros- big portioned breakfast nachos

Triple d sampler- what you order if you are really hungry!

Cinnamon Roll pancakes-: the best thing ordered here. Not too sweet and 2 huge fluffy pancakes

Great restaurant, can be long waits of 45 minutes or more. I will be back!

Very lovely experience here. We were told it would be a 25 minute wait, but received a message that our table was ready after just 10 minutes. The from scratch skillet was absolutely delicious and a must try from here is the cheese grits. I've never heard of such a thing before but it is literally just cubed grits with cheese that have been battered and fried. The staff was also friendly and attentive despite it being really busy.

Just WOW! Besides the fact that the food is absolutely phenomenal. The staff was amazing! Excellent customer service! Steve and the staff made my birthday breakfast one for the books. Everything was delicious! If I could give 6 stars I would. Hoping to go one more time before we head back down south. Cinnamon roll pancakes were a must!

Good food! Portions are big! A little pricey.

We ate outside, and they had heaters next to the tables, but it was still pretty cold. But we opted for that, since the wait was going to be about 20 minutes for inside. It looked pretty small inside, but inside and outside was full, so it looked like a popular restaurant!

All the ordering is done via scanning the QR code that is on the paper, that is on the table. My husband wasn't a fan of that, but I didn't mind so much, because I don't like touching dirty germ-covered menus.

The waitress seemed a little stressed out, but still friendly. She had to take the orders on a tablet, and it seemed to be giving her trouble.

My red potatoes were seasoned with yummy flavors, with my "create your own" omelette. I eat gluten-free, and the waitress provided corn tortillas with my meal, instead of bread. (They do not have any gluten-free bread products.)

My husband really liked his biscuits and gravy, and the brisket chili. (The waitress told me that it was not gluten-free, so I did not have any.) They we're out of grits, so my husband wasn't able to order them. He opted for fruit, in lieu of the grits.

A side of bacon was seven or eight bucks! But at least it was four big slices of bacon.

My husband's coffee was not very hot, and the second serving made his coffee cold. When I brought it up to the waitress, she apologized, and poured it out on the plants; and a different person brought out a fresh serving, but then it was near-boiling hot.

The corned beef hash is glorious. Huge chunks of crispy-melty salty beef, and they're not stingy with it. The cheddar biscuits are beautifully layered and buttery; perfect for soaking up eggs.

Tables are spaced well enough. My partner and I would've rather sat outside, but the weather was telling us otherwise.

Service was attentive and friendly. Definitely a locals joint. I was glad we got there when we did (around 8) because we had barely ordered our coffee when the morning rush began. (BTW, the coffee isn't very good. The straight espresso tastes like burnt dirt. But like a good addict, I didn't complain and drank it anyways‍️)

I will definitely try it again, because the menu is full of really good brunch and lunch options, as well. They close at 2: 00 pm so go get yourself an omelet and a legit vodka screwdriver early.

Food is great and service is good too! We arrived on Saturday morning at 10 am and was seated within 10 mins. We ordered a skillet, triple d sampler and mocha latte. I highly recommend the triple d sampler! Delicious and great value with biscuit, patties, gravy, two eggs, chili and side of fruit. The gravy with biscuit and patties were awesome! The chili with brisket was so yummy.

I appreciate the attentive and friendly service.

I will come back to try the pancakes!

Ordered a Cobb Salad. The blue cheese dressing was delicious, as were the blue cheese crumbles, bacon, romaine fresh, nice hard boiled egg. Unfortunately the chicken was dry and disappointing. Hope the chef rethinks preparation to strive for moist and flavorful chicken for this salad. Service was fabulous.

Wonderful restaurant! The French toast and biscuits with gravy are phenomenal. You can tell the chefs take pride in their cooking. The wife felt luke warm about the cappacinno, but she typically drinks sugary coffee drinks. I drink black coffee and was satisfied with the cappacinno; it presented well with the foam, too.

Breakfast at From Scratch was the best meal I had my entire two week vacation.

Go hungry! You will want to order everything on the menu, they are usually crowded on the weekends so be prepared to wait if you have a large group. Their service is fast, yet they maintain the quality of the food. Great place for brunch!

Good value and good quality food, based on having lunch here in November 2021 on a road trip down the California coast. Lunch dishes are a little bit on the high side ($13-15 for sandwiches) but it is done very well and the portions are large, and it's a high cost area. Staff are very friendly and courteous, and we left very satisfied. Club sandwich and beef brisket BBQ sandwich were tasty.

Hidden in a quaint, beautiful nook of natural beauty.wow. Not only was the food excellent, but the atmosphere is perfect for anyone wanting to find that perfect moment of peace. Found this on Guy's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, but this is none of those. It's a moment in Heaven. Even after you finish eating, you could sit enjoying the environment for hours.

Traditional American breakfast, great size of food (two people can share a plate actually), very tasty options, good service. We had a lovely time there, but would be better if the restaurant creates gluten free options for clients, although they offer potato and tortilla as a replacement.
