Fugetsu-Do Bakery Shop reviews
16Best mochi we’ve had in Los Angeles. We got the pink peanut butter mochi. Kids were going crazy over them!
Fugetsudl-do has been my go-to place for authentic Japanese confections all my life. Last week I patiently waited in line hoping to score komochi (small, round rice cakes) for Japanese New Year Ozoni a type of soup with komochí as one of its ingredient's. Success! They still had a few packages left. Also picked up a few manju (confections) for dessert. Heaven. It was almost like being there years ago with my parents and grandparents. I will be back early March for Girl's Day mochi! Another special treat. This year I'll call ahead to order.
The counter staff are very helpful and friendly. The store is clean and welcoming. Although it is small there's a lot to explore! The only problem is parking. It's either metered street parking or a parking lot. Both may be crowded depending on time and season.
"Bakery" is kind of a misnomer. Yes, there are some baked treats, but not like a chocolate chip cookie or carrot cake. Many are made from a special type of rice, not the l kind in a Pilaf. Some confections have sweet fillings made from red beans or Lima beans. Really good stuff and an integral part of Little Tokyo history and therefore Los Angeles history.
Loved the delicious, beautiful, creative mochi. The people working there were so nice, the price was reasonable, and everything was delicious!
It appears that a couple of their mochi have a pastry covering that may be made of wheat, so I did not order those since I have celiac disease. There were still a ton of gluten free ones to choose from, and they were all amazing and I felt good after eating them (no allergic reaction:)
Fugetsu-Do is known for their mochi and other Japanese treats. The line moves very quickly and the staff is patient and kind about answering questions (which we had a lot of since the mochi flavors weren’t labeled)
The mochi itself was so soft/chewy/pillowy but all of the ones we tried were very sweet. My favorite is probably the strawberry anko (white bean + strawberry w/ hazelnut chocolate ganache on top) or the one with kinako powder on it. Also very colorful and make for cute pics:)
Overall, definitely worth a try if you’re in the area!
Fantastic mochi, bought a bunch for gifts and friends loved it. There's a reason it's been around for so long, I would say it's worth the wait. I after trying a bunch - go with the classics, the other variations have too much going on
Sooo soft and delicious! The most authentic traditional style mochi that I've tasted! It's a cozy bakery shop located in Little Tokyo and my favourite is Kiku! Best to eat it on the day of for its freshness and taste. Sadly they were sold out of the strawberry daifuku so i'll be coming back next time to try it!
If you are in little Tokyo, you have to visit here! They are very friendly and make insanely delicious deserts. The prices are very reasonable and justify the delicious food. Can't wait to go back and try more desserts.
So glad I came here during my first visit to LA. So many varieties of fresh mochi. I hope this store will still be here in my future visits!
Great mochi! There’s so many options I had to get 1 of each mochi flavor! Mochi is so soft and chewy, I only wish my stomach can fit more! Too bad I’m only visiting and can’t bring these home. Will definitely try to come back when I visit again.
Best Mochi Around!
I always make sure to come and stick up when I’m in town because I can’t get enough of this stuff!
Iconic and tasty mochi. We got an assorted pack along with fresh strawberry mochi's.
Masks still required for entry so come prepared.
One of my good friends surprised me with a little mochi gift box from this shop! I was so excited to try them & couldn't believe it she went!
the mochi was so soft and delicious.not overtly sweet (like most Asian snacks) & it was delicious! Definitely held up well in during the transport!
Terrible place and staff. We came inside to shop and wore our masks. After purchasing our items we waited inside for our Uber to arrive and briefly took a mask off to use Apple Pay. The moment we took it off, the staff rudely told us to put it back on, ALL while the owner was walking around without her mask. FURTHERMORE, they told us we couldn’t wait inside for our Uber, and had to wait outside in the 104 degree weather. The double standard and entitlement of this location is repulsive. Avoid at all costs.
The best mochi I have ever had. And I’ve had quit a bit.
Fresh strawberry is my favourite.
Would double check what they pack in your box if you are picking your own. Didn’t notice until I got home: (
But they were yummy none the less.
This little bakery has delicious mochi and fast service. We sampled multiple flavors and still wished we had gotten more.
