George's at the Cove, La Jolla CA

I have eaten at George’s many times on my trips to SD but am deeply troubled about my treatment on my last visit. I had a very short vacation and drove up from Coronado to La Jolla to eat and watch the sunset at George’s. When I arrived I was told there were no tables. I looked confused at all the empty tables by the glass - there were more empty than were seated. I politely asked if there were so many open tables why he was not seating. The rude host told me that those tables had reservations in over an hour and they were holding those tables for other people. I said I’m happy to just get a drink and appetizer and leave before those reservations I’m really just here on a very short trip to watch the sunset and enjoy a drink and food. He snapped at me that that was entree seating only. I said ok I had planned to eat ENTREE & apps (plus drinks) anyway and he said that I could sit at the bar. Disappointed I asked him if I could be put on a waitlist. He really didn’t want to do that and made it obvious but he did. I went and sat at the bar - the only one in an almost empty restaurant. The bartender could tell I was troubled and asked if I was ok. I told him that I was trying to get a table and I didn’t understand why I couldn’t be seated when more tables were empty than taken and there was plenty of staff working that area. He went and talked to the host and apologized. He said he’s young and i don’t understand it either. He said that when a table left he would clean it himself and seat me. I sat there for over an hour and watched the sunset little by little through the bar with tears in my eyes. Once it was dark I left the restaurant as there was no use waiting any longer for a sunset dinner seat. None of those tables ever showed up and those tables sat empty. I got a text about 20 minutes later a table was ready which means more reservations didn’t show up. Not only did this restaurant lose money holding tables open during a peak time but they lost a long term customer. I was deeply hurt and disappointed by this young man’s heartlessness and carelessness. He was not kind and he should not be the first experience. If it weren’t for the view there would be no reason to go here. I cried over this and wasted an entire night of my short vacation on this experience which I’ll never get back. If you’ve read this long I recommend walking next door to Eddie V’s or La Valencia where they are kind, welcoming and happy to help you view the sunsets over great drinks and food. Kindness matters and this place doesn’t care about people or their feelings. Shame. The host here should be fired, not only does he not understand or care that restaurants should be turning over tables to make money but he doesn’t understand that he’s a representation of this business and not a good one.

We ate at the rooftop of George's Restaurant it was absolutely spectacular as we watched the sunset the food was out of this world and the waiter was awesome I will definitely be back to this restaurant

Best meal and view I have ever had. Ordered almost every item on their menu and tried things out of my comfort zone and enjoyed them because it was all so well done. Had great cocktails and excellent customer service. Looking forward to visiting on our next trip back to the area.

Delicious meal and excellent views! A bit difficult to find parking. But you get great views of the La Jolla Beach and the seals/sea lions. Super cute place. Recommend coming down here for the sunset views - and reserve the outdoor terrace!

We went to this place for dinner without reservation and got a table after 10min. The food was so delicious and this place was so nice. Definitely go back here whenever having any plan to La Jolla Cove

Most beautiful place to eat in La Jolla. But on top of the views, the food is absolutely perfect. The owners and servers take such good care of presenting the dining room and ensuring the cleanliness, elegance, and comfort. The servers are completely knowledgeable about the food, drinks, and wine. The food is presented in a magnificent manner and hot. We had the salmon tartar and the fish tacos. I had the most delicious hibiscus margarita. Simply perfect. This restaurant could accommodate large groups or small. Really wish we lived closer.

Overall a very positive experience on the Ocean Terrace.definitely dress appropriately because once the sun sets, it is chilly. The waitress brought us blankets.

There are things I like about George's but it's not really my top choice in La Jolla. First off the view on the ocean terrace is great, but then again, the view is great at every place along the Cove. I also heard level 2 had happy hour but their happy hour menu is pretty lackluster so skip that. I did really enjoy the mussels but the rest of the menu didn't really entice me so we ended up going to a different place after a few drinks and appetizer. I dont mind paying for quality but I do think their prices (aka $16 for chips and guacamole) are pretty steep especially when there are better options around.

What takes away from the nice-place experience and the o.k. Food is the lack of fine-details! No decor, naked tables, cheap glasses, random music, etc.without the oceanfront and the reputation this place feels more like a loud Vegas m-m-maschine without soul

The view is gorgeous. The staff (especially the hostess) was incredibly rude and the food is mediocre.

Atmosphere is such a great experience especially during dinner with the sunset. Food is very California in a positive way. Fresh flavors and plenty of great choices. Would highly recommend.

Loved seeing the ocean and beautiful sunsets from George's. Had drinks at the rooftop bar and had dinner with a large group. The selection of food allowed everyone to eat what they wanted. A must go to when in La Jolla.

We were 6 women in town for a 50th birthday celebration. The view was unbelievable, the food was delicious, and our server was great. Our only issue was managing our reservation. We called to reserve the "VIP seating option" where you pay in advance for a table along the ocean wall, but the staff to whom we spoke 3 different times declined to take payment. When we arrived for our reservation, they had a VIP table along the glass wall available, but then nearly gave it away to another birthday party. Since they offer the VIP option, they should prep their staff to manage it. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We went for restaurant week and their seafood was unbelievably fresh and delicious! The view from the top of the beach is stunning
