Gene has an incredibly deep knowledge in the art of Thai Chi Chuan, and his ability to teach that to others is just unparalleled. He helped me uncover certain "unhealthy" patterns in my natural bodily movements. I can't wait to continue private lessons! - the view is gorgeous ;)

My husband and I have been taking private joint lessons from Gene for a few months. We have fallen in love with the practice and it has been really great to learn together as a couple from Gene. Tai Chi has helped me access better energy and balance than I have been able to find from any other source. Gene's depth of mastery is on a level that few people ever achieve in their chosen discipline. I know I will be able to practice for decades and never stop learning or progressing which I look forward to greatly. Even as novice as novice can be, the immediate benefits are epic. I only wish I had found Tai Chi earlier.

I like how he explains things in detail. I especially like how he connects the movements to a martial art application.

Have been searching my entire life for something as meaningful and helpful as Tai Chi, and Gene has been masterful in his teaching process: patient, kind, helpful.
I did not have the slightest grasp on just how deep and profound the martial art aspect of this would be to my personal growth, but it has filled me with a deep respect for the form and I eagerly look forward to learning from Gene every week in our class; would not have been able to start this journey without his guidance.

I highly recommend Gene Golden's Beginner T'ai Chi Ch'uan class. Mr. Golden has a gift for taking a concept as mysterious as 'chi', and explaining it in a fun and down-to-earth way that's easy to feel and understand. In the class, Gene takes you through the Yang Style T'ai Chi form step by step, explaining (and more importantly, demonstrating) the martial applications along the way. With his in-depth knowledge of body mechanics, Gene emphasizes proper body structure as the basis for generating a relaxed yet powerful system of self defense. The material and principles taught in the beginner class are lightyears beyond what I learned in the US Military, and I am pleased to now have a system of health and self defense that I can use the rest of my life.

I’ve been taking Gene’s T’ai Chi Ch’uan introductory class for 3 months. I wasn’t sure of what I was getting into on the first night, but at the end of that evening I told Gene that the class was exactly what I had been hoping for. The class strikes the perfect balance between health and martial arts, movement and dialogue, humor and determination.

Gene is an amiable, entertaining, thoughtful, respectful, knowledgeable, and patient teacher. He is a master of the art, has a passion for opening up the world of T’ai Chi Ch’uan to others, and engages his students in what will undoubtedly become a lifelong process of learning.

The introductory course is all about learning the form. Gene teaches by demonstrating and describing the form repeatedly using broad and fine strokes, observing and correcting our movements, and telling interesting, often funny, and sometimes amazing anecdotes related to the movements. Each evening we practice what we’ve learned up to that point, Gene corrects our missteps, and then we learn the next set of moves. He has really dialed the appropriate pace at which our bodies can take in the new moves without being overwhelmed.

Gene encourages us to practice our form throughout the week, and in reality that is the only way to learn it. I am always excited to return and discover the next set of movements. I couldn’t be happier with the class and am looking forward to Push Hands after learning the form. Thanks Gene for bringing your Golden School of T’ai Chi Ch’uan to Bellingham!

I have been doing solo tai chi practice for a long time and I know it is essential to have direct experience with a teacher. I have done 8 classes with Gene in the Yang tai chi short form. I am amazed by the progress of the other 2 students who had no tai chi background at all before we started weekly class. You can get valuable tai chi training form Gene Golden no matter your skill level or background. If you want to learn tai chi he has weekly group classes, that is a great place to start. Just pay for one month at a time, it's very easy. Better than just a teacher he is a guide. It nice to be part of a group again. I feel like the other students and our guide are fellow travelers on the way. If you are in need of a tai chi teacher this is not an opportunity you want to miss for authentic tai chi experience.

Gene is an exceptional teacher, with an approach to Tai Chi very unlike my previous experiences: he makes it totally applicable as a martial art, rather than simply an energy warmup/dance form. Patient yet exacting, and truly passionate about the practice—I'm really grateful that he's shown up in our corner of the world!

I was completely unacquainted with the art of Tai Chi but developed an interest quickly after meeting Gene. Listening to him passionately talk about his journey doing Tai Chi motivated me to try it out! I have only had one session with him so far, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt like he really seems to love what he does! Gene is also incredibly friendly and nice, and he does a great job of helping you understand the principles and concepts he introduces. I’m excited to return:)
