Grater Grilled Cheese, San Diego CA

Everyone was super kind and patient while I looked over the menu. I enjoyed my meal and you can tell it was prepared with care. This simple shop boasts a large variety of things to choose from. Stop by for something simple, yet delicious.

On 4-25 I pre-ordered a sandwich for lunch. I walk 12 minutes from work and 12 back plus a quick pick up gives a short time to eat.
However for one reason or another my sandwich was cancelled before I even got there. Then they took payment from my cashap card but claimed it didnt go thru. When in actuality they ran the charge 2x. It denied the 2nd charge. So I paid with my debit, 32.00 for one Lobster grilled cheese.
Today is the 3rd of May, with proof in hand I spent yet another hour trying to eat, denied the food Ive already been charged for but more than that, treated as if Im lying somehow. Like its my fault they did their job wrong and as if I was inconviencing them. Poor customer service. Beyond poor, rude, insulting, and frankly not worth the money I work hard for.

I was on our evening walk with my wife and 14 month old baby when we walked by this place. It looked good so we decided to try it out. It was around 7pm And I guess too late for decent service cause walking in I got a few hostile looks from the girls in the kitchen.anyway we ordered some food and took a seat while food was being prepared. I wanted to wash my hands before the food comes out and I was told in a very rude manner that the bathroom is closed. I asked if it’s a technical issue and the girl responded that it was already cleaned for the day and I cannot use it. I asked if I can wash my hands at another sink that was in the main hall and I was told I cannot use that sink either. The girl behind the counter in a very condescending tone told me to go two doors down to the pizza place and wash my hands there. At this point this just was too much, I couldn’t believe this kind of service exist. I didn’t want to dine or spend another minute in this place (questionable how the food would be prepped with those kind of characters there). I told the girl at the register that I’m not going to dine there and would like to get my money back. At this point food wasn’t prepared yet. She did something on the computer and told me I’d see the refund in my account within 3 business days. 6days later I still didn’t have my refund, so I went back to ask for it. Spoke to a different person, who introduced himself as the manager which I have really hard time believing. He took my number and told me he’ll look into it and call me back. This was a week ago, no call no money back. It’s been 2 weeks, still don’t have my money back. Are they just stealing my money?

Food was tasty, service was good. However, I was disappointed with the atmosphere. The drink dispenser was filthy, heavy dust in the filter and not wiped down.

Update: I received a note from the owner asking me to call and apologized for my experience. I called and left a VM about 2 weeks ago and no return call.

Have been passing this place coming down Friars road for the longest and finally pulled the trigger and came on Mother’s Day. Made my own grilled cheese with Mac n cheese and fried chicken. It was super cheesy and chicken was crispy. Sourdough bread had a great crunch and was grilled perfectly. My only complaint was that there wasn’t much seasoning or flavor. Even my daughter, who had a regular grilled cheese, said the same thing. It just felt one note. The fries were really good, though. Overall, cute place and didn’t have a long wait despite it being lunch on a Sunday.

Yummy comfort food. The Mac and cheese was my favorite. The sandwich is a Philly grilled cheese, doesn't really taste like a Philly cheese steak sandwich. But it was still good. I also tried the sweet potato fries. They were delicious. They also serve loaded fries and different mac and cheese, burgers, and salads.

Got the avocado grilled cheese and the avocado was brown and the cheese was not melted. Probably the worst food I’ve had in the city unfortunately.

I drove all the way down there and the girl that works there said that they are closed even though they post their hours as being open till 8 pm, I got there at 7: 40 pm. That was a waste of time and money driving there.

It was a very disappointing experience for my family. We got pesto chicken sandwich and orginal grilled cheese with franch fries. We waited a long time for the food and the restaurant was not even busy. The food came and it was so greasy with no flavor. The portion of the fries for that price is a joke and they were awful. We will never go back again and definitely not recommend it to anyone.

I ordered the carnivore grilled cheese. Bread was dry and hard, really tough to eat. The service was pretty slow, despite the fact that the store was empty. The staff were all eating food at their Work stations behind the counter so maybe I was interrupting their 2 p m lunch hour. Very disappointing overall.a sourdough Jack would have been more edible and half the price.

Best grilled cheese sandwiches! The Basic was way more than it's name and the Carnivore with a hamburger patty and caramelized onions was so delicious. Also had their mac and cheese and truffle parmesan fries with aoli sauce and those were great on yheir own too. Definitely going back!

Needs more of a selection of both main dishes and sides. The lobster sandwich is my go-to.

The Grater Grilled Cheese only has one location in central San Diego, so I had to try it and see if the hype was worth it. I ordered the Fiery Torta Grilled Cheese and my friend ordered the Avocado Grilled Cheese sandwich. They were both really good! The bread was toasted to perfection with the right amount of butter. The ingredients were fresh, and of course there was plenty of cheese. The crunch you get when you bite into these sandwiches is exactly what you want when you think of a great grilled cheese sandwich. The staff here was friendly and efficient. This location is clean and run really well. I will definitely be back. Eat up!
